  • Patent number: 7486823
Abstract: A system and method is described for providing an encoding scheme for a bit stream and displaying or printing the encoded bit stream. Using the encoded bit stream, a pen with a camera may capture an image of a portion of the encoded bit stream. The captured image may then be decoded to provide an indication of the location of the image in relation to the encoded bit stream. The encoding scheme includes information regarding orientation, thus making decoding easier.

  • Patent number: 7486615
Abstract: A computer network processes data packets in the event of a network link failure. The network includes a plurality of routers that deliver data packets to the network via a plurality of links. At least one router includes a protection cycle manager. The protection cycle manager has a protection cycle packet identifier and a protection cycle packet processor. The protection cycle packet identifier identifies, as protection cycle packets, data packets having a specific protection cycle format. The protection cycle packet processor processes protection cycle packets to determine whether the packet destination corresponds to the routing node, and if the packet destination corresponds to the routing node, the protection cycle packet is treated by the routing node as a data packet received from the packet source via the failed link. Otherwise, if the packet destination does not correspond to the routing node, the protection cycle packet is sent to a protection cycle node for the routing node.

  • Publication number: 20090016614
Abstract: An efficient technique is provided for determining a portion of a document corresponding to a captured image. Areas of a document in which the pattern is at least partially obscured are identified. A reference pixel in the image is selected, and an offset between the pixel and the pattern is determined. A pixel-by-pixel comparison is then made of the image with the document such that the reference pixel is only compared with locations in the document that are both within the identified areas and have the determined offset from the pattern. The comparison with the highest correspondence between the image pixels and the electronic document then identifies the position of the reference pixel relative to the electronic document.

  • Patent number: 7476599
Abstract: A two-phase thermal method for the preparation of cadmium sulfide quantum dots where a cadmium source, a sulfur source and a capping agent are heated in water and water-insoluble organic solvents forming a two-phase system. By means of varying reaction time, cadmium sulfide quantum dots of different sizes can be prepared. Quantum dots already obtained can be used as crystal seeds in the reaction of newly added reaction precursor to give larger sized quantum dots with a size distribution similar to that of the initial crystal seeds so as to realize the control of quantum dot size. The quantum dots obtained in the present invention have relatively narrow size distribution, and emit royal purple or blue light under ultraviolet lamp, with a photoluminescence quantum efficiency of from 3 to 60%.

  • Patent number: 7469614
Abstract: A shifter mechanism includes a shifter lever movable along a shift path and a detent plate movable with the shifter lever along the shift path and forming a detent profile defining a plurality of gear positions. A pawl is movable between a locking position wherein the pawl engages the detent profile to lock the shifter lever in one of the plurality of gear positions and an unlocking position wherein the shifter lever is movable along the shift path between the plurality of gear positions. A pivotable detent lever carries the pawl over an arcuate path between the locking position and the unlocking position. A linear actuator is operatively coupled to the detent lever to selectively pivot the detent lever. The pawl preferably includes a roller that engages the detent profile when the pawl is in the locking position.

  • Patent number: 7467569
Abstract: A shifter mechanism includes a shift lever movable along a shift path and a detent assembly. The detent assembly includes a detent profile defining a plurality of gear positions, a bore, a detent plunger located at least partially within the bore, a spring member resiliently biasing the detent plunger into engagement with the detent profile, a split bushing located between the detent plunger and the bore, and a spacer located between the spring member and the bushing. The bushing is located between the spacer and an abutment of the detent plunger, and the spring member is located between the spacer and an abutment of the bore. Contact surfaces between the bushing and the abutment and between the bushing and the spacer are each angled so that a force of the spring member automatically expands the bushing to remove any free-play formed between the detent plunger and the bore.

  • Publication number: 20080313617
Abstract: Described is a technology by which software instrumentation data collected from user program sessions are analyzed, including by determining program usage metrics and/or command usage metrics. Information representative of the program usage metrics and/or the command usage metrics is output, such as in the form of a report. The software instrumentation data may be further analyzed, such as to determine at least one usage trend over time, and to determine user groups. For example, a usage subset of sessions that meet specified session usage criteria based on a set of session data may be located, along with a subset of users based on users whose sessions meet specified user criteria. The usage and user subsets may be combined via Boolean logic to produce a result set.

  • Publication number: 20080313507
Abstract: Described is a technology by which software instrumentation data collected during software program usage sessions is analyzed to identify potential problems with software program usage, such as based on frequency of problem occurrence during the usage sessions. Reliability metrics may be calculated from the information. Failure data additionally collected during the usage sessions may be accessed to derive details that correspond to the potential problems. In one example, the information may be analyzed to determine which alerts and/or asserts occurred most often, and/or to determine a relationship between user interface control operations (e.g., clicks and usage of commands) and alerts or asserts.

  • Publication number: 20080313633
Abstract: Described is a technology for analyzing usage of a software program's features. Software instrumentation data is during actual user program usage sessions. The collected data is then processed to determine various feature usage counts and other information, cross-feature usage (e.g., among users who use a feature, how many use another feature or program), and characteristics of feature users, e.g., how long, how much, how often and how extensive feature users use a program. Session analysis may be performed to provide information about the number of sessions in which a set of features occur. Feature usage trends over time may also be determined via analysis. A user interface is described for facilitating selection of one or more features to analyze, for facilitating selection of a group of users, and/or for outputting results corresponding to the analysis.

  • Publication number: 20080313149
Abstract: Described is a technology by which software instrumentation data collected from user program sessions are analyzed to output an analysis report or the like via example methods and an architecture configured for efficient operation. A client component queries a service for analysis related information. To process the query, the service works with a data manager, and via a high dimensional analysis component may use information processed from the software instrumentation data, such as in the form of one or more inverted indexes and/or raw value files. The service may include a usage analysis component, a feature recognition component that locates features from command sequences, a user recognition component and/or a program reliability component. One or more counterpart components at the client may generate analysis reports or the like based on the query results. The client also may maintain user libraries and feature libraries to facilitate analyses.

  • Publication number: 20080282299
Abstract: The present invention provides IP-centric, multi-channel, time-shifted and real-time telecommunications services to a plurality of system users. The system can capture both digital and analog multi-channel feeds and, through a cross-connect layer, can convert the signals to a digital format and subsequently send them to an encoder to be compressed. The encoding process can use a firmware upgradeable software developed to decrease data bitrates while retaining quality of the information at a desired level. The encoded, compressed signals may either be stored on a data-on-demand server for later viewing services, such as television/video-on-demand or audio-on-demand, or may be streamed directly to system users using a Media Streaming Subsystem (MSS). The MSS can be responsive to a system user request and operative to forward a selected stream of compressed digital data to the system user via a gateway means.

  • Patent number: 7447744
Abstract: A method that determines if a sender's message is to be sent to a recipient is presented. A challenge module analyzes the message and sends a challenge message to the sender if the sender is not in the recipient's address store. The challenge message includes a pseudo unique token for the sender recipient pair such that the sender must respond differently to each challenge message for a particular message. In one embodiment, the challenge message requires the sender to obtain a certificate from a certificate authority or a set of authorities.
