  • Patent number: 8482412
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method and apparatus for reducing time expended on non-value added tasks during assembly of an aircraft is provided. A RFID tag reading function of a RFID tag reader integrated into user apparel is enabled. The RFID tag reader comprises a set of touch activation components integrated into the user apparel. A touch activation component in the set of touch activation components is pressed against a surface in proximity of a RFID tag associated with an aircraft component. The RFID tag reader transmits an interrogate signal to an RFID tag associated with the aircraft component. The user observes a display device coupled to the RFID tag reader integrated into the user apparel, wherein the display device displays RFID tag information received from the RFID tag in response to the interrogate signal. The RFID tag information comprises data describing the aircraft component. The user receives the RFID tag information without interrupting an assembly task.

  • Patent number: 8423318
Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing information about an object. A location on the object is identified. An association between the location on the object and a number of points in a point cloud for the object is identified. The number of points in the point cloud is associated with a number of parts for the object. The location on the object is associated with the number of parts for the object based on the association of the location on the object with the number of points in the point cloud. An identification of the number of parts associated with the location on the object is presented on a graphical user interface on a display system. Information for the location on the object in a number of types of media is identified. The information for the location on the object is associated with the location on the object.

  • Patent number: 8346509
Abstract: A method for performance monitoring in a computing system is described. In some embodiments, an addressable memory stores data and instructions for performing context switch sampling. A processor includes hardware event counters, and is coupled with the addressable memory to access said instructions and in response to said instructions, the processor counts occurrences of a first hardware event in a first hardware event counter and counts occurrences of a second hardware event in a second hardware event counter. After a specified number of occurrences of the first hardware event have been counted, the second hardware event counter is sampled and hardware event counters are reset. In some embodiments the processor counts occurrences of segment register load events in the first hardware event counter and then records the sampled second hardware event counter value with a process identifier value and/or a thread identifier value.

  • Patent number: 8321646
Abstract: A method for a storage controller to rebalance storage components within a storage tier is provided. The method maintains a linked list for each component, and each component includes a plurality of pages. Each linked list is ordered according to hot and cold pages and includes an identifier for each page. The method calculates a percent range of hot and cold pages for each component, and identifies a fullest and least full component. The method compares a random percent to the hot and cold percent ranges for the fullest component. If the random percent falls within the hot range, the method moves a selected hot page from the fullest component to an empty page in the least full component. If the random percent falls within the cold range, the method moves a selected cold page from the fullest component to an empty page in the least full component.

  • Patent number: 8185777
Abstract: A network storage appliance is disclosed. The appliance includes a chassis enclosing a backplane, and a server enclosed in the chassis and coupled to the backplane. The appliance also includes storage controllers enclosed in the chassis, each coupled to the backplane, which control transfer of data between the server and storage devices coupled to the storage controllers. The storage controllers also control transfer of data between the storage devices and computers networked to the appliance and external to the appliance. The storage controllers and the server comprise a plurality of hot-replaceable blades. Any one of the plurality of blades may be replaced during operation of the appliance without loss of access to the storage devices by the computers. In one embodiment, the server executes storage application software, such as backup software for backing up data on the storage devices, such as to a tape device networked to the server.

  • Publication number: 20110252218
Abstract: A method for a storage controller to write a data block to one of a plurality of storage components is provided. The storage controller receives a write request from a host computer, and determines at least a portion of the data block includes a Logical Block Address (LBA) that is not currently mapped to a physical page of storage. The storage controller calculates availability for each storage component within the plurality of storage components, and selects the storage component with a highest calculated availability from the plurality of storage components. The storage controller next determines a next available physical page within the selected storage component. Finally, the storage controller writes the at least a portion of the data block including LBAs that are not currently mapped to a physical page of storage to the next available physical page.

  • Patent number: 7778794
Abstract: A system and method are provided in which an element of a structure may be reliably identified. For example, a system may include a part selection element configured to interact with at least one positional marker having a predefined location. The part selection element is also configured to select at least a portion of a structure, with the structure being positioned at a predetermined location and orientation. The part selection element may also be configured to identify a depth within the structure. The system also includes a computing device configured to identify an element of the structure based upon the position and orientation of the part selection element and the portion of the structure selected by the part selection element. In instances in which a depth is identified, the computing device may also be configured to identify the element of the structure at the depth identified within the structure.
