  • Patent number: 6821511
Abstract: A composition for delivering at least one DNA sequence encoding a desired protein or polypeptide (such as a therapeutic agent) to a cell. The composition comprises an adeno-associated virus rep protein (or a nucleic acid sequence encoding an adeno-associated virus rep protein) and a genetic construct including at least one DNA sequence encoding a protein or polypeptide or genetic transcript of interest and a promoter controlling the at least one DNA sequence. The genetic construct also includes a first adeno-associated virus ITR or protein or derivative thereof and a second adeno-associated virus ITR or a portion or derivative thereof. The first and second adeno-associated virus ITRs or portions or derivatives thereof flank the at least one DNA sequence encoding the protein or polypeptide or genetic transcript of interest and the promoter controlling the at least one DNA sequence encoding the protein or polypeptide or genetic transcript of interest.

  • Patent number: 6820478
Abstract: A method of and system for buying or selling bras involves establishing a database of bras containing bra characteristic data including bra size and bra cup size measured from a sample of actual bras; measuring a wearer's breast and torso size to obtain wearer characteristic data; searching the database to find bra characteristic data within the database matching the wearer characteristic data; and listing for selection by the wearer any bras in the database whose characteristics match the wearer characteristic data. Apparatuses and methods for measuring breast characteristics and bra characteristics are also disclosed, the former involving application of a receptacle to the breast and the latter involving expansion of bladders within the cups of a bra, the aim in both cases being to establish volumetric data for the purposes of correlation using the database.

  • Patent number: 6821157
Abstract: A portable tool is connected to a remotely located operation controlling and/or monitoring control it via a multi-core cable. The multi-core cable is connected to the tool by a standard type multi-connector plug and jack connection to supply electric power and/or electric signals between the tool and the control unit. At least one signal producing element is provided on an upgrading module. The upgrading module is insertable between the tool and the multi-core cable via mating multi-connector plug and jack connections, and forms a readily exchangeable adapter. The upgrading module is individually designed to meet the demands of a particular operator, thereby adapting a standard type portable tool to a certain application without involving any re-building of the tool.

  • Patent number: 6821628
Abstract: The cooking panel is made from an opaque glass-ceramic material uniformly colored throughout and having keatite mixed crystals as the predominant crystalline phase. The cooking panel is made by ceramicizing a ceramicizable glass or a transparent glass-ceramic with high quartz mixed crystals as the predominant crystalline phase in a definite color location range with a brightness parameter value (L*) less than 85 and a color shade and chromaticity according to its later service and wear pattern. The cooking panel makes deposited material, such as dirt and the like, less conspicuous.

  • Patent number: 6822355
Abstract: An electronically commutated motor contains a rotor position determination, which detects a surface at which the rotor and stator poles (10 through 15; 17 through 20) diametrically oppose one another. The total surface is taken into consideration in the position determination. The pole angles (&bgr;S, &bgr;R) of the stator and rotor poles (10 through 15; 17 through 20) are each set to values at which a rotor rotation results in a surface change.

  • Publication number: 20040226297
Abstract: The present invention relates to a burner, substantially comprising a swirl generator for a combustion air stream and means for introducing fuel into the combustion air stream, the swirl generator having combustion-air inlet openings for the combustion air stream that enters the burner, and the means for introducing fuel into the combustion air stream comprising one or more first fuel feeds having a group of first fuel outlet openings, arranged distributed around the burner axis at a combustion chamber-side end of the burner. The burner is distinguished by the fact that the one or more first fuel feeds having the group of first fuel outlet openings are mechanically decoupled from the swirl generator. The present burner allows reliable and safe use of synthesis gas in both dilute and undiluted form as fuel.

  • Publication number: 20040226442
Abstract: In a vehicle air is compressed for being used in the brake system of the vehicle, for instance. In the compressor, used for the compression, the air is contaminated with oil and solid particles. In order to be relieved from these particles, before the air is conveyed through a drying filter, the compressed is brought to rotation by means of a rotating member in a centrifugal separator. The rotating member may advantageously include a pile of conical separation discs forming flow passages between each other for the compressed air to be cleaned. By means of an efficient cleaning of the compressed air from particles the life time of the drying filter may be increased.

  • Publication number: 20040227928
Abstract: A pyrometer having at least two detectors and at least two band-pass filters near each to limit the detectable wavelength band emitted by an object, and a device to exchange their filters to eliminate detector output ratio errors. The detector output ratio is then used to derive the color temperature of the object, which may have fast changes in emission intensity output.

  • Publication number: 20040226586
Abstract: A movement reversal device is used in a dishwasher. The dishwasher has a washing receptacle and a hydraulic assembly provided with at least two spraying devices impinging upon goods to be washed with a fluid transported via a circulating pump. The transported fluid flows through the movement reversal device that contains at least two outlets for feeding different spraying devices. The outlets are opened or closed by a positioning element such that one or several or all outlets are open or closed one after another and/or continuously. In order to better influence the course of the wash cycle and to obtain an optimal washing effect corresponding to the degree of dirtiness of the goods to be washed, the characteristics of the hydraulic assembly and the characteristics of the circulating pump are simultaneously or alternately changed by the movement reversal device.

  • Publication number: 20040229697
Abstract: A user composes a message within a video game paradigm by hitting targets in the video game environment which are associated with message component candidates such as letters, words, and phrases. Each of the message component candidate has a relative likelihood of selection predicted according to language usage in general and specifically of the user and according to the context of any portion of the message already composed. Message component candidates which are more likely to be selected by the user are associated with targets or other objectives of the video game environment which are more easily achieved. For example, more likely message components are associated more frequently and more centrally located and slower moving targets.

  • Publication number: 20040226694
Abstract: There is provided a heat exchanger, such as an exhaust gas cooler, that has a removable core at least partially disposed in a shell. Tubes extending through the shell fluidly connect tanks at both ends of the shell so that thermal energy can be transferred between a first fluid in the shell and a second fluid in the tubes. At least one of the tanks is defined partially by a tube sheet, and the tank is structured to be moved axially through the shell in a direction toward the opposite tank and removed from the shell with the tubes. A sealing member is disposed between the movable tank and the shell to prevent fluid from flowing therebetween.

  • Publication number: 20040228531
Abstract: User interfaces and methods are described for managing invitations in instant messaging communication threads. In some aspects, tabs are used to organize instant messaging threads in a condensed structure. In other aspects, a user may send and receive invitations that are then stored pending a receive user's acceptance or decline of the invitation. The status of these pending conversations is continuously displayed to the user so they are not forgotten. These and other aspects to user interfaces for instant messaging applications are described.
