  • Publication number: 20120089833
Abstract: An invention is described for securely deploying a provable identity for virtual machines (VMs) in a dynamic environment. In an embodiment, a fabric controller instructs a VM host to create a VM and sends that VM a secret. The fabric controller sends that same secret (or a second secret, such as the private key of a public/private key pair) to the security token service along with an instruction to make an account for the VM. The VM presents proof that it possesses the secret to the security token service and in return receives a full token. When a client connects to the deployment, it receives the public key from the security token service, which it trusts, and the full token from the VM. It validates the full token with the public key to determine that the VM has the identity that it purports to have.

  • Patent number: 8153713
Abstract: A core-shell particle is formed by a method that includes forming a crosslinked polyorganosiloxane core, reacting a graftlinking agent with the crosslinked polyorganosiloxane core, and polymerizing a poly(alkenyl aromatic) shell around the graftlinking agent-functionalized polyorganosiloxane core. The method produces a core-shell particle with improved adhesion between shell and core. The core-shell particle is useful as an impact modifier in thermoplastic compositions.

  • Patent number: 8149332
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for processing signals in a television system using a subset of receive operations for detecting digital and analog television signals are provided. The system and method may be deployed in, for example, cable TV set-top boxes, cable TV modems, and television receivers, which may be coupled to a cable TV or over-the-air terrestrial network. Performing only a subset of receiver operations may allow detection of the type of signal; for example digital QAM, digital VSB, or analog; present in a television channel. In this regard, it is not necessary to generate and validate a bit stream in order to detect if a signal is present and/or the type of signal present.

Abstract: A system, apparatus and method for dynamic intra node rerouting is described. In one embodiment of the invention, a multi-stage architecture within a network node is provided in which various module cards, including intermediary module cards, are interconnected within a chassis. A connection is established between a first module card and a second module card through an intermediate module card so that traffic may flow internally within the chassis. Failure detection and intra-node recovery are provided within the node by provisioning an intra-node compensated route around a failed module.

  • Patent number: 8131785
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including encoded computer programs, for using free space set aside in hierarchical data documents, such as multimedia documents containing video and audio data. In one aspect, a method includes obtaining new data to be added to a document having a hierarchical structure, where the document includes stored data and free spaces at different nodes; determining whether a first node in the structure includes a first free space of a size sufficient for the new data; using the first free space in the first node to add the new data to the document when the size is sufficient; and when the size is insufficient: identifying a second node including a second free space in the structure, moving some of the second free space to the first free space, and using the increased first free space in the first node to add the new data to the document.

  • Publication number: 20120046959
Abstract: A computer system determines a model for a solicited offering based on selected variables that characterize a target population. A data set may be generated with a subset of variables from a set of variables. The set of variables may be representative of variables of data of customers associated with an entity, and the subset of variables may include at least 450 variables. A macro for determining a plurality of statistical characteristics about the subset of variables in the data set may be accessed, the plurality of statistical characteristics about the subset of variables in the data set may be determined based upon a number of observances of each respective variable of the subset of variables. A report of the determined plurality of statistical characteristics may be generated and outputted to a user device.

  • Publication number: 20120020246
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide systems, devices and methods for improving the efficient deployment and configuration of networking equipment within a network build-out. In certain embodiments of the invention, an iterative analysis of inter-node equipment placement and connectivity, and inter- and intra-node traffic flow is performed to identify a preferred deployment solution. This analysis of deployment optimization takes into account both configurations from a network node perspective as well as from a network system perspective. Deployment solutions are iteratively progressed and analyzed to determine a preferred solution based on both the cost of deployment and satisfaction of the network demands. In various embodiments of the invention, a baseline marker is generated from which the accuracy of the solution may be approximated that suggests to an engineer whether the deployment is approaching an optimal solution.

  • Publication number: 20120016768
Abstract: An interactive system personalizes pages of an electronic catalog with information reflective of related orders placed by the user. In one embodiment, when a user requests a category page (such as a browse node page, author page, or artist page) of an electronic catalog, the system determines whether the user previously ordered any items falling within the associated category. If any such orders are identified, information regarding the prior order(s) is incorporated into the requested category page. This information may include, for example, an indication of the particular item(s) ordered, and the order date and/or status of each such order. The system may also personalize item detail pages with information regarding any orders placed for the corresponding items and/or similar items.
