  • Patent number: 9386358
Abstract: Summaries of video programs can be automatically created by identifying and compiling repeated portions of the program content. In many programs (such as broadcasts of sporting events), the most interesting portions of the event are often repeated more than once during the course of the program. By automatically identifying the replayed portions of the video presentation, then, a highlight summary of a television broadcast can be automatically created. Repeated imagery can be automatically identified by comparing metric values representing the contents of video frames. This technique can be implemented within a set top box or other television receiver that is operated by a viewer, thereby providing a high level of flexibility and convenience.

  • Patent number: 9316558
Abstract: A system includes an ignition detection module, a pressure sensor, a pressure variation module, and a pressure sensor diagnostic module. The ignition detection module detects when an engine is started. The pressure sensor generates a first pressure signal indicating a first pressure within a fuel system of the engine when the engine is started and when a purge valve of the fuel system is closed. The pressure variation module determines an amount of variation in the first pressure signal over a first period. The pressure sensor diagnostic module determines a state of the pressure sensor based on the amount of variation in the first pressure signal over the first period.

  • Patent number: 9304055
Abstract: The system utilizes electroscan equipment including a voltage source and current meter with a cable having one end grounded and one end having an electric probe thereon sized to fit within an underground pipe. The probe is able to complete an electric circuit back to ground when the probe is adjacent a defect through which electric currents can pass, thus producing varying electric current. A cable reel is provided with portions of the cable supported thereon and with a cable distance sensor coupled to the reel along with the current meter and voltage source in the form of a battery. The current meter and distance sensor transmit wireless signals to an on-site processor, such as a smartphone, for on-site data evaluation. Such unconditioned data is also transmitted to a remote location for conditioning of the data and retransmission of the conditioned data back to the on-site processor.

  • Publication number: 20150321080
Abstract: A chess game variant includes a wildcard piece that starts play off the playing area and that may be introduced on to the playing area in a space adjacent the king upon occurrence of a pre-defined condition, for example after an officer other than the king is captured for a first time. The movement ability of the wildcard piece may be randomly determined from the movement abilities of other officers, including any non-standard pieces used in the game. A non-standard piece may also be included in the chess game, for example a hybrid piece having a movement ability that is a hybrid of a queen and a knight where the hybrid piece can move in any direction and jump over other pieces but whose movement is restricted to no more than three spaces.

  • Patent number: 9176022
Abstract: A system according to the principles of the present disclosure includes a pressure sensor, a pressure variation module, and a purge flow diagnostic module. The pressure sensor generates a pressure signal indicating a pressure within a fuel system of an engine. The pressure variation module determines an amount of variation in the pressure signal over a period. The purge flow diagnostic module diagnoses a fault associated with flow through a purge valve of the fuel system when the pressure variation amount is less than a threshold.

  • Patent number: 9143740
Abstract: A camera based sewer evaluation vehicle has an electro-scan pipe defect detection system integrated therein. A cable and winch of the camera based system are utilized to support either a camera or an electro-scan probe. A signal transmitted through the cable is passed along for processing of signals received through the cable for final output and analysis, such as on a common computer. To facilitate electro-scan probe based pipe defect detection, a ground rod is utilized. The system can include a funnel plug downstream of the electro-scan probe for interconnection to a haul line and to assist in maintaining a liquid filled status in the pipe adjacent the electro-scan probe. A downstream bypass funnel plug or a blockade of some form can operate within and past a downstream manhole adjacent the pipe to keep the pipe filled with liquid.

  • Patent number: 9038489
Abstract: A control system according to the principles of the present disclosure includes a fuel system diagnostic module and a pump control module. The fuel system diagnostic module performs a diagnostic test on a fuel system when a vacuum pump is switched off to prevent flow through the vacuum pump and thereby seal a portion of the fuel system from an atmosphere. The vacuum pump includes a cam ring, a rotor that rotates within the cam ring, and vanes that slide into and out of slots in the rotor as the rotor rotates. The pump control module switches on the vacuum pump for a predetermined period to force the vanes out of the slots and into contact with the cam ring to seal the vacuum pump before switching off the vacuum pump for the fuel system diagnostic test.

  • Publication number: 20150058529
Abstract: A data storage device includes a non-volatile memory and a controller. A method performed in the data storage device includes sending multiple access requests to a plurality of non-volatile memory devices of the data storage device. The multiple access requests correspond to a command and are associated with a first order. The method further includes receiving a plurality of output data items from the plurality of non-volatile memory devices. The plurality of output data items is based on the multiple access requests and is received in a second order that is different from the first order. The method also includes reordering the plurality of output data items according to the first order.

  • Patent number: 8949491
Abstract: Buffer memory reservation techniques for use with NAND flash memory include dynamically reserving regions of the buffer memory, responsive to a read/write request. Where the read/write request includes a plurality of data transfer requests, following completion of a data transfer request, the reserved buffer space may be recycled for use in a further data transfer request or for other purposes. During fulfillment of a read request, a buffer region is reserved from a larger buffer pool for a time period significantly smaller than the time required to execute a sense operation associated with the read request. The reserved buffer region may be reused for unrelated processes during execution of the sense operation.

  • Patent number: 8935081
Abstract: A system for a vehicle includes a first pressure module and a blockage indication module. The first pressure module receives a signal from a pressure sensor that measures pressure within a fuel vapor purge system. The first pressure module generates a first pressure based on the signal at a first time and generates a second pressure based on the signal at a second time. The second time is after the first time. The blockage indication module indicates whether a blockage is present in the fuel vapor purge system between the pressure sensor and a fuel tank based on a difference between the first and second pressures.

  • Publication number: 20140325971
Abstract: A hydraulic apparatus and a method of controlling the hydraulic apparatus are disclosed. The hydraulic apparatus includes a first pump having a first fixed displacement, a second pump having a second fixed displacement, and a diverter. The diverter includes a first diverter inlet port fluidly coupled to a discharge of the second pump, a first diverter outlet port fluidly coupled to a discharge of the first pump, and a second diverter outlet port fluidly coupled to a low pressure system, the low pressure system having a fluid pressure lower than a fluid pressure of the discharge of the first pump. The diverter is operable to selectively vary fluid communication between the first diverter inlet port and either the first diverter outlet port or the second diverter outlet port based on a reference pressure.

  • Patent number: 8851678
Abstract: In one example of the invention a patient display is provided on which a fixation graphic or video is shown in substantially the center of the display, and then target graphics or video are shown at different positions on the display about the center. A test subject is positioned in front of the patient display a known distance therefrom, and a camera captures an image of the test subject's eyes, to allow gaze direction determination to be performed. The captured images are displayed to a clinician user by a controlling test application, the clinician making a determination based on the images as to whether the test subject saw a target graphic or video when it was displayed. The clinician user then makes an appropriate input into the controlling test application, which also logs the position at which the target image was displayed.
