  • Publication number: 20040214980
Abstract: A UV-curable composition is disclosed. The composition comprises a crosslinking agent, a hydroxyalkyl acrylate or methacrylate, and an acrylic polyol. The crosslinking agent is selected from the group consisting of multifunctional isocyanates, melamines, and silanes. The acrylic polyol comprises recurring units of an allylic alcohol. The composition can be irradiated to be solidified and then fully cured by the urethane, melamine, or silane reactions. Alternatively, the composition can be cured by the urethane, melamine, or silane reactions, and then fully cured by radiation. The invention provides low VOC but high performance coatings. More importantly, the invention provides a UV-curable system without the need for acrylated oligomers.

  • Publication number: 20040118189
Abstract: Microfluidic analytical devices and systems have at least one porous element disposed downstream of one or more optical detection regions in a pressure-based separation system. A porous element elevates the backpressure within an optical detection region, thus suppressing bubble formation and enhancing optical detection. Various types of porous elements include porous membranes, packed particulate material, and polymerized monoliths. Preferred devices may be fabricated with substantially planar device layers, including stencil layers, that are directly bonded without adhesives to form a substantially sealed microstructure suitable for performing pressure-based chromatographic separations at elevated operating pressures and with organic solvents.

  • Patent number: 6682329
Abstract: A cooling passage is formed through the wrap of a non-orbiting scroll. The cooling passage communicates with suction pressure refrigerant and passes the suction pressure refrigerant through both the base and the wrap of the non-orbiting scroll to cool an interface between suction pressure chamber and discharge pressure chambers. Preferably the cooling passage extends for a relatively great circumferential extent, and preferably more than 45°. More preferably the passage extends for more than 90°. The cooling passage provides a heat barrier increasing the efficiency of compression. Moreover, by having the suction pressure flow to the interface between the thicker portion of the wrap and the opposed base of the orbiting scroll, several benefits are obtained with regard to reliable operation of the scroll compressor.
