  • Patent number: 6983857
Abstract: A venting cap liner used in a pressurized container closure arrangement. The cap liner includes a multi-layer sandwich structure having a first layer and a generally flat resilient intermediate layer. The layers include at least one perforation extending through the layers to enable gas flow therethrough. The first layer has a first surface including at least one channel extending from one edge of the first layer to another edge of the first layer. The intermediate layer is responsive to a gas pressure level in the container such that, at a first selected pressure level, the perforation extending through said second layer opens to allow gas to flow through the perforation and at a second selected pressure level, the intermediate layer expands to close the perforation thereby resisting gas flow.

  • Publication number: 20050247488
Abstract: An expandable gripper assembly may be configured for anchoring a tool in a passage. The expandable gripper assembly includes first, second, and third pivotally connected links that are coupled to a tool. The third link is adapted to engage an inner wall in the passage. An actuation mechanism causes the third link to move radially outward from the tool for engagement with the inner wall. The actuation mechanism may comprise a roller mechanism that pushes on an inner surface of the first link for causing the first link to pivot outward away from the body. As the first and second links pivot outward, the third link moves in a radial direction for engagement with an inner wall.

  • Patent number: 6908001
Abstract: A container and closure assembly whereby a pull tab sufficiently narrow in width is secured to the interior of the closure, thereby preventing the closure from becoming loosened or displaced, yet when sufficient torque is applied by the consumer to open the closure and remove it from the container the narrow pull tab is disengaged from its seal to the interior of the closure, yet having the liner over the mouth of the closure remains intact and undamaged, thus preventing any contamination of the container content.

  • Patent number: 6475754
Abstract: In one aspect, the subject invention concerns the cloning and characterization of a previously unidentified gene, provisionally named fim N, encoding a fimbrial protein that is putatively involved in the attachment of B. bronchiseptica to respiratory epithelium. This gene has been subcloned into a bacterial expression vector, and the recombinant protein has been isolated and partially characterized.

  • Patent number: 6047840
Abstract: A molded, back-off resistant closure for use with an associated container having a neck portion and at least one outwardly projecting ratchet formation includes a generally circular top wall portion and a skirt portion depending from the top wall portion. The skirt includes an inner wall and an outer wall and defines a lower wall portion. The skirt terminates in an edge and includes a thread formation formed in the inner wall for matingly engaging the neck portion of the container. The closure includes a plurality of lugs recessed from the edge and extending radially inwardly from the lower wall and longitudinally along the lower wall portion a distance so as to not touch the edge. The lugs extend outwardly and downwardly such that at least one of the lugs can engage the at least one outwardly projecting ratchet formation on the container neck portion when the container and closure are engaged with one another.

  • Patent number: 5927530
Abstract: A liner for use with a threaded closure cap is formed of a relatively thin, flexible material having a central portion configured for placement in the cap abutting a top wall thereof. The liner has at least one tab extending therefrom. The tab has a leading edge portion that is formed so as to define an angle relative to a tangent line adjacent to a juncture of the tab and the central portion. The angle of the tab is configured to be the same as the angle of the threads in the closure cap so that the tab rests fully against the threads prior to application of the closure to an associated container.

  • Patent number: 5806699
Abstract: A venting closure for use with an associated container includes a closure cap having a circular top wall portion and a depending annular skirt portion. The closure is used with a pressurized container having a threaded neck portion defining a land surface at the top thereof. The closure includes a liner therein adjacent and in spaced relation to the top wall, which liner is positioned between the top wall portion and the land surface and defines a pressure release region with the top wall portion. The top wall portion includes an outwardly extending annular bead-like protecting element having a depending inner wall and a contiguous outer wall. The inner wall is oriented generally transverse to a top wall plane. A flexible portion having a piercing element extending inwardly therefrom toward the liner is positioned centrally of the annular protecting bead and is movable so that piercing element contacts and fractures the liner to release pressure from the container.

  • Patent number: 5720401
Abstract: An inner seal for sealing containers by heat induction, especially when the inner seal may be in contact with the contents of the container during sealing. The inner seal includes a metallic foil layer which heats up almost instantaneously, and a foam layer which thermally insulates the foil layer from the contents of the container which may be in contact with the inner seal. The foam layer is compressed, and is consequently a poorer thermal insulator, where it contacts the land area of the neck of the container to which it is being sealed.
