  • Patent number: 5588081
Abstract: A light coupling device for coupling a light source to an optical fiber. The device includes a first cylindrical sleeve carrying a GRIN lens and a ferrule. The ferrule receives the optical fiber. Movability of the ferrule along the optical axis of a first through-hole in the first sleeve allows a determination of a focal length between the GRIN lens and an incident end face of the optical fiber. A first setting means sets a relative position of the ferrule with respect to the first sleeve for holding the two in position with respect to one another when the GRIN lens and the incident end face of the optical fiber are separated by a distance equal to the focal length therebetween. The device further includes a second cylindrical sleeve. The first sleeve is coaxially disposed within a second through-hole of the second sleeve, and a light source unit is concentrically disposed within the second through-hole.

  • Patent number: 5530781
Abstract: An optical fiber light coupling interface effective for feeding and propagating light power dispersed from a light source, and a method of forming the interface. The interface includes an optical fiber having an optical axis, a core, and a clad surrounding the core, the core and the clad having respective radii. The optical fiber further includes an enlarged input end face where the respective radii of the core and the clad assume respective first values, the respective radii of the core and the clad decreasing in a direction away from the input end face along the optical fiber to respective second values at a first transitional region of the optical fiber, the respective second values being less than the respective first values. The input end face is formed by applying a compressive stress to the optical fiber for enlarging the respective radii of the core and the clad at a part of the optical fiber while fusing that part by heating.

  • Patent number: 5387816
Abstract: A pedestal 11 is attached to a circuit substrate 1 having a component placement area 4 when clamping portions 12 and 12 of the pedestal 11 clamp both side portions 5 and 5 of the component placement area 4. It is possible to stand the hybrid integrated circuit device on a parent circuit substrate a by itself before the hybrid integrated circuit device is soldered to the parent circuit substrate a. Since the bottom surfaces of the clamping portions 12 and 12 are flat. The circuit substrates 1, 1, . . . do not overlap one another when the hybrid integrated circuit devices are accommodated in and arranged vertically in a stick since the thickness of the clamping portions 12 and 12 of the pedestal 11 is thicker than the circuit substrate 1. Accordingly, the hybrid integrated circuit device is liable to vertically stand on the parent circuit substrate a by itself and it is easily accommodated in and taken out from the stick.
