  • Patent number: 8886362
Abstract: A power forecasting module determines a load forecast of a distribution system (DS) and a power generation forecast of distributed energy resources (DERs) A demand response (DR) module estimates an available DR based on the load and the power generation forecast and modifies the load forecast by dispatching an optimal DR. An energy storage commitment module determines a charging/discharging schedule of energy storage devices in the system based on the modified load profile and generates a second load profile by incorporating the charging/discharging schedule of energy storage devices. An unit commitment (UC) module determines a DER schedule of supplying electrical power to the loads in the second load profile based on a first objective function. An economic dispatch (ED) module determines an optimum operating point for each DER and an Integrated Volt-VAR Control (IVVC) module controls distribution assets to maintain a voltage profile in the system.

  • Publication number: 20140331269
Abstract: A data communication architecture delivers a wide variety of content, including audio and video content, to consumers. The architecture employs channel bonding to deliver more bandwidth than any single communication channel can carry. The architecture includes intermediate network devices that may receive content and send content using different groups of communication channels. The network device may process content received across a first set of communication channels for transmission across a second set of communication channels different from the first set. Such processing may preserve a program order of the content during delivery to a destination device.

  • Publication number: 20140328486
Abstract: Embodiments herein provide analysis and transmission of environmental sounds (e.g., outdoor sounds generated from an environment surrounding an enclosure) to an indoor occupant. Specifically, a sound analyzer is configured to receive a sensor output containing the environmental sounds, and analyze, in real-time, the environmental sounds to determine attributes of each of the environmental sounds. Each attribute is then compared to a collection of known sounds, and classified based on the comparison. The environmental sounds are then output and transmitted to the indoor occupant as at least one of: an audio transmission containing one or more of the environmental sounds, and a display of information about the one or more environmental sounds. The environmental sounds can be broadcast to the indoor occupant in real-time, and/or may be recorded for later analysis and use.

  • Patent number: 8880788
Abstract: In one embodiment, a flash-optimized, log-structured layer of a file system of a storage input/output (I/O) stack executes on one or more nodes of a cluster. The log-structured layer of the file system provides sequential storage of data and metadata on solid state drives (SSDs) to reduce write amplification, while leveraging variable compression and variable length data features of the storage I/O stack. The data may be organized as an arbitrary number of variable-length extents of one or more host-visible logical units (LUNs). The metadata may include mappings from host-visible logical block address ranges of a LUN to extent keys, as well as mappings of the extent keys to SSD storage locations of the extents. The storage location of an extent on SSD is effectively “virtualized” by its mapped extent key such that relocation of the extent on SSD does not require update to volume layer metadata.

  • Patent number: 8878797
Abstract: An analog front end circuit utilizes coherent detection within a capacitance measurement application. The analog front end circuit uses coherent detection to measure capacitance of a touch screen display. An analog excitation signal is modulated by a capacitor to be measured. The modulated signal is synchronously demodulated using a correlator, which includes a discrete mixer and a discrete integrator. The excitation signal is also input to the mixer such that the modulated signal is multiplied by the excitation signal. The excitation signal is an analog signal having a sine wave function or other waveform.

  • Patent number: 8880172
Abstract: Atrial capture threshold testing is performed in accordance with an atrial capture threshold testing schedule. Monitoring for retrograde P-waves occurs at least during times other than times during which scheduled atrial capture threshold testing is performed. In response to detecting a retrograde P-wave indicative of sub-threshold atrial pacing during monitoring, an unscheduled atrial capture threshold test is performed and pacing of the atrium is adjusted based on the unscheduled atrial capture threshold test.

  • Publication number: 20140324825
Abstract: Aspects retrieve, organize and display different classifications of sets of search results in different, respective tabbed sheets that are nested on top of one another in a web-based interface dashboard. A text string search query is classified into constituent primary search terms that are likely to return satisfactory search results as indicated by retrieved search history data as a function of search resources and language classification rules associated with the user identity indicia. Secondary search terms related to the primary search terms and including synonyms and antonyms are determined as substitutes for the primary search terms in response to search history indicating follow-up searches immediately subsequent to searches of the primary search terms at less than a specified threshold of frequency. The set of peripheral knowledge article results is generated by searching knowledge article resources for background information on the primary search terms or the secondary search terms.

  • Publication number: 20140324541
Abstract: A method and associated systems for using real-time online text analytics and real-time online semantic analytics to automatically generate an appropriate measurement scale for a questionnaire, survey, interview, or other information-gathering instrument. The method uses known techniques, procedures, and models of real-time online analytics to infer meaning from a subject's unstructured response to a questioner's solicitation of information. It next uses these results to select one or more measurement scales from a repository of measurement scales and to customize those selected scales into forms appropriate to the researcher's solicitation. The processor then delivers the customized scale or scales to the researcher quickly enough to allow the researcher to use the delivered scales to immediately quantize or otherwise characterize the unstructured response.
