  • Publication number: 20120253799
Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for generating domain-specific speech recognition models for a domain of interest by combining and tuning existing speech recognition models when a speech recognizer does not have access to a speech recognition model for that domain of interest and when available domain-specific data is below a minimum desired threshold to create a new domain-specific speech recognition model. A system configured to practice the method identifies a speech recognition domain and combines a set of speech recognition models, each speech recognition model of the set of speech recognition models being from a respective speech recognition domain. The system receives an amount of data specific to the speech recognition domain, wherein the amount of data is less than a minimum threshold to create a new domain-specific model, and tunes the combined speech recognition model for the speech recognition domain based on the data.

  • Publication number: 20120253884
Abstract: Systems and techniques for generating item ratings for a user in order to allow for recommendations of selected items for that user. A set of known ratings of different items for a plurality of users is collected and maintained, and these known ratings are used to estimate rating factors influencing ratings, including user and item factors. Initial user and item factors are estimated and new user and item factors are successively added, with the original rating factors being progressively shrunk so as to reduce their magnitude and their contribution to the rating estimation as successive factors are added. When an appropriate number of user and item factors has been estimated, the rating factors are used to estimate ratings of items for a user, and the estimated ratings are employed to generate recommendations for that user.

  • Publication number: 20120080193
Abstract: A running tool for use in handling control modules on a subsea production tree. The running tool is deployable on wire line and includes a column like body and a connector adapted for connection to the production tree. The running tool also includes a hoist system that is selectively positioned by a swiveling jib crane for handling the control modules. A replacement control module can be included with the running tool when the tool is deployed from above the sea surface. After the running tool connects to the production tree, the jib crane can position the hoist for attachment to and removal of an existing control module on the production tree. The hoist can then to attach to and install the replacement control module and can be further manipulated to retrieve the existing control module and stow it onto the body.

  • Publication number: 20120084086
Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, methods and non-transitory computer-readable media for performing speech recognition across different applications or environments without model customization or prior knowledge of the domain of the received speech. The disclosure includes recognizing received speech with a collection of domain-specific speech recognizers, determining a speech recognition confidence for each of the speech recognition outputs, selecting speech recognition candidates based on a respective speech recognition confidence for each speech recognition output, and combining selected speech recognition candidates to generate text based on the combination.

  • Patent number: 8151146
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer-readable medium for predicting the fault-proneness of code units (files, modules, packages, and the like) of large-scale, long-lived software systems. The method collects information about the code units and the development process from previous releases, and formats this information for input to an analysis stage. The tool then performs a statistical regression analysis on the collected data, and formulates a model to predict fault counts for code units of the current and future releases. Finally, the method computes an expected fault count for each code unit in the current release by applying the formulated model to data from the current release. The expected fault counts are used to rank the release units in descending order of fault-proneness so that debugging efforts and resources can be optimized.

  • Patent number: 8001132
Abstract: Systems and techniques for estimation of item ratings for a user. A set of item ratings by multiple users is maintained, and similarity measures for all items are precomputed, as well as values used to generate interpolation weights for ratings neighboring a rating of interest to be estimated. A predetermined number of neighbors are selected for an item whose rating is to be estimated, the neighbors being those with the highest similarity measures. Global effects are removed, and interpolation weights for the neighbors are computed simultaneously. The interpolation weights are used to estimate a rating for the item based on the neighboring ratings, Suitably, ratings are estimated for all items in a predetermined dataset that have not yet been rated by the user, and recommendations are made of the user by selecting a predetermined number of items in the dataset having the highest estimated ratings.

  • Publication number: 20110154067
Abstract: The projected power consumption for an application program running on a future IHS is determined by generating a power proxy for the application program, and power proxies for a plurality of standard benchmarks. An algorithm correlates the power proxy for the application program, and the power proxies for the standard benchmarks to generate weighted surrogates that are combined with power proxies derived from running the benchmark surrogates on the future IHS to generate the projected power consumption.

  • Patent number: 7706155
Abstract: The invention relates to a half-bridge power converter controller that employs current mode control. The power converter controller includes pulse modulation circuitry, error circuitry, and stabilization circuitry. The stabilization circuitry stabilizes the voltage at the mid-point of a half-bridge power converter input capacitor circuit. The input capacitor circuit mid-point voltage is stabilized by selectively adjusting the on-times of the high-side switch and low-side switch of a half-bridge power converter. This adjustment tailors the current that is provided to the input capacitor circuit and thus maintains the mid-point voltage near a desired value.

  • Patent number: 7475264
Abstract: A powerability condition of a computer network, such as the existence of a remotely powerable device attached to a connecting medium of the computer network, is discovered. Such detection can then control whether a remote power source (e.g., a data communications device such as a switch) provides remote power (e.g., phantom power) to the computer network. Apparatus for discovering a powerability condition of a computer network includes a signal generator, a detector and a controller which is coupled to the signal generator and the detector. The controller configures the signal generator to provide a test signal to a connecting medium of the computer network, and configures the detector to measure a response signal from the connecting medium of the computer network. The controller then indicates whether a remotely powerable device connects to the connecting medium of the computer network based on the response signal.

  • Publication number: 20080302870
Abstract: A system and method for passenger identity verification. The system has at least one check in system with a barcode reader and a biometric data collection device. When a passenger checks in, a barcode is placed on the passenger's boarding documents, the barcode is read, and biometric data is collected from the passenger. The system stores the data in a database of a server such that the barcode data is associated with the biometric data. The system further contains at least one checkpoint verification system with a bar code reader and a biometric data collection device. When the passenger arrives at the verification system, the barcode is read and biometric data is collected from the passenger. Biometric data is retrieved from the database using the bar code read by the verification system and the biometric data retrieved from the server is compared with the data collected by the verification system.

  • Patent number: 7433744
Abstract: A technique and associated software for spatially coordinating, storing, and manipulating computer aided Design (CAD) files with a master dimensional plan (MDP) file (FIG. 1, MPD File, Plan, Electrical, Structural, etc.). The plan, elevation, section, and other related files are coordinated to a single unified spatial layout referenced to the MDP file. Special “tools” are used to design, manipulate and present the information as two-dimensional drawings referenced in the working space to the MDF file. Moving between the CAD drawing files coordinated to the MDP is facilitated by using icons corresponding to standard architectural graphic symbols as switch file icons that switch the user to other view files of the displayed object based on the selected graphic symbol. The technique allows the user who is familiar with standard architectural nomenclature to move through CAD drawing files without needing to know the underlying CAD file structure.
