  • Patent number: 8661031
Abstract: A method for determining the significance of a web page, or a portion thereof, is disclosed. Accordingly, a search engine or some other application analyzes user-generated highlights (as well as user-provided comments associated with the highlights) of a document to determine a document relevance score (e.g., Highlight Rank) for the document containing the user-generated highlights. The particular algorithm for determining the document relevance score will vary depending upon the particular implementation, but may generally be based upon an analysis of the number and quality of user-generated highlights and associated comments within a document. Based on this analysis, the search engine assigns the document a document relevance score, which is used for processing the document in accordance with instructions associated with a search query. For example, the document relevance score may be used in selecting and ordering documents returned in search results for a particular search query.

  • Patent number: 8660818
Abstract: A method of performing systemic diagnostics for a wafer includes selecting a design for manufacturability (DFM) rule for analysis. For each IC chip on the wafer, two sets of IC features adjacent the rule can be extracted based on the chip's layout design. Upconverted diagnostics can be run to generate computed numbers associated with combination categories for each set. Zonal analysis can be run on the two sets using the computed numbers to derive metrics for the two sets. A report can be generated based on the zonal analysis.

  • Patent number: 8654902
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for computing soft information for digital information based on a received signal, where the received signal suffers from noise and interference. A receiver that decodes the received signal may estimate channel information, such as the channel gain, associated with the interfering source. The receiver may also obtain modulation information through a backbone network or by decoding control information transmitted by the interfering source. Using the modulation information and the channel information, the receiver may estimate the effect that interference has on the received signal, and may compute soft information (e.g., a log-likelihood ratio) for the digital information.

  • Patent number: 8654910
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for computing soft information at a receiver having a plurality of receive antennas. The receiver may be a mobile station or a base station, and can receive a signal vector that includes an intended signal from a first source as well as interfering signals from one or more other, interfering sources. The receiver can determine modulation information, such as the modulation scheme, used by each of the interfering sources. The mobile station can also estimate channel information, such as channel gain information, associated with each interfering source. Using the modulation and channel information, the receiver can compute soft information, such as a log-likelihood ratio. In some embodiments, the receiver can adaptively determine which interference sources and which receive antennas to use when computing the soft information.

In one embodiment, a device for filtering liquid includes a feed chamber, a permeate chamber, and a porous membrane that is at least partially hydrophobic and has one or more pores configured to be permeable to vapor. A pressure of a liquid substance in the feed chamber is increased such that vapor of the liquid substance is transported from the feed chamber to the permeate chamber. The resistance of flow in a hydrophilic layer of the membrane can be controlled to make the membrane defect-tolerant. In another embodiment, a second porous membrane is further included and the second porous membrane is spaced apart from the first porous membrane. Various methods for filtering liquid are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20140043987
Abstract: A method measures a resident delay for each port in a node in a network and a peer delay between each pair of neighbor nodes in the network. From these resident delays and peer delays, latency between each pair of neighbor nodes in the network is determined. The method includes weighting a route for a data packet going through the nodes in the network using the determined latencies. Each node includes a switch having switchable connections and is configured by a controller to send probe packets from an output port to a port in a neighbor node. The packet may include a time stamp and an identifier.

  • Patent number: 8644611
Abstract: A method for text recognition includes generating a number of text hypotheses for an image, for example, using an HMM based approach using fixed-width analysis features. For each text hypothesis, one or more segmentations are generated and scored at the segmental level, for example, according to character or character group segments of the text hypothesis. In some embodiments, multiple alternative segmentations are considered for each text hypothesis. In some examples, scores determined in generating the text hypothesis and the segmental score are combined to select an overall text recognition of the image.
