  • Publication number: 20090143742
Abstract: A securement system for anchoring a medical article to a patient includes a pliant holding device. The device has a body and a plurality of tentacles extending from the body. The tentacles compress and may conform around at least a portion of the medical article to form a secure mount. The holding device may also cushion the medical article and protect the site of attachment on the patient while promoting air circulation. The holding device may include a support and a hinge so that the holding device may be swung away from the medical article to provide easy access for a medical provider.

  • Publication number: 20090137962
Abstract: A gel pad for use with a retainer for securing a medical article. The gel pad is formed from a soft, tacky elastomer. A first surface of the gel pad is placed in contact with a patient's skin. A second surface that faces in an opposite direction away from the first surface receives the retainer. The retainer has a channel configured to retain at least a portion of the medical article. In some embodiments, a securement member is employed to affix the retainer relative to the patient. A securement system including the gel pad and retainer is further disclosed along with a method of securing a medical article to a patient.

  • Patent number: 7532008
Abstract: A material having magnetic permeability at r.f. frequency, for example a microstructured magnetic material has a magnetic permeability of negative value but unity magnitude over a particular r.f. frequency range. The singularity in the flux pattern has the result that magnetic resonant disturbances in a plane C,E normal to the line C,D are focussed into a plane D,F also normal to the line C,D and vice versa. This is particularly applicable to magnetic resonance apparatus, since the material can be used to transfer the r.f. magnetic flux distribution in a target region in a patient, for example at C,E to D,F where the flux may be directly measured by receive coils. Equally, transmit coils may generate flux to be focussed into the target region by the material. Magnetic resonance apparatus may be constructed which does not require gradient coils, and r.f. hypothermia may be carried out in a focussed way, minimising damage to surrounding tissue.

  • Publication number: 20090110632
Abstract: There is provided by the invention a modified antibody molecule which selectively binds to a specific target, the antibody molecule being modified at, at least one amino acid residue that forms part of a glycosylation site in the variable region of an unmodified parent antibody molecule, characterised in that the modified antibody is not glycosylated at the previous glycosylation site of which the amino acid modification forms part and the modified antibody exhibits a greater binding affinity for the specific target than the unmodified parent antibody molecule. There is also provided nucleotide sequences, amino acid sequences and expression vectors encoding the modified antibodies, and uses thereof.

  • Publication number: 20090054174
Abstract: The current invention is a golf putter designed to be held by only one hand in order to achieve the ability to produce a pure pendulum motion. The pure pendulum motion has many advantages and solves problems encountered with the conventional two hand putting method. The shaft diameter is large enough to be gripped comfortably by one hand, anywhere along the shaft, and held against the arm, so that the arm and putter move in unison as a pendulum whose pivot point is the joint of the golfer's upper arm and shoulder. The golfer can move the putter in a coplanar motion similarly to a pure pendulum. The striking face of the putter may be set and maintained perpendicular to the target line, thereby solving the variable face angle problem attendant putting with two arms. Other putting errors are eliminated. The putter also works with two hands.

  • Publication number: 20080306993
Abstract: A display apparatus for displaying accumulated data items includes obtaining means for obtaining a plurality of data items accumulated, classifying means for classifying the plurality of data items into N groups on the basis of predetermined criteria, display-control means for controlling an indication on a display unit such that the plurality of data are displayed in N display regions corresponding to the N groups, and accepting means for accepting a specification of one display region from among the N display regions. When the accepting means accepts a specification of one display region from among the N display regions, the classifying means classifies a plurality of data items displayed in the specified display region into a further N groups, and the display-control means controls an indication on the display unit such that the plurality of data items are displayed in the N display regions corresponding to the N groups.

  • Publication number: 20080288247
Abstract: A method for detecting the presence or absence of an audio signal in a communications system in which an audio signal is encoded by a delta modulation encoding algorithm, and in which a step size parameter is adapted according to characteristics of the encoded signal, the method comprising determining based on the magnitude of the step size parameter whether the encoded signal represents audio activity, and adapting the operation of the communication system based on that determination.

  • Publication number: 20080051791
Abstract: A bone plate(s) of complex form is provided, particularly suited to tibial plateau-leveling osteotomy and a distal femoral osteotomy. The bone plate has a main longitudinal axis, a bone-contacting bottom side (not shown) and a top side with at least three sets of overlapping holes which communicate through the plate from the top to the bottom side. The sets of overlapping holes define threaded apertures having multifaceted surfaces. When applied to a bone, two sets of such overlapping holes are located so as to lie on opposite sides of an osteotomy site and on the tibial plate; a third is aligned at approximately 60 degrees with the longitudinal axis. The configuration of this complex bone plate vary, depending on the physiology of the patient. An object of the invention is to provide an orthopaedic surgeon greater flexibility of choice in that a threaded peg providing secure fixing can be positioned at any interval along the bone plate, including at its extreme ends or on its elbow.
