Abstract: Systems and methods are described for a media guidance application (e.g., implemented on a user device) that allows users to select any arbitrary position in a virtual reality environment from where to view the virtual reality content and changes a user's perspective based on the selected position.

Abstract: An environmentally supportive seawater intake system includes a first filtering system in communication with raw seawater for providing a flow of seawater in a first direction into a raceway. A second filtering system is also in communication with seawater in the raceway and is adapted to receive a portion of the seawater in the raceway and directing it in a second direction away from the flow of residual water in the raceway. An input device receives the second portion flowing in the second direction, and a recovery system receives and returns the first, residual portion to the sea environment.

Abstract: The invention describes a method for the preparation of gelatin based gummy candies, wherein a liquid candy composition comprising gelatin, bulking agent and water is casted in a mold and allowed to set to provide the gelatin based gummy candies, and the gelatin based gummy candies are removed from the mold. The liquid candy composition comprises, based on the total weight of the composition, 20 w/w % or less water, and the mold is not capable of absorbing water from the liquid candy composition, and at least a portion of the mold that is in contact with the liquid candy composition is resilient. A liquid candy composition suitable to be casted in such a mold and capable to form gelatin based gummy candies upon setting therein is described.

The picking cart further has a power distribution system that is configured to power the information communication device by a first battery and the weighing device by the first battery or a second battery. The weighing device is powered by the first battery in preference to the second battery if a charge of the second battery is less than or equal to a first threshold amount.

Abstract: An acoustically activatable particle of material includes a first substance that includes a component that is a gas 25° C. and atmospheric pressure. A second substance, different from the first substance, encapsulates the first substance to create a droplet or emulsion that is stable at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. At least some of the first substance exists in a gaseous phase at the time of encapsulation of the first substance within the second substance to form a bubble. After formation of the bubble, the bubble is condensed into a liquid phase, which causes the bubble to transform into the droplet or emulsion having a core consisting of a liquid. The droplet or emulsion is an activatable phase change agent having a core consisting of a liquid at 25° C. and atmospheric pressure. The first substance has a boiling point below 25° C. at atmospheric pressure.

Abstract: A system includes an ion exchange softener fluidly coupled to a wastewater treatment system. The first ion exchange softener may receive a first brine stream from the wastewater treatment system and to remove a plurality of minerals from the first brine stream to generate a second brine stream including the plurality of minerals and a third brine stream. The system also includes a mineral removal system disposed downstream from the ion exchange softener and that may receive the second brine stream and to generate a sodium chloride (NaCl) brine stream and an acid and caustic production system disposed downstream from and fluidly coupled to the mineral removal system. The acid and caustic production system includes a first electrodialysis (ED) system that may receive the NaCl brine stream from the mineral removal system and to generate hydrochloric acid (HCl) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) from the NaCl brine stream.

Abstract: A method for generating and maintaining hierarchical tags with community-based ratings is provided. Tags for media streams are organized into a hierarchical format. Users may select tags from the hierarchical tag database that describes a particular multimedia content. If the user is unable to locate a desired tag, the user may submit a new tag. Upon submission of the new tag, a librarian approves the tag before storing and placing the tag in the hierarchical tag database. Users are also able to rate the quality of the association between the tag and the multimedia content. If a tag is rated low, the tag may be removed from the hierarchical tag database. If the tag is rated highly, display of the tag in a list of tags becomes more prominent.

Abstract: An embedded wire-grid polarizer (WGP) can include ribs 13 located over a surface of a transparent substrate 11, gaps 16 between the ribs 13, and a fill-layer 15 substantially filling the gaps 16. The fill-layer can have a relatively high index of refraction, such as greater than 1.4. At a wavelength of light incident upon the WGP, E? transmission can be greater than E? transmission. E? is a polarization of light with an electric field oscillation parallel to a length L of the ribs, and E? is a polarization of light with an electric field oscillation perpendicular to a length L of the ribs. This embedded, inverse WGP is especially useful for polarizing, with high WGP performance, small wavelength (high-energy) regions of the electromagnetic spectrum (e.g. UV) which are difficult to polarize with conventional WGPs (E? transmission >E? transmission).

According to an aspect of the present invention there is a training ball system comprising a training ball including a receiver for receiving a wireless signal from a remote location, the training ball further comprising a vibration module for providing a sensory indication to a user carrying the training ball, an input device physically separate from the training ball including a transmitter for enabling transmission of a wireless signal to the receiver; the system configured such that the vibration module vibrates in response to transmission of a wireless signal from the input device to the receiver.

Abstract: Systems and methods for mobile dimensioning and weighing are disclosed. An example mobile weighting and dimensioning system includes a truck scale system and a tape measure. The truck scale system includes: a fork scale to weigh a parcel that is held by forks; and a weight indicator to receive an indication of the weight of the parcel from the fork scale. The tape measure includes: a tape cartridge to spool and unspool a tape having electronically readable indicia; a measurement circuit to determine linear dimensions of the parcel by reading the electronically readable indicia in response to trigger events; and a communications circuit to transmit the first linear dimension of the parcel to the weight indicator. The weight indicator associates the weight and the first linear dimension with an identifier of the parcel, and transmits the weight, the first linear dimension, and the identifier to a computing system.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for resuming media in different modes of playback, based on attributes of a physical environment that a user has moved to. For example, a user may access a media asset (e.g., television broadcast of a baseball game) in a first environment (e.g., a living room). A media guidance application may then determine that the user has left the first environment. In response, the media guidance application may identify the user's new environment (e.g., a car) and analyze characteristics of the new environment. Based on the characteristics, the media guidance application may determine a suitable mode of playback (e.g., an audio version featuring play-by-play commentary of the baseball game on the car's radio) that the user can access from the playback position from where the user left off at the first environment.

Abstract: A cloud-based media content management system for managing access to media content items is disclosed. Managing access to media content items by a cloud-based media content management system may include, for example, managing uploads of media content items from a population of media devices, reducing duplication of media content data stored in cloud-based storage, and providing user-controlled access to media content items stored in cloud-based storage across any number of user devices. In this context, a cloud-based media content management system and cloud-based storage system generally refer to hosted computing and data storage services that may be accessed by media devices and other devices over a digital network such as the Internet.

Abstract: Systems and methods provided for presenting supplemental content in an augmented reality environment where an object within a field of view of an augmented reality device of a user is identified and processed to detect a reference related to a participant in an event. A user profile or user social network is searched to identify a message from the user about the participant. The message may be combined with the object in the augmented reality field of view.

Abstract: Systems and methods for alerting users to differences between first and second media versions of a story are provided. Given a first version of the media asset, a first sequence of plot segments in the first version that collectively represent a story arc may be identified. A second version of the media asset may be processed to identify a second sequence of plot segments that collectively represent the story arc. The first sequence and second sequence of plot segments may be compared to identify a set of plot segments representing a difference between the sequences. In response to detecting that a user consuming the first version of the media asset has reached a given plot segment that represents a resolution to the story, a summary of the set of plot segments representing the difference between the first and second sequences may be generated for display.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for recommending disease related content based on a disease associated with a user. A user may request his or her genetic testing data. That genetic testing data may then be used to determine which genetic disease the user may possesses. Furthermore, the genetic testing data may indicate genetically-linked offspring of the user that may also be affected by a mutation that can lead to a genetic disease. The media guidance application may then recommend disease-related content to both the user and offspring.
