    Abstract: The present invention provides a display device which includes signal lines which are formed on an upper surface side of a substrate, an insulation film which is formed such that the film covers the signal lines except for terminal portions of the signal lines, and conductive layers which extend in the extension direction of the signal lines such that the terminal portions traverse the terminal portions. In such a display device, gaps are formed between respective sides of the conductive layer parallel to the extension direction of the conductive layer and the insulation film and holes are formed in the signal lines at portions corresponding to the gaps along the extension direction of the signal lines.

    Abstract: The present invention efficiently arranges a spare TFT element in a pixel region of a liquid crystal display device. A display device includes a substrate on which TFT elements which are arranged in pixel regions each of which is surrounded by two neighboring scanning signal lines and two neighboring video signal lines are formed. The substrate arranges a first TFT element and a second TFT element in each pixel region in which the first TFT element and the second TFT element independently include a channel layer, a drain electrode and a source electrode respectively, only either one of the first TFT element and the second TFT element in each pixel region is operated when a video signal is applied to the video signal line and a scanning signal is applied to the scanning signal line, and the first TFT element and the second TFT element differ from each other in largeness or a shape of an occupied area or a channel width and a channel length of each TFT element when the substrate is viewed in a plan view.

A direction of disposition of the thin film transistor elements toward the video signal lines is inverted each time the video signal lines cut across the scan signal lines in a direction of extension of the video signal lines. Each of the video signal lines is given a signal whose polarity is identical in one frame period and is inverted for each frame period. Each adjacent two of the video signal lines are given signals having mutually inverse polarities. A display area is set up as a group of the pixel regions in the display panel.

The liquid crystal display device is substantially characterized in that the common electrodes are formed as layers above the color filters, the pixel electrodes are formed as layers below the color filters, and the color filters are superposed at least on the whole surfaces of the pixel electrodes in the pixel region.

At two pixel regions which are selected from the respective pixel regions, the height of background layers on which the electrodes which constitute the lower layers with respect to the interlayer insulation films are formed differs with respect to a surface of one substrate. The film thickness of the interlayer insulation film is set small with respect to the high background layer out of respective background layers which differ in height and is set large with respect to the low background layer out of respective background layers which differ in height.
