Abstract: A method for determining and/or engineering photosynthetic mutant algal strains comprising: (A) pre-screening wild-type or parent strains to select for photosynthetic efficiency; (B) cause genetic mutations in the group of wild-type and/or parent strains from pre-screening (A) to form genetic mutant strains; (C) screening the genetic mutant strains for photosynthetic efficiency in mass cultures; and (D) further screening the genetic mutants resulting from screening (C) by measuring biomass productivity to select strains having relatively high biomass/lipid/starch productivity.

Abstract: Devices, systems and methods are disclosed which relate to incorporating a fax machine function into a mobile device. A camera on the mobile device is used to scan or capture an image of an existing document. Logic on the mobile device converts the image into a fax transmittal that can be transmitted to a fax machine. Once the fax transmittal is ready, a connection is initiated with a traditional fax machine across one or more networks, and the fax transmittal is sent to the fax machine at a speed determined by the slower device. Upon a successful transmission, the connection is terminated, and a report is generated.

Abstract: A method and a relay service node to facilitate establishment of a secure connection between a first node within a restrictive access network, and a second node, the method accepting a control connection from the first node; accepting a second connection from the second node, and receiving, over the second connection, a message requesting secure connection establishment with the first node and providing an identifier for the first node; sending, over the control connection, a connection attempt request to establish a third connection from the first node; accepting the third connection from the first node; binding the second connection with the third connection; and forwarding the message requesting secure connection establishment with the first node to the first node.

Abstract: A catheter for use in a urine collection system has a hollow tube forming a suprapubic section (1), a bladder section (2) and a urethral section (3). There are drainage holes in the bladder section (2) and optionally either or both of an abdominal stop (5) and a non-return cuff (6) on the bladder section (2) which holds the catheter in place. There may also be a valved drainage section (31) extruding from the suprapubic section (1) to a drainage outlet (32), or a urine collection bag (35). The drainage section (31) and/or the suprapubic section (1) may have a pH sensor therein. There may also be a urine collection container (12) connected to the suprapubic section (1) the connection forming a closed valve-free fluid flowpath from the bladder section to the urine collection container and from the urine collection container to the bladder section, whereby the urine collection container provides a low pressure reservoir.

Abstract: An elevated tiltable storage assembly for the storage and retrieval of goods. The tiltable storage assembly includes a stationary frame structure for mounting to a wall and a tiltable frame structure pivotally connected to the bottom of the stationary frame. The tiltable frame has a storage structure for holding goods. A windable strap extends between the top of the stationary frame and the top of the tiltable frame. An activatable power assembly operates to wind and unwind the strap to rotate the tiltable frame from a storage to a retrieval position to provide access to the goods.

Abstract: A suprapubic urethral catheter has a hollow tube with a suprapubic section (1), a bladder section (2) and a urethral section (3). An abdominal stop (5) is slidably mounted on the suprapubic section (1), and the bladder section (2) has drainage eyeholes (4) which enable urine from the bladder to drain into the catheter. A non-return cuff (6) is mounted on the bladder section between the drainage eyeholes (4) and the abdominal stop, the non-return cuff (6) having a projecting portion projecting outwards from the tube, being deformable towards the tube and resisting deformation away from the tube. The cuff (6) allows the catheter to be inserted into a suprapubic track in the abdominal wall of a user, but once the cuff has entered the bladder, the projecting portion prevents retrograde movement of the catheter out of the suprapubic track.

Abstract: A rotary vane type actuator includes a vane assembly for converting pressure from a pressurised medium within the actuator into rotational movement. The vane assembly has a rotatable vane and a vane seal for preventing leakage of pressurised medium through or around the vane assembly. A side-plate is attached to the rotatable vane and the side-plate has a limiting protrusion that abuts the vane to maintain a gap between the vane and the side-plate so that the seal in the gap is not extruded from between the vane and side-plate.

Abstract: A motorized bicycle storage and retrieval assembly for loading, storing and unloading bikes. The storage assembly is mountable within or to the top of existing bicycle storage racks. The storage assembly has a frame, a lower track, an upper track and a motor assembly and windable cable interconnects the lower and upper trolley track. The upper track has front and rear bike wheel securement structures which secure a bike to the upper track. A plate assembly is provided to pivot the upper trolley track with respect to the lower trolley track to load and unload bikes. The motorized assembly includes a gear reduction device, a brake device, a wound cable and a switch mechanism to operate the bicycle storage assembly. Further, a safety mechanism is provided to lock the upper track to the lower track.

Abstract: Metals for use in glass-making furnaces and which are susceptible to oxidation at furnace operating temperatures, especially iridium or molybdenum, are protected by applying at least (200) microns thickness of a coating formed of metal oxide particles in a metal oxide matrix. Oxidation, measured by weight loss, is significantly reduced.

Abstract: Part of the surface of a metallic-oxide refractory ceramic part, such as a fusion-cast refractory block, is treated using a high energy beam, to remove portions of the surface. A metal film may then be sprayed onto the treated surface of the ceramic part, for example to provide protection against erosion/corrosion in glass furnaces. Excellent adhesion between metal and ceramic can be attained.

Abstract: A venous refill testing system includes a sensor for sensing patient blood volume at a testing location along a patient's leg during and after dorsiflexion of the patient's foot, and a controller unit having means for automatically determining a time of cessation of dorsiflexion of the patient's foot and for automatically evaluating whether a venous refill time following the time of cessation of dorsiflexion of the patient's foot is less than approximately twenty seconds. The sensor is operably connected to the controller unit, and the controller unit can be actuated to initiate sensing of patient blood volume with the sensor.
