  • Publication number: 20220364463
Abstract: A communication system employed during wellbore operations, such as during drilling, cementing, fracturing, or other wellbore operations, which utilizes ultrasound (i.e., acoustic waves characterized by ultrasonic frequencies) to communicate sensor and/or control information from inside a riser and/or blowout preventer (BOP) to outside the riser/BOP, and/or vice versa. More specifically, the communication system may include an internal ultrasonic module (IUM) residing inside the riser/BOP and acoustically coupled to a drill string and/or a centralizer also inside the riser/BOP. The communication system may further include an external ultrasonic module (EUM) residing outside the riser/BOP and acoustically coupled to the riser/BOP.

  • Patent number: 11492094
Abstract: A fixed-wing cargo aircraft having a kinked fuselage is disclosed. The fuselage contains a continuous interior cargo bay, and includes a forward portion, an aft portion, and a kinked portion forming a junction in the fuselage between the forward and aft portions. The kinked portion contains a transition region of the cargo bay and defines a bend between a forward centerline and an aft centerline. The kinked portion is formed with a forward transverse frame section, a separate aft transverse frame section, and a plurality of longitudinal frame elements extending between the forward and aft frame sections, the forward frame being coupled to an aft end of the forward portion and the aft frame section being coupled to a forward end of the aft portion such that the aft frame section is angled with respect to the forward frame section about a lateral axis of the cargo aircraft.

  • Patent number: 11487685
Abstract: Techniques in electronic systems, such as in systems comprising a CPU die and one or more external mixed-mode (analog) chips, may provide improvements advantages in one or more of system design, performance, cost, efficiency and programmability. In one embodiment, the CPU die comprises at least one microcontroller CPU and circuitry enabling the at least one CPU to have a full and transparent connectivity to an analog chip as if they are designed as a single chip microcontroller, while the interface design between the two is extremely efficient and with limited in number of wires, yet may provide improved performance without impact to functionality or the software model.

  • Patent number: 11487684
Abstract: A system that includes a first die with a central processing unit (CPU) and a second die electrically coupled to the first die by die-to-die interconnects is described. During operation, the first die: provides, to the second die, a set of predefined wake-up events; provides, to the second die, a message that transitions power-management control of the first die to the second die; and transitions the first die from a first operating mode to a second operating mode that has lower power consumption than that of the first operating mode. Then, the second die: determines an occurrence of a predefined wake-up event based at least in part on the set of predefined wake-up events; and provides, to the first die, information that initiates a transition of the first die from the second operating mode to the first operating mode.

  • Patent number: 11490175
Abstract: Described are systems and methods to provide agnostic sensor data obtained from a sensor and transmitted to a central database by a transmitter device. In one aspect, a value sensed by a sensor component is converted at the transmitter device to an agnostic value defined by a dimensionless universal scale and offset. The agnostic value is then sent to a data acquisition database where it is converted back to the original value. This is accomplished by first providing the data acquisition database with a sensor definition of a scale and offset used to convert the sensor values in addition to any sensor indicia and other parameters to display the data acquired at the data acquisition database. The wireless sensors database and user interface are also automatically updated when a new sensor type is attached to the network utilizing configuration data that resides in the new sensor that is sent to the database on its first connection.

  • Publication number: 20220340279
Abstract: Methods of determining a final space reservation for a new aircraft are disclosed. The methods include using parametric definitions of potential payloads to generate a population of representative payloads for use in creating an initial space reservation. The methods include accounting for and applying a variety of margins on each potential payload and taking the union of potential payloads. Alternatively, the union can be taken first and then the margins applied. A homogenous space reservation can be determined based upon a variety of differently shaped or sized payloads, including a margin build-up to mitigate risk of unknowns associated with future changes in specific payload shapes and sizes, build tolerances, environmental conditions, and/or loading and unloading motions and clearances. Once this space reservation is known, it is possible to design an external shape of a carrying vehicle by staying outside of this space reservation.

  • Publication number: 20220340281
Abstract: Systems, methods, and aircraft for managing center of gravity (CG) while transporting large cargo are described. Management of CG is achieved in many ways. In some instances, the aircraft itself is designed to assist in managing CG by providing fuel tanks that minimize the impact of fuel on the net CG of the aircraft. The fuel tanks utilize only a small amount of available volume in the wings for fuel. Disclosures related to properly managing CG while loading wind turbines onto cargo aircraft are also provided. The CG management techniques provided for herein allow for the transportation of wind turbine blades via aircraft, running counter to the typical rail or truck transportation of the same. One such management technique includes accounting for how a rotation of the blades when loading impacts the CG of the blades, and thus taking this into account when placing the blades in the aircraft.
