  • Patent number: 10358916
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling movement of a laterally translating component includes a first fixed housing in a fixed position with respect to a central axis and a second housing that moves linearly along the central axis. The first fixed housing and the second housing define a first and second fluid chambers interconnected by a fluid channel. The second housing moves linearly between a first position along the central axis to define a first size for the first and second fluid chambers and a second position along the central axis to define a second size for the first and second fluid chambers to control flow of the fluid through the channel. The first size is larger than the second size. The second position of the second housing limits lateral movement of the second housing more than the first position of the second housing limits the lateral movement of the second housing.

  • Patent number: 10206417
Abstract: The guava seed (Psidium guajava) nanoparticles as an antibacterial agent are prepared from guava seeds that have been washed, dried, and ground to powder of less than 1 mm diameter. The powder is reduced to nanoparticle size (less than 100 nm diameter) by adding the powder to a solution of concentrated hydrochloric acid (38% w/w) and stirring the mixture at 3000 rpm at room temperature. The resulting nanoparticles are filtered through a Millipore membrane filter and dried. Agar well diffusion studies showed significant antibacterial activity against various Gram positive and negative species commonly implicated in food contamination. Further testing showed the guava seed nanoparticles have significant antioxidant and radical scavenging content, suggesting that guava seed nanoparticles may serve as an antibacterial agent.
