  • Patent number: 5952743
Abstract: A linear permanent magnet electric motor whose poles are extended by pole-pieces of high permeability material to provide the armature or moving element of the assembly. Two groups of two windings are positioned symmetrically about the nominal geometric center of each of the pole-pieces and hence nominal center of magnetic saliency. Thus, the device is capable of being a combined motor and position sensor as well as a device capable of combining linear velocity and linear position sensing.

  • Patent number: 5943015
Abstract: The present invention provides a layered antenna (otherwise known as a flat-plate antenna) having a number of radiating elements (201), each radiating element comprising a first substantially rectilinear aperture (210), having a first pair of oppositely directed probes (220,222) extending into an area defined by the aperture with secondary apertures (212,214) arranged coextensive with and on opposite sides of the primary aperture, adjacent said first pair of probes, said secondary apertures operable to modify the beamwidth in a plane coextensive with said first pair of probes. There is also provided a method of receiving and transmitting signals by means of a layered antenna of this construction.

  • Patent number: 5729237
Abstract: A layered antenna having a linear array of radiating elements 11 is disclosed. Each radiating element comprises an aperture with one or more probes 16,18 which extend into the area defined by the aperture. The elements are deformed about an axis parallel with a longitudinal axis of the linear array to provide beam control. A method of manufacture is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4108294
Abstract: A rotary fluid coupling which is particularly suitable for connecting a stationary source of fluid pressure to a fluid-pressure operated clutch comprises inner and outer, concentric, relatively rotatable members which have a space between them constituting a generally annular chamber for receiving pressurized fluid. The chamber is sealed to prevent the leakage of fluid by a releasable sealing mechanism which is itself fluid-pressure operated. Passages extend through the two members to connect the chamber to the stationary and rotary fluid lines. Preferably, the inner member rotates relative to the outer member which may be held relatively stationary against rotation.

  • Patent number: 4054770
Abstract: Transverse flux heating of strip material is effected with a flux distribution having a low value near the margins of the strip and rising substantially uniformly inwardly from the margins to a central peak value for narrow strip or two peaks with a central lower flux region for wider strip. Constructions of pole pieces to achieve the required flux distribution are described.

  • Patent number: 3978204
Abstract: A process for preparing a cosmetic blotting paper toweling composition for the skin consisting essentially of a flexible solid blotting paper toweling support having a multiplicity of mechanical pressure rupturable, cosmetic containing microcapsules, which are homogeneously distributed therein, comprises dispersing the microcapsules in a liquid blotting paper paste phase at a time when the liquid blotting paper paste phase has a density close to that of the microcapsules so that the microcapsules are homogeneously distributed therein and solidifying the liquid phase to produce said cosmetic composition.
