  • Publication number: 20050054938
Abstract: Method and calculations determine an individual's, or several individuals' simultaneous rates of oxygen consumption, maximum rates of oxygen consumption, heart rates, calorie expenditures, and METS (multiples of metabolic resting rate) in order to determine the amounts of work that is performed by the individual's body. A heart monitor measures the heart rate, and an accelerometer measures the acceleration of the body along one or more axes. An altimeter measures change in altitude, a glucose monitor measures glucose in tissue and blood, and thermometers, thermistors, or thermocouples measure body temperature. Data including body fat and blood pressure measurements are stored locally and transferred to a processor for calculation of the rate of physiological energy expenditure. Certain cardiovascular parameters are mathematically determined.

  • Publication number: 20040229073
Abstract: A coated article is provided that may be heat treated in certain example embodiments. A coating of the coated article includes a zinc oxide inclusive layer located over and contacting a contact layer that is in contact with an infrared (IR) reflecting layer of a material such as silver. It has been found that the use of such a zinc oxide inclusive layer results in improved thermal stability upon heat treatment, increased visible transmission, and/or lower sheet resistance (Rs).

  • Patent number: 6763545
Abstract: An adjustable brush for cleaning a drive or sprocket chain has a C-shaped toolhead fixed to a handle with an opposing cleaning element. The length of the handle sufficiently keeps users hands away from the chain during cleaning, and provides a means for the opposing cleaning element to clean generally inaccessible areas. The toolhead defines a chain passage recess having a plurality of inner sides. Each inner side has projecting retaining members to define a brush block cavity adapted to removably receive a brush block element such that a cleaning member formed thereon projects into the recess. Likewise, the opposing cleaning element has a pair of retaining members projecting therefrom to define a brush block cavity adapted to removably receive a brush block element.

  • Publication number: 20040101694
Abstract: A low-E coated article is provided, in certain example embodiments, with a layer including silicon nitride adjacent the glass substrate in order to improve chemical and/or mechanical durability of the coated article. In certain example embodiments, the coated article may be formed so as to have a fairly high visible transmission (TY or Tvis) to sheet resistance (Rs) ratio (i.e., a ratio Tvis/Rs) The higher this ratio, the better the coated article's combined functionality of providing for both good solar performance (e.g., ability to reflect and/or absorb IR radiation) and high visible transmission. Coated articles herein may be used in the context of windows or the like (e.g., laminated vehicle windshields).

  • Patent number: 6626229
Abstract: A process for producing slabs having a thickness D>100 mm, at casting speeds v<3 m/min, in a continuous casting installation in which melt is supplied to a permanent mold from a storage reservoir via an immersion nozzle and from which, on the aperture side, a strand shell enclosing a liquid crater is withdrawn into a strand guidance frame, in particular a bow-type continuous casting installation. The melt supplied enters the permanent mold at a speed (vK) whose relationship with respect to the strand withdrawal speed (vB) is: vK:vB=6:1 to 60:1, and the flow filaments of the melt supplied are guided in such a way that, with regard to the melt level, they penetrate into the liquid crater over a length L<2 m over a wide front and with a profile which is rectangular in cross section.

  • Patent number: 6580002
Abstract: Trifluoromethyl-substituted biphenylcarboxylic acids are prepared by converting methyl-substituted biphenylcarbonitriles into the corresponding trichloromethyl-substituted biphenylcarbonitriles, converting the trichloromethyl group thereof to a trifluoromethyl group and thus obtaining trifluoromethyl-substituted biphenylcarbonitriles, and preparing the corresponding carboxylic acids therefrom by hydrolysis. A number of intermediates arising during this are novel compounds.
