  • Publication number: 20190208270
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for resuming media in different modes of playback, based on attributes of a physical environment that a user has moved to. For example, a user may access a media asset (e.g., television broadcast of a baseball game) in a first environment (e.g., a living room). A media guidance application may then determine that the user has left the first environment. In response, the media guidance application may identify the user's new environment (e.g., a car) and analyze characteristics of the new environment. Based on the characteristics, the media guidance application may determine a suitable mode of playback (e.g., an audio version featuring play-by-play commentary of the baseball game on the car's radio) that the user can access from the playback position from where the user left off at the first environment.

  • Publication number: 20190208242
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for managing subscriptions. A media guidance application obtaining viewing patterns of a subscriber and determining a first and second media package of interest to the subscriber. A first and second release schedule are obtained related to media content in the first and second media packages. The media guidance application predicts a first viewing impact of the first subscription and a second viewing impact of the second subscription, for the upcoming time period, wherein the viewing impact indicates a total predicted amount of time spent viewing the media packages in the upcoming time period. An available amount of time for viewing media in the upcoming time period is also determined. The media guidance application generates a subscription recommendation for the upcoming time period based on the first viewing impact, second viewing impact, and available amount of time for viewing media in the upcoming time period.

  • Publication number: 20190154900
Abstract: An embedded wire-grid polarizer (WGP) can include ribs 13 located over a surface of a transparent substrate 11, gaps 16 between the ribs 13, and a fill-layer 15 substantially filling the gaps 16. The fill-layer can have a relatively high index of refraction, such as greater than 1.4. At a wavelength of light incident upon the WGP, E? transmission can be greater than E? transmission. E? is a polarization of light with an electric field oscillation parallel to a length L of the ribs, and E? is a polarization of light with an electric field oscillation perpendicular to a length L of the ribs. This embedded, inverse WGP is especially useful for polarizing, with high WGP performance, small wavelength (high-energy) regions of the electromagnetic spectrum (e.g. UV) which are difficult to polarize with conventional WGPs (E? transmission>E? transmission).

  • Patent number: 10275395
Abstract: A cloud-based media content management system for managing access to media content items is disclosed. Managing access to media content items by a cloud-based media content management system may include, for example, managing uploads of media content items from a population of media devices, reducing duplication of media content data stored in cloud-based storage, and providing user-controlled access to media content items stored in cloud-based storage across any number of user devices. In this context, a cloud-based media content management system and cloud-based storage system generally refer to hosted computing and data storage services that may be accessed by media devices and other devices over a digital network such as the Internet.

  • Publication number: 20190092354
Abstract: A rail vehicle with two sideframes and a bolster as the freight car truck has limits on stability. A railway freight car truck having a friction shoe with a constant force device acting directly on the shoe flat surface is provided, such that the friction shoe is forced to remain in contact with the side frame mating vertical surface. The control spring acting on the friction shoe which applies a varying force to the side frame mating surface. The damping of the friction shoe is retained when there is less variable force of friction, which decreases vertical acceleration of the rail vehicle, providing high speed stability for most track conditions.
