  • Publication number: 20060034569
Abstract: The invention provides novel “folded” Mach-Zehnder interferometers (“folded” MZI's), methods for making folded MZI's, and systems and devices incorporating them. The novel folded MZI's are elaborated from conventional MZI structures by cutting across the interferometer arms of a conventional MZI structure and creating reflectors on the exposed ends of the interferometer arms to form two “folded” MZI's from a single conventional Mach-Zehnder interferometer structure. The novel folded MZI's show promise as sensors having a reduced size and enhanced sensitivity relative to sensors incorporating conventional Mach-Zehnder Interferometers.

  • Patent number: 6978672
Abstract: Earth formations are characterized by using an array of electrodes which can measure streaming potentials in the formation, and by interpreting the data obtained by the electrodes. The electrodes are placed on a wireline tool, a LWD tool, or in a fixed manner about a completed wellbore. The measured streaming potentials are generated by drilling with an overbearing pressure, slitting the mudcake in a borehole, acid injection, or any of various other manners which causes fluid movement. The data obtained is interpreted to locate fractures, measure formation permeability, estimate formation pressure, monitor drilling fluid loss, detect abnormal pressure, etc. Particularly, a streaming potential voltage transient having a double peak profile signifies the presence of a formation fracture.

  • Patent number: 6973479
Abstract: A method and system are provided for updating software configurations of line-replaceable unit (LRU) computers in a restricted architecture network such as an in-flight entertainment system (IFES). Operating in an efficient and parallel manner, each of the LRUs independently creates an individual configuration file that identifies current software components. Each of the LRUs transmits its respective configuration file to a configuration server either automatically upon startup or manually upon request. The configuration server updates a system configuration data file with the current configuration files received from the individual LRUs. In a downloading method, a download server sends a list of desired software components to the LRUs. Each of the LRUs independently and simultaneously transfer (download) the needed software from the download server. The LRU independently requests the download server to download the needed software components.

  • Publication number: 20050257722
Abstract: This invention relates to a furnace device for eliminating volatile organic compounds in exhaust gas. The furnace device has a hollow body (10) with a gas inlet (13) and a gas outlet (11), a positioning device (20) mounted inside the body (10) and an arc generator (30) attached to the positioning device (20). The arc generator (30) has multiple cylindrical chambers (31) for accommodating the exhaust gas and multiple central rods (32) respectively penetrating through the multiple cylindrical chambers (31). In each chamber (31), an inner periphery of the chamber (31) serves as an electrode, and the central rod (32) serves as another electrode. When an effective potential difference is applied to the electrodes, arcs are generated between the inner periphery of the chamber (31) and the central rod (32) inside the chamber (31). Thereby, volatile organic compounds in the exhaust gas are burned and decomposed effectively and completely by the generated arcs.
