  • Patent number: 10782045
Abstract: An example system is configured to control conditions in an enclosed space. The system includes scavenger and process plenums, a liquid-to-air membrane energy exchanger (LAMEE), a first liquid-to-air heat exchanger (LAHX), a second LAHX, and a fluid circuit The scavenger plenum is configured to direct scavenger air from a scavenger inlet to a scavenger outlet. The process plenum is sealed from the scavenger plenum and is configured to direct process air from a process inlet to a process outlet The process inlet receives heated air from the space and the process outlet supplies cooled air to the space. The LAMEE is arranged inside the scavenger plenum. The LAMEE is configured to use the scavenger air to evaporatively cool a first fluid flowing through the LAMEE. The temperature of the first fluid at a LAMEE outlet is lower than the temperature of the first fluid at a LAMEE inlet. The first LAHX is arranged inside the process plenum.

  • Publication number: 20200284464
Abstract: A hybrid system and method for conditioning air for an enclosed space can include a direct cooling system in combination with an indirect cooling system. The hybrid system can use direct cooling when ambient temperature and humidity levels are such that 100% outdoor air can be delivered to the enclosed space. The hybrid system can use indirect cooling when 100% of the return air can be conditioned using an external cooling unit and then returned to the enclosed space as supply air. The external cooling unit can include an evaporative cooler and operate in a dry mode and a wet mode. The external cooling unit can produce a reduced temperature cooling fluid and provide liquid cooling to the air when the system is operating in the indirect mode, and in some cases, in the direct mode. The hybrid system can operate in a mixed mode in which the external cooling unit is off and a mix of return air and outdoor air can be delivered to the enclosed space.

  • Publication number: 20200288602
Abstract: Conditioning systems and methods for providing cooling to a heat load can include an evaporative cooler arranged in a scavenger plenum with a recovery coil downstream of the evaporative cooler. The conditioning systems can operate in various modes, including an adiabatic mode and an evaporative mode, and a blended mode between the adiabatic mode and the evaporative mode, depending on environmental conditions. The blended mode can be enabled by a fluid transmission and retention device fluidically connected to the inlet and outlet of the evaporative cooler, the recovery coil outlet, and the heat load. The fluid transmission and retention device can variably distribute the cooling fluid exiting the recovery coil and the cooling fluid exiting the evaporative cooler to one or both of the heat load and the evaporative cooler inlet. In an example, the fluid transmission and retention device includes a manifold. In another example, the fluid transmission and retention device includes one or more tanks.

  • Patent number: 10712024
Abstract: A liquid to air membrane energy exchanger (LAMEE) can be used as part of a heating and cooling system to transfer heat and moisture between a liquid desiccant and an air stream to condition the temperature and humidity of the air flowing through the LAMEE. The membrane can be a non-porous film having selective permeability for water, but not for other constituents that form the liquid desiccant. The non-porous membrane can allow for use of liquid desiccants, such as glycols, that had been previously determined to be unacceptable or undesirable in these types of applications. In an example, the membrane can be an ion-exchange membrane or pervaporation membrane.

  • Publication number: 20200096212
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for conditioning air using a liquid-to-air membrane energy exchanger (LAMEE) as a pre-dryer, in combination with a direct evaporative cooler (DEC). The LAMEE and DEC can be arranged inside a process plenum configured to receive and condition air for delivery to an enclosed space. The LAMEE can circulate a liquid desiccant to remove moisture from the air, before passing the air through the DEC. As a result, the DEC can cool the air to lower temperatures and improve overall efficiency. In an example, a regeneration system can regenerate at least some of the liquid desiccant prior to recirculation through the LAMEE. In an example, the DEC can use removed water recovered in regeneration as make up water for the DEC. In an example, a liquid to air or liquid to liquid heat exchanger can cool the liquid desiccant, prior to recirculation through the LAMEE.

  • Publication number: 20200063995
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for conditioning air for an enclosed space using a liquid to air membrane energy exchanger (LAMEE) as a pre-dryer for removing moisture from an air stream with a desiccant flowing through the LAMEE. The LAMEE can be arranged inside a plenum configured to receive and condition an air stream. The LAMEE can be used in combination with a regeneration system to recover water from the dilute desiccant exiting the LAMEE for use as make up water for one or more evaporative coolers in the conditioning system. This can reduce or eliminate an external water supply for operation of the one or more evaporative coolers. The conditioning system can operate effectively with only a portion of the dilute desiccant being regenerated.

  • Publication number: 20190271490
Abstract: Systems and methods for controlling temperature in an enclosed space can include an air-to-air heat exchanger (AAHX) and a direct evaporative cooler (DEC). The DEC can be located in a scavenger or outdoor air stream such that the DEC cools the outdoor air, which is then used to cool or reject heat from a process air stream passing through the AAHX. In an example, the AAHX can be a sensible wheel. In another example, the AAHX can be a counter-flow flat plate. The system can operate in various modes, including an economizer mode and an evaporation mode, depending, in part, on the outdoor air conditions and a load on the system. In some examples, the system can include a DX coil to provide additional cooling to the process air in another operating mode.

  • Patent number: 10346616
Abstract: One method for developing a data loss prevention model includes receiving, at a processing device, an event record corresponding to an operation performed on a computing device. The event record includes an event type and event data. The method also includes transforming, using the processing device, the event type to an event number corresponding to the event type. The method includes transforming, using the processing device, the event data to a numerical representation of the event data. The method includes associating an indication of whether the event type and the event data correspond to a data loss event with the event number and the numerical representation. The method also includes determining the data loss prevention model using the indication, the event number, and the numerical representation.

  • Publication number: 20190113247
Abstract: Conditioning systems and methods for providing cooling to a heat load can include an evaporative cooler arranged in a scavenger plenum with a pre-cooler upstream and a recovery coil downstream of the evaporative cooler. Outdoor or scavenger air can be conditioned in the evaporative cooler such that the conditioned scavenger air can provide cooling to a cooling fluid circulating through the recovery coil. The reduced-temperature cooling fluid can provide liquid cooling or air cooling for an enclosed space (for example, a data center) or for one or more devices that are enclosed or open to the atmosphere. Given the design and arrangement of the pre-cooler, evaporative cooler and recovery coil in the plenum, the system can operate in multiple modes. The pre-cooler can be configured to circulate a cooling fluid to condition the scavenger air. The pre-cooler fluid circuit can be coupled or de-coupled from a process cooling fluid circuit.
