    Abstract: The described embodiments relate to methods and systems for detecting the blockiness of a video signal comprised of a number of pixels. The method includes the steps of determining if the pixel forms a part of at least one visible horizontal transition along a macroblock border, at least one visible vertical transition along a macroblock border, at least one flat area or at least one flat macroblock; calculating a horizontal border transitions count, a vertical border transitions count, a flat area count and a macroblock flat area count; and generating at least one blockiness indicator for the region of interest selected from the group consisting of a block border indicator, a flat area indicator and a flat block indicator, wherein the at least one blockiness indicator is based on at least one of the horizontal border transitions count, the vertical border transitions count, the flat area count and the macroblock flat area count.

    Abstract: The embodiments described herein provide a video router with integrated control layers and a method of operating the same. The video router includes line cards and fabric cards coupled to a controller communication network. The line cards and fabric cards include crosspoint switches and card controllers. Each card controller controls the operation of the corresponding crosspoint switches. Each crosspoint switch includes a plurality of input switch terminals and output switch terminals coupled to a backplane, providing signal communication paths between the line and fabric cards. The configuration of at least some of the crosspoint switches may be controlled by the controller on the same card or on other cards. The video router may include a switch configuration table to track the coupling of input and output terminals through each of the cross-point switches.

Packets that do not require adjustment and the resulting adjusted packets are combined to form one or more output signals corresponding to the one or more input signals.

The step of calculating the total number of pixels in flat blocks and the total number of pixels in visible block edge transitions may include calculating differential values for each pixel in the video signal, analyzing the differential values to determine if the pixel is part of a transition and/or a flat area and then counting the number of pixels in flat blocks and visible block edge transitions to produce a total number of pixels in flat blocks and a total number of pixels in visible block edge transitions.
