  • Patent number: 6235693
Abstract: A composition for the cleaning of residues from substrates from about 0.01 percent by weight to about 10 percent by weight of one or more fluoride compounds, from about 20 percent by weight to about 50 percent by weight water, from about 20 percent by weight to about 80 percent by weight of an lactam solvent and from 0 to about 50 weight percent of an organic sulfoxide or glycol solvent. The composition has a pH between about 6 and about 10. Additionally, the composition optionally contains corrosion inhibitors, chelating agents, surfactants, acids and bases. In use of the composition, a substrate is contacted with the composition for a time and at a temperature that permits cleaning of the substrate.

  • Patent number: 6164118
Abstract: A calibration disk for calibrating the fly height of a head, includes spaced circumferencial bands on the disk extending in a concentric fashion from adjacent an outer diameter of the disk to near an inner diameter of the disk. Each of the bands include radial and circumferencial spaced asperity emulating bumps having a population sufficient to produce a constant and continuous output signal from a glide head when the glide head flies lower than a maximum height of the bumps. The height of the bumps within individual bands are substantially uniform, and the average heights of the bumps in each band differ from each other. The configuration of the bumps on the calibration disk advantageously avoids errors caused by disk waviness, runout, and contamination. Further, using the differing heights of the bumps on the calibration disk, a glide head can be calibrated on the glide tester without using an independent fly height measurements for the glide head.

  • Patent number: 6037834
Abstract: The AGC circuit and method especially applicable in circuits where fast response and stability of the system is necessary, such as where input signals are speech patterns. A gain feedback loop repeatedly adapts the gain and a long term average energy E.sub.mean of the output signal until it approaches a predetermined level. In each pass through the gain feedback loop the long term average energy E.sub.mean is increased by a gain compensation parameter directly proportional to a gain change, thereby rapidly adapting the long term average energy E.sub.mean to converge to the predetermined level.

  • Patent number: 5983227
Abstract: An custom page server is provided with user preferences organized into templates stored in compact data structures and the live data used to fill the templates stored local to the page server which is handing user requests for custom pages. One process is executed on the page server for every request. The process is provided a user template for the user making the request, where the user template is either generated from user preferences or retrieved from a cache of recently used user templates. Each user process is provided access to a large region of shared memory which contains all of the live data needed to fill any user template. Typically, the pages served are news pages, giving the user a custom selection of stock quotes, news headlines, sports scores, weather, and the like. With the live data stored in a local, shared memory, any custom page can be built within the page server, eliminating the need to make requests from other servers for portions of the live data.

  • Patent number: 5858401
Abstract: The invention comprises a stable solution of cyclosporine forming a polar lipid self-emulsifying drug delivery system ("PLSEDDS"). The composition typically consists of cyclosporine dissolved in a polar lipid, such as a medium chain monoglyceride of C.sub.6 -C.sub.12 fatty acids having a monoglyceride content of at least 50% and a surfactant. The composition provided here instantly forms a fine emulsion on exposure to water. The encapsulated dosage form of this composition needs neither a hydrophilic component nor air-tight blister packaging, and is particularly suitable for oral administration.

  • Patent number: 5799755
Abstract: A cab having a wheeled carriage fixed thereto is moved between rails on an elevator car frame and similar rails on a wheeled bogey. The ends of the rails are scarfed in a complimentary fashion so as to provide a temporary half-lap joint between the rails of the bogey and the rails of the car frame. Motion is provided by linear motors having active primaries disposed on the car frame and the bogey and passive secondaries disposed on the cab carriage. Motor control is in response to position signals provided by magnetostrictive linear displacement transducers. The cab carriage includes rollers on vertical axes which contact the insides of the rails for guidance. The cab carriage wheels and rollers are disposed in pairs separated sufficiently so that at least one roller and one wheel of each pair is in contact with a full rail as the carriage crosses the rail joints between the car frame and the bogey.

  • Patent number: 5759984
Abstract: Methods for stabilizing enzymes in liquid compositions, including those liquid compositions having a high water content and those stabilized enzyme liquid compositions formed thereby. The method involves forming the enzyme, so that it is in an insoluble form thereof and then adding thereto an agent for maintaining the enzyme in the insoluble form thereof. Examples of such insoluble forms are crystal forms of the enzyme. Enzymes which are stabilized in this manner are useful for combining with liquid compositions, including liquid compositions having a high water content. The method is particularly useful for the preparation of stable enzyme-containing liquid detergent compositions.

  • Patent number: 5686278
Abstract: A method to increase the efficiency of transduction of hematopoietic cells by retroviruses includes infecting the cells in the presence of fibronectin or fibronectin fragments. The fibronectin and fibronectin fragments significantly enhance retroviral-mediated gene transfer into the hematopoietic cells, particularly including committed progenitors and primitive hematopoietic stem cells. The invention also provides improved methods for somatic gene therapy capitalizing on the enhanced gene transfer, and hematopoietic cellular populations.
