  • Patent number: 8918523
Abstract: A graphical user interface (GUI) is disclosed that allows a user to identify routers, communities, residents and media aggregation managers existing on a network. The user may interactively select a path that includes two media aggregation managers and at least one router. The GUI predicts scheduled bandwidth utilization along the selected path for a variety of residents wishing to communicate across the path. The GUI may be utilized for initializing all media aggregation managers on the network along with provisioning each of the routers on the selected path. The GUI provisions all of the routers and initializes all of the media aggregation managers on the selected path simultaneously in order to accomplish the predicted schedule of usage provided by the GUI to the user and force all communication packets communicated between the residents to travel along the selected path.

  • Patent number: 8891963
Abstract: Various signal routing systems are disclosed. Some routing systems include a crosspoint switch or switching fabric for coupling input ports to output ports, allowing an input signal received at one of the input ports to be transported to one or more of the output ports. The systems may include aggregation or compression modules to allow multiple input signals to be combined into one or more compressed signals, which may be converted into optical signals for transmission to a communication network. In some embodiments, the communication network may include a packet switched router which extracts some of the input signals from the optical signals and produced corresponding packetized signals that are coupled to output ports. Some routing system may include only a packet switched router. Some routing systems may be configured to receive compressed or aggregated signals and to decompress or deaggregate such signals to form individual signals as output signals.

  • Patent number: 8883903
Abstract: Preparation of semiconductor nanocrystals and their dispersions in solvents and other media is described. The nanocrystals described herein have small (1-10 nm) particle size with minimal aggregation and can be synthesized with high yield. The capping agents on the as-synthesized nanocrystals as well as nanocrystals which have undergone cap exchange reactions result in the formation of stable suspensions in polar and nonpolar solvents which may then result in the formation of high quality nanocomposite films.

  • Publication number: 20140244854
Abstract: Methods and systems for streaming content from a first device to a second device may include streaming content from the first device to the second device over a first connection. Next, it may be determined that the first device is connected to the second device by a second connection. As a result, content may be streamed from the first device to the second device over the second connection. Further, upon determination that the first device is connected to the second device by the second connection, the first connection between the first device and the second device may be disconnected. Further, streaming of the content is uninterrupted upon switching from the first connection to the second connection. Additionally, a mobile device for streaming content to a second device is also provided.

  • Patent number: 8743943
Abstract: Equalization circuitry for receiving a digital data signal includes both feed-forward equalizer (“FFE”) circuitry and decision-feedback equalizer (“DFE”) circuitry. The FFE circuitry may be used to give the DFE circuitry a signal that is at least minimally adequate for proper start-up of the DFE circuitry. Thereafter, more of the burden of the equalization task may be shifted from the FFE circuitry to the DFE circuitry.

  • Publication number: 20140071999
Abstract: Apparatus, systems and methods for receiving one or more input signals and providing output signals in various video, audio, data and mixed formats are described. One or more input processors receive the input signals. Each of the input processors provides one or more packetized signals corresponding to one or more of the input signals received at the input processor. Each output processor can receive one or more packetized signals and generate one or more output signals. The output signals correspond to one or more of the input signals, additional locally generated signals or data relating to the signals or any combination of such signals. Use of a packet router according to the invention allows input signals encoded as one set of packetized signals to be recombined to provide additional packetized signals incorporating the same or different combinations of the packetized signals.

  • Patent number: 8602196
Abstract: A stair climbing system for moving objects either up or down stairs that entails placing a base and roller assembly in a first position on the stairs, rolling the object over the stationary base and roller assembly, and then advancing the base and roller assembly from a trailing position under the object to an advanced position to continue movement of the object up or down stairs. The base and roller assembly base includes first and second side panels supporting a roller, each having surfaces reacting against the stair step and the stair riser to prevent tilting of the base and roller assembly under the load of the object.

  • Publication number: 20130324846
Abstract: Currently most cancers, including breast cancers, are removed without any intraoperative margin control. Post-operative methods inspect 1-2% of the surgical margin and are prone to sampling errors. The present invention relates to an optical imaging system that will enable evaluation of the surgical margin in vivo and in real-time. The invention provides for simultaneous fluorescence and fluorescence polarization imaging. The contrast of the acquired images will be enhanced using fluorescent agents approved for diagnostic use in patients. As the staining pattern of fluorescence images is similar to that of histology, and the values of fluorescence polarization are significantly higher in cancerous as compared to normal cells, the invention provides for further improvements in diagnostic methods. The systems and methods can be applied to the intra-operative delineation of cancerous tissue.

  • Publication number: 20130262175
Abstract: A ranking system ranks applicants for a job. Eligible applicants are selected from a pool of applicants and are ranked based on business rules applied to information about the eligible applicants and information about the job. Scores are calculated for the business rules based on how well the applicant information matches the job information in areas such job skills, educational background, availability and pay. Additional information such as whether an employer or applicant does not wish to work together, and staffing firm expenses associated with eligible applicants can also be considered in the ranking process. The business rules can be weighted to achieve various ranking objectives, such as increasing staffing firm revenue or awarding higher rankings to applicants whose skills and educational background better match an employer's needs. The ranking system can also be used to rank jobs for an applicant.

  • Patent number: 8416845
Abstract: Methods and circuits for automatic adjustment of equalization are presented that improve the quality of equalization for input signals with varying amplitudes. The methods and circuits may be used in Decision Feedback Equalization (DFE) circuits to maintain a constant equalization boost amplitude despite variations in input signal amplitude. The equalization circuitry measures the amplitude of the equalization input signal and computes tap coefficients to maintain a desired level of boost amplitude. Tap coefficients may be automatically adjusted by the equalization circuitry.
