  • Publication number: 20110259601
Abstract: A downhole releasable connector is described for releasably connecting a wireline to a downhole tool. The connector comprises a first portion arranged to be connected to a wireline and a second portion arranged to be connected to a downhole tool. A locking arrangement is arranged to lock the first and second portions together when in a first position and to release the first and second portions from each other when in a second position. A reversible drive mechanism is provided to move the locking arrangement between the first and second portions. As the drive mechanism is reversible, it is able to lock and unlock the locking arrangement and so release and reconnect the first and second portions of the connector so that it can be tested prior to use providing increased confidence in the tool and allowing inspection of critical parts within the release mechanism.

  • Publication number: 20110233757
Abstract: An integrated circuit package comprises a package substrate, an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) having a first area and formed on a first wafer made from a select semiconductor material, a second wafer of the select semiconductor material, and a supplemental-integrated circuit. The supplemental-integrated circuit has a second area different from the first area. The first wafer includes a through-wafer via to couple the ASIC to the package substrate. An active surface of the ASIC is coupled to the second wafer. The second wafer is arranged with a window there through that is sized to closely receive and align one or more bonding interfaces of the supplemental-integrated circuit to respective bonding interfaces of the ASIC. A corresponding method for assembling a die-stacked integrated circuit package is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8021473
Abstract: A process for manufacturing an ink, or pigment formulation (e.g. a concentrate) for use in inks, comprising filtration of a composition comprising a particulate pigment and a liquid medium through an inorganic filter having pores of a uniform size below 10 microns. The process accurately removes oversized particles that could cause problems in inkjet printers without wasting non-problematic under-sized pigment. High flow rates are achieved even with low trans-filter pressure differences. In one embodiment, high flow rates are maintained by selection of pH and/or ionic strength. The filters are more robust than conventional polymeric filters and withstand cleaning with aggressive cleaning agents.

  • Patent number: 8016232
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided controlling aircraft cabin pressure, and more specifically engine bleed air manifold pressure, during aircraft descent. An aircraft engine bleed air manifold control pressure setpoint is to either a descent pressure setpoint or a cruise pressure setpoint by determining a rotational speed of an aircraft engine component, determining a component speed setpoint value, and determining aircraft vertical speed. The engine bleed air manifold control pressure setpoint is set to the descent pressure setpoint if either the determined rotational speed of the aircraft engine component is below the component speed setpoint value or the aircraft vertical speed is less than a predetermined vertical speed value.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for searching media files using a set-top box (STB), a television receiver, digital video recorder (DVR), placeshifting device or other media device, or any type of network host that communicates with a media device of any sort. Search criteria is received from a user, and the search criteria is identified in listings of media programming available from one or more sources. In some implementations, a combined search result can be provided that identifies instances of the search criteria found in program guide listings, files stored on a digital video recorder (DVR), available on-demand content, or any other sources as desired. Some implementations may prioritize search results using information about files stored on a DVR, user preferences, or any other information as desired.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for remotely controlling a personal or digital video recorder (PVR/DVR), a set top box (STB), a placeshifting device, or any other media server. A communications session is established between a server host and the media server in response to a connection request received from the client. Information about the content processed at the media server is received via the session and provided to the client. In response to subsequent instructions received from the client, the media server can be controlled, or other actions can be taken, by providing directions to the media server from the host via the communications session. • Patent number: 7937188
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to systems and methods for controlling the temperature of an internal device while reducing or minimizing the involvement of the host. Thus, some of the heat monitoring and remediation work may be offloaded to the actual device itself. The device may monitor its own temperature and, in the event of high temperature, perform device specific heat reduction actions without involving the host. Furthermore, the device may, upon detecting temperature within a predefined range, alert the host of a high temperature condition in order to allow the host to perform temperature reduction measures. Also, the device may, upon detecting temperature within a predefined range, alert the host of an impending device shutdown and shut the device down. In addition, the device may periodically save its temperature into non-volatile memory in order to create a temperature log.

  • Patent number: 7801816
Abstract: The invention provides a currency selectable stored value instrument, whose currency may be chosen or converted at the time value is loaded, after load but prior to redemption of value, at the time of redemption, or at other times. One embodiment of the system is configured so that the stored value instrument may be a plastic card with a magnetic stripe, compatible with card readers on Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) or other terminals. In one embodiment, U.S. dollars may be converted to Mexican pesos when the stored value instrument is loaded at an ATM or other location in the United States. A user may subsequently redeem that value for legal tender in pesos at an ATM located in Mexico, for example, or for goods, services, or cash in other currencies.

  • Publication number: 20100188286
Abstract: A time reference system for generating a time reference from signals produced by a global navigation satellite constellation has a satellite signal receiver to receive and down-convert code-modulated signals from a plurality of satellites and a correlator to track and decode the down-converted signals to provide signals containing partial pseudo-range measurements for respective satellites. A data processing arrangement receives assistance data from an external source and performs data-bit synchronisation in which bit edges of a low frequency data bit stream carried by the received satellite signals are identified, to perform a preliminary position-velocity-time solution to provide an approximate time reference, and to perform auto-correlation of pre-selected data sequences in the data stream to resolve time ambiguities thereby to compute a precise time reference signal in weak received signal conditions.

  • Patent number: 7640128
Abstract: An electrical machine has a rotor position transducer which provides output signals to a control system. The output signals contain errors due to component shortcomings and manufacturing imperfections. A method is disclosed which is able to determine the errors in the signals by the use of a position detection algorithm so as to provide compensations to the control system of the machine. The compensations may be stored in the control system and used to improve the accuracy of the transducer output signals, thus improving the output of the machine.
