  • Patent number: 7407592
Abstract: A method and system of ozone treatment diverts a portion of water from a flow of water in a conduit, injects ozone into the portion to provide an ozonated portion, and recombines the ozonated portion with the flow of water in the conduit. Another method and system identifies a species-destructive reaction product of ozone with a water constituent, determines a life of the reaction product, and contacts ozone with a water containing the species for a period determined according to the determined life of the reaction product.

  • Patent number: 7344537
Abstract: An anterior spinal fixation system comprises a plurality of mounting constructs to hold one or more spinal rods or spinal plate-type braces. Each mounting construct includes a bottom plate and a top plate assembly. The bottom plate is attached to the vertebral body with a plurality of anchors, one or more of which may be polyaxial. In one embodiment, the top plate assembly engages the bottom plate through a quick-connect feature that provides simple and secure locking as well as tactile feedback. When the top plate assembly is engaged with the bottom plate, it compresses the rods or braces against the head of the screws, locking the angle of any polyaxial bone screws. In another embodiment, the top plate assembly threadably engages the bottom plate. For additional strength and rigidity, cross-connectors may be used between each pair of mounting constructs when two or more spinal rods are used.

  • Patent number: 7278997
Abstract: An instrument guide and implant holding device is provided which releasably secures an implant to the instrument guide. The device provides a convenient guide for surgeons to perform various operative techniques on the subject bone without the need for separate devices, and allows all these operative techniques to be performed without removing the instrument guide from the dissected area until all operative techniques have been completed. The releasable mechanism allows the surgeon to easily hold the instrument to an implant using a simple press-fit approach, and easily releases from the implant with a minimal amount of force. An embodiment also allows the surgeon to releasably lock the cannula in a given orientation about the centroidal axis of the implant fastener hole.

  • Patent number: 7273562
Abstract: A target biokill of species for water to be discharged from a ballast tank of a sea faring vessel is determined. A diverted portion of sea water is regulated prior to charging the water into the ballast tank. Regulation of the diverted portion of water and a rate of injection of the ozone into the portion are adjusted to attain the target biokill. Then ozone at the determined rate into the regulated diverted portion to attain the target biokill when the portion is recombined into the water for charging to the ballast tank.

  • Publication number: 20070055230
Abstract: Methods and apparatus of embodiments of the invention are adapted to treat tissue inside a patient's body. Aspects of the invention can be used in a wide variety of applications, but certain embodiments provide minimally invasive alternatives for treating atrial fibrillation by delivering a tissue-damaging agent to selected areas of the heart. One exemplary embodiment of the invention provides a method of treating cardiac arrhythmia. This method includes positioning a distal tissue-contacting portion of a body in surface contact with a tissue surface of cardiac tissue; detecting the surface contact between the tissue-contacting portion and the tissue surface; and thereafter, injecting a tissue-ablating agent into the cardiac tissue through the tissue-contacting portion of the body.
