  • Patent number: 8121718
Abstract: Interactive, computer based orthodontist treatment planning, appliance design and appliance manufacturing is described. A scanner is described which acquires images of the dentition which are converted to three-dimensional frames of data. The data from the several frames are registered to each other to provide a complete three-dimensional virtual model of the dentition. Individual tooth objects are obtained from the virtual model. A computer-interactive software program provides for treatment planning, diagnosis and appliance from the virtual tooth models. A desired occlusion for the patient is obtained from the treatment planning software. The virtual model of the desired occlusion and the virtual model of the original dentition provide a base of information for custom manufacture of an orthodontic appliance.

  • Patent number: 8119464
Abstract: Semiconductor devices with high-K/metal gates are formed with spacers that are substantially resistant to subsequent etching to remove an overlying spacer, thereby avoiding replacement and increasing manufacturing throughput. Embodiments include forming a high-K/metal gate, having an upper surface and side surfaces, over a substrate, e.g., a SOI substrate, and sequentially forming, on the side surfaces of the high-K/metal gate, a first spacer of a non-oxide material, a second spacer, of a material different from that of the first spacer, and a third spacer, of a material different from that of the second spacer. After formation of source and drain regions, e.g., epitaxially grown silicon-germanium, the third spacer is etched with an etchant, such as hot phosphoric acid, to which the second spacer is substantially resistant, thereby avoiding replacement.

  • Publication number: 20120042019
Abstract: Techniques, including systems and methods for distributing electronic messages, are disclosed. In an embodiment, information relating to a message thread is maintained. The information includes information identifying one or more members of a distribution list to be excluded from receiving messages in the message thread. When it has been determined to prevent distribution of the electronic message to one or more members of the distribution list, the electronic message is distributed to members of the distribution list excluding the one or more members to whom distribution is to be prevented. The distributed electronic message may identify the distribution list as an intended recipient.

  • Publication number: 20120038398
Abstract: Clock-domain-crossing systems and methods include an integrator that accumulates input samples over multiple clock cycles in a first clock domain to generate an accumulation result. Clock-domain-crossing circuitry samples the accumulation result in the first clock domain after each of a repeating accumulation count to generate a first domain accumulation. The first domain accumulation is sampled in a second clock domain after a time delay to generate a second domain accumulation. The time delay ensures proper setup and hold time parameters for the second clock domain relative to the first clock domain. A differentiator generates output information in the second clock domain by delaying the second domain accumulation and subtracting the delayed second domain accumulation from the second domain accumulation. The systems and methods preserve temporal characteristics of the input information in the first clock domain when it is transferred to the second clock domain as the output information.

  • Patent number: 8113829
Abstract: An integrated system is described in which digital image data of a patient, obtained from a variety of image sources, including CT scanner, X-Ray, 2D or 3D scanners and color photographs, are combined into a common coordinate system to create a virtual three-dimensional patient model. Software tools are provided for manipulating the virtual patient model to simulation changes in position or orientation of craniofacial structures (e.g., jaw or teeth) and simulate their affect on the appearance of the patient. The simulation (which may be pure simulations or may be so-called “morphing” type simulations) enables a comprehensive approach to planning treatment for the patient. In one embodiment, the treatment may encompass orthodontic treatment. Similarly, surgical treatment plans can be created. Data is extracted from the virtual patient model or simulations thereof for purposes of manufacture of customized therapeutic devices for any component of the craniofacial structures, e.g., orthodontic appliances.

  • Patent number: 8113370
Abstract: A container structure for a hot fill liquid may employ an upper portion defining a mouth, a shoulder portion integrally formed with and extending downward from the upper portion, a bottom portion defining a base, and a body and sidewall extending between and joining the shoulder and bottom portions. The sidewall may employ a pair of opposing columns oriented diagonally relative to the base and concave inward relative to a container central vertical axis before the container is filled. The columns become concave inward to a lesser extent when the bottle is under an interior vacuum. The sidewall may also employ a pair of opposing, compound angle vacuum panels oriented diagonally relative to the base. A vacuum initiator groove is formed in each of the vacuum panels to initiate panel movement during liquid content cooling. The vacuum initiator groove is generally coincident with a vacuum panel longitudinal centerline.

  • Patent number: 8116408
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed to recover at least one information payload from a frame and/or to configure one or more reception parameters to receive a future frame to support RIFS. A physical layer device (PHY) receives at least a training sequence embedded in the frame of a transmitted communication signal using a receiver filter bandwidth corresponding to a variable filter training sequence bandwidth. The PHY determines an amount of gain necessary to recover an information payload embedded in the frame based on the recovery of the training sequence. The PHY determines an amount of gain necessary to recover an information payload embedded in the frame based on the recovery of the preamble. A previous communications receiver gain is adjusted by the difference between the amount of gain necessary to recover the information payload and the previous communications receiver gain.

  • Publication number: 20120030194
Abstract: A method, communication device and system are provided for identifying and scheduling events, such as meetings and appointments identified in data items such as messages and electronic documents. Content relating to an event is identified within the data item, and date information for the identified event is determined based on the content of the data item or other contextual information. An availability status in respect of the event is determined by querying a data store, such as a calendar store, to determine whether the date and time associated with the identified event is free or in conflict. Once the availability status is determined, the data item may be displayed at the communication device together with a visual indicator of the availability status. The identified event in the data item may be actuatable to create an event item for storage in the data store.
