  • Patent number: 7681759
Abstract: Fluid-dispensing apparatus include a fluid-dispensing needle. A gas discharge member is positioned proximate a dispensing end of the needle that is configured to direct a gas towards a fluid tear-off position below the dispensing end of the needle. A controller controls discharge of the gas by the gas discharge member to control dispensing of fluid from the needle. The dispensing control may control an amount of fluid dispensed from the needle and/or tailing off of fluid dispensed from the needle. The amount of fluid dispensed from the needle may be a microliter range volume of a viscous fluid.

  • Publication number: 20100061388
Abstract: A server-client system or architecture that allows datacast applications to reliably transport data objects from a network server over a unidirectional packet network (“datacast network”) to one or more clients, each of which may be listening to the packet stream at different times. The invention allows the clients to listen intermittently to the datacast, yet still receive all of the data objects published by the server in a timely manner, and in a way that is more optimal in terms of client resource use. This ensures that listening clients can receive a complete set of the data objects broadcast while being able to conserve client processing and power resources by not requiring continuous listening by the client to the datacast.

  • Patent number: 7664901
Abstract: A data processing apparatus and method are providing for arbitrating access to a shared resource. The data processing apparatus has a plurality of logic elements sharing access to the shared resource, and arbitration circuitry which is responsive to requests by one or more of the logic elements for access to the shared resource to perform a priority determination operation to select one of the requests as a winning request. The arbitration circuitry applies an arbitration policy to associate priorities with each logic element, the arbitration policy comprising multiple priority groups, each priority group having a different priority and containing at least one of the logic elements. Within each priority group, the arbitration circuitry applies a priority ordering operation to attribute relative priorities to the logic elements within that priority group.

  • Publication number: 20090323181
Abstract: A surgical microscopy system having an illumination system is provided. The illumination system comprises a xenon gas discharge lamp and a spectral filter which is optionally positionable into an illumination beam path of the surgical microscopy system and removable from the same. The spectral filter substantially exhibits, in a wavelength range between 400 nm and 700 nm, a transmission increasing from about 0.12 to 1 having a gradient between 0.025/nm and 0.0035/nm, in particular 0.00293/nm. Thus, the illumination system is enabled to provide light having two different spectral characteristics which is advantageous in particular for imaging structures in the human eye scattering to a different degree.

  • Publication number: 20090194997
Abstract: A reaction turbine system for the generation of hydroelectricity is disclosed. It consists of a Darrieus type turbine with a horizontal axis of rotation. The blades may be straight or helical, and are held equidistant from the central rotating shaft by blade support members. The blades are oriented so that a blade at its rotational apex moves directly opposite to the direction of water flow. The turbine is elevated such that the top portion, where blades travel directly against the direction of water flow, is in the air and above the water level. This design greatly reduces stresses on the system and increases energy output relative to a Darrieus turbine fully immersed in water flow. This design also enables the turbine to self-start.

  • Publication number: 20090157062
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for imaging an eye portion or for treating glaucoma in an eye of a patient. In a first step an optical microscopic image of a portion of the eye is acquired. In the optical microscopic image a distinguishable anatomical structure is identified to predict a location of a volume portion to be imaged three-dimensionally. Three-dimensional imaging of the located volume portion is performed by acquiring an optical coherence tomography image of the located volume portion. The volume portion is treated by either directing a laser beam to the volume portion or inserting an implant based on the OCT-image.
