  • Patent number: 5320720
Abstract: Increased efficiency of extraction of silver and gold from ore materials thereof containing active carbonaceous material is obtained by conducting the extraction in two stages. In a first stage a portion of the silver and of the gold when present is extracted in a cyanide leach solution. The leached solids residue is contacted with activated carbon so that the silver and the gold when present are adsorbed on the activated carbon at elevated temperature (most preferably at about 35.degree. C. to about 100.degree. C.). In a modification, a slurry of the ore material is treated with cyanide and the precious metal adsorbed directly from the cyanided slurry with activated carbon at elevated temperature up to about 70.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 5265032
Abstract: A computerized method for sensing the level of liquefied gas in a tank at a remote location and transmitting data between the location of the tank and the computer to maintain files for inventory control. A microprocessor collects electrical signals from a tank mounted transducer, which is actuated by a float gauge, and periodically sends data over telephone lines to a computer located remotely from the tank. The computer receives and processes data during time windows established for each of a group of tanks to provide current data regarding the supply of liquefied gas in the tanks.

  • Patent number: 5256189
Abstract: Refractory sulfidic silver ore which is not amenable to cyanide leaching is formed into an aqueous slurry and oxidized at elevated temperature, usually about 150.degree. to 250.degree. C., in the presence of an oxidizing agent, usually oxygen, and in the presence of about 30 to about 160 g/L zinc. Zinc present in the above range results in increased extractability of silver from the oxidized residue by cyanide leaching.

  • Patent number: 5023002
Abstract: A method and apparatus for recovering oil from an oil spill on the surface of a body of water. The method is operative for recovering an oil having a viscosity in excess of 80 centipoise and it includes the steps of drawing an oil-water mixture from the surface of a body of water, adjusting the viscosity of the oil in the oil-water mixture to a level below approximately 80 centipoise and passing the resultant adjusted oil-water mixture through an oil-water coalescer to separate the oil in the adjusted oil-water mixture from the water therein. The viscosity of the oil in the feed oil-water mixture is preferably adjusted by adding a low viscosity hydrophobic hydrocarbon solvent to the oil-water mixture.

  • Patent number: 4762552
Abstract: The beneficiation or upgrading of an iron-containing titaniferous ore to a synthetic rutile by subjecting the ore to reduction followed by acid leaching of the reduced ore is improved by forming a mixture of the ore and an aqueous sulfuric acid solution, adding a reducing agent to this mixture and then subjecting this mixture containing the reducing agent to reduction at elevated temperatures. The resulting reduced ore, which is characterized by an increase in the ferrous iron content thereof and an increase in its specific surface area, exhibits an enhanced response to subsequent acid leaching to provide a synthetic rutile of improved purity.

  • Patent number: 4719110
Abstract: The present invention provides for boron-containing wood preserving solutions and a method for their preparation. The wood preserving solutions of the invention are noncrystallizable at ambient temperatures and are prepared from a dispersion of a particulated sodium tetraborate, phosphoric acid and water by heating the dispersion at elevated temperatures and for a period of time sufficient to provide a clear solution. The particulated sodium tetraborate and phosphoric are present in the dispersion in a specific molar ratio of 5:3, said ratio being critical to achieving the noncrystallizable characteristic of the wood preserving solutions of the invention.
