  • Publication number: 20080306909
Abstract: Systems and methods that intelligently download media files from a repository to a portable device of a user (e.g., cell phone), via an intelligent download engine and based on likelihood that such downloaded files are of interest to the user. Accordingly, from a user's perspective a seamless access to music depository is provided (e.g., typically all files of the depository seem to be virtually present on the portable device), and a user's manual interaction (e.g., selection of files based on memory requirement of the portable unit) is mitigated.

  • Publication number: 20080255405
Abstract: A fluid pressure generating means (10) for a heart assist device having blood pumping means. The pressure generating means (10) includes a housing (11), defining an interior volume (18), and having a substantially rigid first housing portion (12), a substantially rigid second housing portion (14), a flexible third housing portion (16) extending between the first (12) and second (14) housing portions and an inlet/outlet port (15) adapted for fluid communication with the blood pumping means. The pressure generating means (10) also includes a fluid filling the housing and a motor (20) disposed within the housing (11) and connected between the first (12) and second (14) housing portions. Actuation of the motor (20) moves the first (12) and second (14) housing portions relative to one another to generate fluid pressure changes at the inlet/outlet port (15). A related heart assist device and method for the treatment of congestive heart failure, myocardial ischemia and like conditions are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20080244133
Abstract: A data processing apparatus and method are providing for arbitrating access to a shared resource. The data processing apparatus has a plurality of logic elements sharing access to the shared resource, and arbitration circuitry which is responsive to requests by one or more of the logic elements for access to the shared resource to perform a priority determination operation to select one of the requests as a winning request. The arbitration circuitry applies an arbitration policy to associate priorities with each logic element, the arbitration policy comprising multiple priority groups, each priority group having a different priority and containing at least one of the logic elements. Within each priority group, the arbitration circuitry applies a priority ordering operation to attribute relative priorities to the logic elements within that priority group.

  • Publication number: 20080221921
Abstract: Disclosed are methods of conducting and assessing the outcomes of a randomized controlled clinical trial. The method comprises the steps of: trialing, with respect to a first group of patients as an experimental group, an experimental treatment; and trialing, with respect to a second group of patients as a control group, at least first and second control therapies. The control therapies will have been previously validated or are a known standard of care. This method is described in relation to trialing and assessing implantable medical devices such as left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) but may be used for trialing and assessing other medical devices.
