Abstract: A method and apparatus for obtaining a real time media stream provided as a plurality of media fragments from a plurality of remote nodes in a communications network is described. Media fragments are requested from the plurality of remote nodes. A series of media fragments is received from at least one of the plurality of remote nodes. A selection criterion is determined for identifying the series of data fragments, and a blocking request is sent to at least one other of the plurality of remote nodes, the blocking request instructing the at least one other node to block the media fragments satisfying the selection criterion from being sent.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for obtaining a real time media stream provided as a plurality of media fragments from a plurality of remote nodes in a communications network. A first series of media fragments satisfying a first selection criterion is requested from a first remote node and a further series of media fragments satisfying a further different selection criterion is requested from at least one further remote node. When combined, the first series of fragments and the further series of fragments provide the complete media stream.

Abstract: A method and arrangement for providing updated information on the availability of multimedia options to terminal users. A first terminal (A) is initially engaged in a voice call with a second terminal (B) by using a first access (100) admitting simultaneous multimedia communication. At least one available multimedia option (104,106) is indicated based on capabilities of the first and second terminals. A change of connection is then detected from the first access to a second access (200) not admitting simultaneous multimedia communication. In response thereto, a multimedia disabling notification is sent to the second terminal, and said at least one multimedia option is indicated as being no longer available (204,206). Preferably, the multimedia disabling notification is sent as an SMS message.

Abstract: A method and arrangement for enabling access to a home device in a private network from a remote device located outside the private network. The private network includes a multimedia gateway connected to a multimedia service network. A session invite message is sent from the remote device to the multimedia gateway. In response, connection parameters of a residential gateway in the private network are sent to the remote device, which are associated with the selected home device if a home device identification was included in the received message, or with a proxy function in the multimedia gateway capable of providing home device information, if no such identification was included in the received message. In this way, home devices in the private network can be easily and safely accessed remotely.

Abstract: Method and arrangement for supporting connectivity of a wireless device to a network infrastructure. An infrastructure provider associates a set of device identification numbers to a first radio access provider in a subscription database of the infrastructure provider. The infrastructure provider also sets the first radio access provider as a preferred roaming partner in a SIM that comprises a subscriber identifier with a network identifier of the infrastructure provider. The SIM is provided for use in the device, to enable access to the network infrastructure over a radio access network of the first radio access provider based on the subscriber identifier and the preferred roaming partner in the SIM.

Abstract: A method and arrangement for controlling a multimedia communication session between a first terminal and a second terminal, the session being divided into a circuit-switched part and a packet-switched part. A notification on an event occurring in one of said circuit-switched and packet-switched parts is received in a common session server. The session server then reports to the other part of the communication session about said event, such that said other part can be controlled in response to said event.

Abstract: A method and arrangement for conveying selected media content from a sending entity (A) to a receiving terminal (B) when the sending entity sends the media content for immediate delivery over IP. A session manager detects that the receiving terminal is unable to receive the selected multimedia content by immediate delivery over IP. A format converter (308,608) converts the media content into a format adapted for deferred delivery involving temporary storage of the media content in an intermediate messaging center (310,610), and sends the converted media content to the messaging center for deferred delivery to the receiving terminal. The session manager and the format converter are both implemented in an originating multimedia service network (300,600) serving the sending entity, or in a terminating multimedia service network (302,602) serving the receiving terminal.

Abstract: Method and arrangement in a home gateway (202) of a local network (200) for providing registration in an external multimedia services network (IMS) for one or more local devices present in the local network. When a local registration request is received (2:2) from a first local device (A), a mapping or association of a corresponding identification of the first local device to a first public identity which is valid in the multimedia services network, is stored (2:3) in the home gateway. The first public identity is then registered (2:4) together with the identification of the first local device in the multimedia services network for the first local device. Any incoming call or session request referring to the first public identity will be directed by the multimedia services network to the first local device. Thereby, the home gateway can be made less complex.

