  • Patent number: 9802851
Abstract: The present invention discloses improved methods and apparatus for forming sheet glass. In one embodiment, the invention introduces a counteracting force to the stresses on the forming structure in a manner such that the thermal creep which inevitably occurs has a minimum impact on the glass flow characteristics of the forming structure.

  • Patent number: 9750427
Abstract: Methods, devices, and systems are disclosed for implementing a fully quantitative non-injectable contrast proton MRI technique to measure spatial ventilation-perfusion (VA/Q) matching and spatial distribution of ventilation and perfusion. In one aspect, a method using MRI to characterize ventilation and perfusion in a lung includes acquiring an MR image of the lung having MR data in a voxel and obtaining a breathing frequency parameter, determining a water density value, a specific ventilation value, and a perfusion value in at least one voxel of the MR image based on the MR data and using the water density value to determine an air content value, and determining a ventilation-perfusion ratio value that is the product of the specific ventilation value, the air content value, the inverse of the perfusion value, and the breathing frequency.

  • Publication number: 20170176261
Abstract: Sensing elements and sensing processes are disclosed. The sensing element includes a conductive composite. The conductive composite has an observable property corresponding to an external condition. The sensing element is positioned for changes in the external conditions to be identifiable in a system in response to monitoring of the observable property of the conductive composite by at least a portion of the system. The sensing process includes providing the sensing element having the conductive composite, and monitoring the observable property of the conductive composite corresponding to the external condition. This observable property may be monitored either while the change in external condition is taking place or measured later in the case of a composite material with memory. The sensing element is positioned for changes in the external condition to be identifiable in a system in response to the monitoring of the observable property of the conductive composite by at least a portion of the system.

  • Publication number: 20170129087
Abstract: Improved bits for removal of staples and fabric for re-upholstering, one bit having an elongated shaft, proximal end, and distal working end. The proximal end is for insertion into a power tool. The working end includes a blade wider than the shaft and a plurality of beveled teeth. The bottom section of the tool has a longitudinally cambered bottom surface curved upwardly optimizing the striking, removal action. The blade end is transversely cambered, and converging in depth. The designs create tangential application of forces as opposed to only direct linear application. Another embodiment provides a non-symmetrical bit having a distal working end and chisel-type head that transitions into a curved side section, and an opposing straight angled side section. The bit is longitudinally cambered on the bottom surface, for separating legs of the staple without severing them, or snapping legs off from the staple crown.

  • Patent number: 9643873
Abstract: A method keeps the width of the manufactured sheet substantially the same by attaching edge directors for the formed sheet to the manufacturing apparatus structure instead of to the forming block. Thus, sheet glass may be manufactured to specification for a longer time with the same forming block. An additional method adjusts the width of the manufactured sheet by changing the distance between the edge directors. Thus sheet glass may be manufactured to different width specifications with the same forming block.

  • Publication number: 20160129375
Abstract: A spool valve includes a cylindrical spool body defining porting for control of fluid flow through the spool body, the spool body having pockets on an outer surface and sealing inserts received within the pockets. The sealing inserts and the porting are configured to control fluid flow through the spool valve based on an alignment of the sealing inserts and the porting corresponding to rotational positioning of the spool valve within a valve housing. The spool valve may be incorporated into a filter head of a filter assembly including a first filter and a second filter. Based on the rotational position of the spool valve, the spool valve is configured to block fluid flow to and from one of the filters and permit fluid flow to and from the other of the filters, the sealing inserts providing a seal against the valve housing to prevent leakage from the blocked filter.
