  • Publication number: 20070210104
Abstract: In a method of cooling and/or lubricating of rolls and/or rolling stock according to which a cooling medium is applied to the rolls from a plurality of nozzles/nozzle rows, on one hand, and for lubrication, on the other hand, base oil is applied to the rolling stock in front of a roll gap, wherein the nozzles/nozzle rows are adjusted separately and independent from each other the cooling medium is applied to the rolls separately from the base oil, and finally, the base oil without water as a base medium is applied directly to the rolling stock over an entire width thereof in a very small amount in comparison with a conventional amount. To this end, media separating means is arranged between the nozzles/nozzle rows for applying cooling medium to the rolls and the nozzles/nozzle rows for applying base oil to the rolling stock.

  • Publication number: 20070186609
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for applying an adjustable tensile-stress distribution, in particular in the edge regions during the cold-rolling of metal strips (16), in particular metal foil, in order to reduce the risk of an excessive build-up of tension and cracks at the edges of the strip, which can lead as a negative consequence to cracks in the strip and to a reduction in production, and in order to improve the surface of the strip and its planarity, even for a relatively high strip displacement speed, and also to reduce strip trimming widths.

  • Patent number: 7194314
Abstract: A cochlear implant wherein the return path of the electrode array is located to increase current flow through the modiolus. The return electrode is placed at various locations outside the cochlea, and into the modiolus itself. In addition, the electrode array includes an inflatable membrane that is inflated to anchor the array in position in the cochlea with the electrode contacts pressed into contact with the modiolar wall and allowing the membrane to seal with the surrounding tissue of the cochlea, increasing the longitudinal resistance along the cochlear implant electrode, decreasing shunting of the injected current via scala tympani. In experiments that were conducted the current along the modiolus was determined to be, on average, 2.4 times larger with the return electrode in the modiolus than in an extracochlear location.

  • Patent number: 6834521
Abstract: In a method for drying and keeping dry rolled strip in a delivery area of strip-rolling plants, a partition is arranged in the delivery area for separating a damp area of the rolling mill from a dry area. The partition extends from the base plate to the stand platform. The strip is subjected to pressurized gas by the ends of the partition facing the strip at a right angle to the strip surface from above and below. Across the strip width a cushion of a compressed gas is generated and seals a gap between the ends of the partition facing the strip and the upper and lower strip surfaces. The compressed gas is guided away above and below the strip parallel to the strip surface as a split flow toward the rolling mill or the damp area and as a split flow in the opposite direction toward the dry area.

  • Patent number: 6311619
Abstract: The invention relates to a sheet-fed rotary printing machine with printing units for multi-color printing and with at least one coating unit. The object of the invention is, inter alia, to provide a sheet-fed rotary printing machine of the type described in the introduction, in which at least one coating unit can be used more universally and set-up times are reduced. This is achieved in that the coating unit 2, 3 is formed from an impression cylinder 10, a form cylinder 12 and a metering system 14 with a screened applicator roller 13. The applicator roller 13 has a circular segment congruent to the cylinder pit of the form cylinder 12, is at least the same size as the form cylinder 12 and can be imaged as a rough intaglio printing form.

  • Patent number: 6186597
Abstract: In the plough pick arrangement according to the invention for mining ploughs or coal ploughs, the plough pick is held in the socket of a pick holder. On that side of the pick holder which is leading in the working direction of the plough pick a pick lead-through opening is provided through which the pick can be inserted by its shank until it reaches a rear stop and is retained by a securing device. The pick can be removed from the socket through the same opening, after the securing device has been released, when pick replacement is necessary. This makes it possible to insert the pick into and remove it from the pick holder, not from the working side, but from the front of the holder. The pick holder and the pick are preferably provided with co-operating bearing and guiding faces which are inclined at an oblique angle to a plane parallel with the working face so that the cutting bit of the pick moves away from the working face when the pick is removed.