Abstract: Method and arrangement in a home gateway (302) of a local network (300) for providing a media object according to a search request from a first local device (304). The media object is obtained from a peer-to-peer network by converting the search request into a peer-to-peer search request, and the media object is then fetcher by means of a peer-to-peer technique. A local media reference (URL) defined for the obtained media object is sent to the first device. When a media object request containing the local media reference is received from the first local device or from a second local device which has been selected as media renderer, the media object is delivered using the received local media reference. There by, users of devices in the local network can access content from outside the local network.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for controlling an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) system by gestures on a remote control involve determining a number of fingers touching a screen of the remote control; identifying at least one characteristic of movement by the fingers; based on the number determined and at least one characteristic identified, finding a corresponding predefined gesture in a set of predefined gestures; and based on the gesture found, generating a corresponding control command to be sent to the IPTV system.

Abstract: A method of selecting and controlling an electronic device by gestures on a remote control includes determining a number of fingers touching a screen of the remote control; based on the number determined, setting an address context corresponding to the electronic device; identifying a gesture made by the fingers on the screen; and based on the gesture identified, generating a corresponding command to be sent to the electronic device corresponding to the set address context.

Abstract: A method of generating on a display device an electronic program guide for broadcast channels. Electronic program guide information for a plurality of broadcast channels is received at an electronic terminal from a broadcast media server. The electronic program guide information includes live video streams and/or snapshot pictures from programs that are presently being broadcast on a plurality of broadcast channels. A graphical arrangement of a plurality of objects is generated on the display device. Each of the objects is associated with a different one of the broadcast channels. The live video stream and/or the snapshot picture from the program that is presently being broadcast on the associated broadcast channel is displayed on a defined surface of each of the associated objects. A three-dimensional graphical arrangement may be generated from the objects.

Abstract: Methods, electronic terminals, and systems are disclosed for controlling the display of video streams on an electronic terminal. A plurality of the video streams are received at the electronic terminal from the media server. The received video streams are displayed in an ordered set of elements on a display device of the electronic terminal. A user selection of at least a first one of the elements is received. Commands are communicated, responsive to the user selection, from the electronic terminal to the media server to control the quality of service of the video streams that are displayed in each of the non-selected elements in response to their respective location within the ordered set of elements relative to the selected first element.

Abstract: A multimedia gateway for enabling a remote device to access a local device located in a private network via a residential gateway of the private network is provided. The multimedia gateway includes: connecting means for connecting to the private network and a multimedia service network, first receiving means for receiving authentication information from the remote device over the private network, storing means for storing the authentication information in a memory, second receiving means for receiving a session invite message from the remote device over the multimedia service network, the session invite message including authentication information, and authenticating means for authenticating the remote device by determining whether or not the authentication information included in the session invite message has been stored in the memory by the storing means.

Abstract: A communication system is adapted to provide access to application information on an application server utilizing a specific one of multiple radio access types. Access is provided via an access network using an access bearer. The capability of the specifically requested access bearer is sent to the application server to tailor the application information content according to the capability of the specific access bearer. The information content is then transmitted to the requesting device.

Abstract: A method for web service handling in peer-to-peer communication is provided. A web service (412-1) associated with a web service identity e.g. a URI is arranged in a first mobile node (410). Unique identification information is formed by combining the web service identity with a unique circuit switched identifier of the mobile node, such as the E.164 number. The unique identification information is transmitted to a registration unit (440) and registered together with location information that enables for other mobile nodes (420) to find the web service. The location information may for example comprise the current IP address of the first mobile node and the port number for the web service at this node, or relate to an intermediate device used to reach the web service at the first mobile node.

Abstract: A method, a system, a server, and a computer program product are provided for Multimedia Capability discovery of different user terminals. Unnecessary use of the radio interface is avoided based on a network storage, which is accessible without registration to find out about the calling as well as the called user's multimedia capabilities during a voice call. If there is a positive capability discovery result out of this for both users, the system sends a message to each of the user terminals that they should notify the users, e.g., by displaying an icon above a soft button. There is no need for establishing a packet switched session, which uses a lot of radio interface signalling, until the Multimedia Service capability of both subscribers and their user terminals is investigated and responded to both user terminals and their users.
