  • Publication number: 20080317260
Abstract: A method of distinguishing sound sources includes the step of transforming data, collected by at least two transducers which each react to a characteristic of an acoustic wave, into signals for each transducer location. The transducers are separated by a distance of less than about 70 mm or greater than about 90 mm. The signals are separated into a plurality of frequency bands for each transducer location. For each band a comparison is made of the relationship of the magnitudes of the signals for the transducer locations with a threshold value. A relative gain change is caused between those frequency bands whose magnitude relationship falls on one side of the threshold value and those frequency bands whose magnitude relationship falls on the other side of the threshold value. As such, sound sources are discriminated from each other based, on their distance from the transducers.

  • Publication number: 20060185488
Abstract: A blade assembly for use in a slicing device comprises a plurality of blades and a pair of tension members. Each of the tension members has a plurality of slots formed therein. The tension members are positioned in the assembly such that the slots in one tension member are disposed generally opposite the slots in the other tension member. The tension members are spaced such that a longitudinal end of a blade is received in each of the generally opposite slots, in a manner such that the blades are maintained between the tension members under tension. A retainer is associated with each of the tension members for retaining the blade longitudinal end in the tension member slot. A spacer is provided to maintain the spacing between the tension members, to thereby maintain the tension in the blades.

  • Patent number: 6443609
Abstract: An apparatus for mixing fluids includes a housing which is mounted in line with a conduit carrying a primary fluid. A deformable member is mounted in the housing and an inlet conduit carrying a secondary fluid communicates with the deformable member. An adjustment knob adjusts the width of the deformable member, thereby adjusting the venturi effect created by the deformable member in the flow of primary fluid and adjusting the flow of secondary fluid which flows into the deformable member and is induced out of the deformable member through a plurality of holes to mix with the primary fluid. A system is provided with the fluid inductor apparatus and includes a sensor at the fluid outlet to generate a signal to control the geometric profile of the deformable member to adjust mixing of the fluids.

  • Patent number: 6347146
Abstract: A noise reducing AM receiver has a receiving stage for receiving an AM signal of carrier frequency separated from that in an adjacent channel by a predetermined spacing and that may have a noise component. A detecting stage is coupled to the receiving stage for detecting at least a first portion of the received AM signal. A filter is coupled to the detecting stage for extracting a spectral component from at least a first portion of the received AM signal. A noise detector is coupled to the filter for detecting the presence of a predetermined amount of noise in the spectral component and for providing a blanking control signal in the presence of at least the predetermined amount of noise. A first noise blanker is responsive to the blanking control signal to process at least one portion of the received signal in response to the control signal to reduce the audibility of the noise component.

  • Patent number: 6025011
Abstract: Whole kernel corn is ground and sifted to separate a coarse particle fraction which is then heated with lime and water to a temperature of at least 71.degree. C. and below 100.degree. C., preferably about 99.degree. C. or less, for up to about 15 minutes. A fine particle fraction from the sifting step can be combined with the heat treated coarse fraction. The resulting heat treated mixture is then dried under a vacuum while continuously mixing for at least about 20 minutes to obtain a dried masa flour having a moisture content of about 7% to about 12% by weight. Thereafter, the dried masa flour can be ground while maintaining the temperature below the gelatinization temperature to reduce the particle size of the masa flour without further gelatinization.

  • Patent number: 5752460
Abstract: A submergible towed body system carries an acoustic transmission/reception evice under the surface of the water and relays signals between the acoustic transmission/reception device and a surface platform. An elongated support frame has upper and lower horizontal frame sections maintained in a parallel spaced apart relationship by a plurality of vertical frame supports. A float is attached on top of the upper horizontal frame section and a tow point depends from the upper horizontal frame section. Attached to the upper and lower horizontal frame sections is a combination tilt and pan mechanism that allows the acoustic transmission/reception device to pan through a prescribed horizontal angle and tilt through a prescribed vertical angle. Circuitry is mounted between the upper and lower horizontal frame sections and aft of the tilt and pan mechanism for electrically connecting the surface platform to the acoustic transmission/reception device.
