  • Patent number: 6947738
Abstract: A multimedia messaging system for sending and receiving multimedia MMS messages. The MMS messages are sent to a MMS server and addressed to the recipient's MSISDN number. MMS server sends a notification to a PAP server that sends the notification as a WAP Push to the recipient mobile device telling the mobile device to retrieve the message. If the recipient mobile device is engaged in an on going or dedicated session with the Internet, the notification is sent to the recipient mobile device during the session. The recipient mobile device then initiates a HTTP GET request to retrieve the multimedia message via the voice or data channel of a PLMN. If the recipient mobile device is not engaged in an on going or dedicated session with the Internet, the notification is sent to the recipient mobile device as a WAP Push using SMS as bearer via the signaling channel of the PLMN. The recipient mobile device then initiates a HTTP GET request to retrieve the multimedia message via the voice or data channel of the PLMN.

  • Publication number: 20040260816
Abstract: In one embodiment, there is disclosed a system and method for providing access to an IP number or a subscriber identity number associated with a mobile device in a network, the method comprising associating a mobile device with a subscriber identity number; generating a temporary IP number for the mobile device; linking the subscriber identity number with the temporary IP number; storing the subscriber identity number and the temporary IP number in a database; and providing a pull application program interface to extract from the database either the subscriber identity number or the IP address for mobile device when requested by an application program.

  • Patent number: 6775262
Abstract: A system and method for associating an MSISDN of a mobile terminal with a temporarily assigned IP address is disclosed. A first server located within a wireless communications network generates and transmits a start packet to a WAP network responsive to an access request by a mobile terminal. The start packet includes the MSISDN of the mobile terminal and an assigned IP address. A second server within the WAP network extracts the MSISDN in the IP address from the received start packet and stores this information together within a database. When a WAP application is utilized, the MSISDN may be determined from the database and placed in an HTTP-header of packets to the WAP application.

  • Publication number: 20040052233
Abstract: Data communication system and a method in a data communication system comprising a terminal (2), e.g. a mobile phone, adapted to communicate with an application server (4) using a wireless transmission protocol, preferably WAP, including a terminal profile. The wireless transmission protocol also includes an attached device's profile that is dynamically updated with data related to a device (12) attached to the terminal.

  • Patent number: 6545988
Abstract: A method and apparatus for setting up a data communication connection to a mobile terminal (terminal B). The calling terminal (terminal A) sends a connection request to a connecting means in the mobile telecommunications network. The connecting means transmits a paging signal to terminal B. Terminal B responds by originating a call to terminal A so that a connection is set up through the network without passing the connecting means. The content information (e.g. voice data) between the two terminals is sent and received without the extra time delay associated with passing through the connecting means, which occurs when the content information must be sent via the connecting means. Also, the connecting means is used more efficiently, since it is not burdened with receiving, processing, and transmitting a relatively large amount of content information from the many connections established between terminals.

  • Patent number: 6385650
Abstract: A system has a number of managing systems managing a number of managed systems including a number of managed objects of one or more different types representing resources. The managed objects are arranged in a management information tree structure. Type data on managed objects is stored and algorithms are used to provide information on mapping between managed objects and resources and/or information about sub-trees of the naming tree.

  • Patent number: 6275692
Abstract: A mobile station operating in a cellular communication network requests service from a server coupled to the cellular communication network. Within the mobile station is composed a request for service including a code for use by the server in determining operational capabilities of the mobile station. The request for service is then sent from the mobile station to the server. The server uses the code to determine operational capabilities of the mobile station, and then provides a level of service to the mobile station commensurate with the operational capabilities of the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 5930701
Abstract: A calling party directory number associated with a terminating call towards a unreachable mobile station is stored at a home location register (HLR) associated with the unreachable mobile station. Thereafter, the HLR receives an indication from a particular mobile switching center (MSC) that the mobile station is now reachable. In response to such an indication, the HLR retrieves the previously stored calling party directory number and transmits the retrieved directory number to the reachable mobile station using unstructured messages. By displaying the transmitted number, the mobile station is able to inform the mobile subscriber of the attempted incoming calls received while the mobile station was either turned off or out of the service area.
