  • Publication number: 20090059785
Abstract: In one embodiment, a network device receives a request from a client in association with a connection, where the request indicates an amount of one or more resources that is requested to support the connection. The network device determines whether the amount of the resources is available. The network device may then allocate a level of the resources to the connection according to whether the amount of the resources is available.

  • Publication number: 20090052412
Abstract: A packet loss reduction system. In particular implementations, a method includes responsive to indications of roaming intent of a wireless client relative to currently associated wireless access point, determining if a traffic stream associated with the wireless client is to be proactively buffered by one or more potential wireless access points; conditionally transmitting a command to the one or more potential wireless access points to cause the potential, wireless access points to set up resources to proactively buffer packets of the traffic stream; duplicating received packets of the traffic stream destined for the wireless client; and transmitting the duplicate packets to the potential wireless access points for storage in a proactive stream buffer.

  • Patent number: 7486658
Abstract: A method and system directed to negotiating and triggering media stream synchronization at the link layer in a QoS-enabled 802.11 WLAN, or other wireless, network. In one implementation, the present invention allows for improved performance of streaming network applications, such as video conferencing, over wireless links. In one implementation, the present invention also provides an optional mechanism whereby a mobile station can signal a need for on-the-fly throttling, if an application on the mobile detects that there is a need for better synchronization of two streams, such as a lower priority stream to a higher priority stream.

  • Patent number: 7468951
Abstract: A method for evaluating number of additional admissible calls for use in call admission control includes tracking a percentage of channel busy time and transmission time of downlink and uplink voice packets, receiving a call admission request, and calculating the number of admissible calls. The number of admissible calls is calculated based on a channel bandwidth requirement determined from the percentage of channel busy time and a voice packet queuing requirement determined from the transmission time of downlink and uplink voice packets. The call admission request is approved if the number of admissible calls is greater than one and rejected if the number of admissible calls is less than one.
