  • Publication number: 20070200674
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide an electronic device having a location-based security feature. The device is generally operable to provide a primary security feature corresponding to a user input and provide a secondary security feature corresponding to a geographic security location of the electronic device. In various embodiments, the secondary security feature is operable to override the primary security feature. Such a configuration enables the secondary security feature to be satisfied independent of the user input.

  • Publication number: 20070169002
Abstract: An apparatus, program product and method utilize metadata collected for a lock in a computer program to determine an optimal lock acquisition strategy for the lock. The metadata is typically collected via profiling of the computer program to determine a wait characteristic for the lock in the particular runtime environment in which the computer program executes, and the metadata is used to select from among different lock access implementations to be used to attempt to acquire the lock, often enabling an optimum lock access implementation to be selected for a lock.

  • Publication number: 20070090170
Abstract: A method of making a circuitized substrate in which solder material (e.g., in paste form) is deposited through a screen onto individual conductors in a spaced pattern of individual solder “islands”. A solder flux is then deposited onto the “islands” causing these to spread out and form a continuous solder layer across the conductor's upper surface. The solder layer is then capable of coupling to an external conductor such as a solder ball, to form an electrical assembly such as might be used within an information handling system such as a personal computer.

  • Patent number: 7185191
Abstract: A distributed nodal system with a source computer processor node storing program code for target node(s). A target node has an updatable firmware memory storing program code for operating a target processor. The target code comprises application code for controlling an embedded device, primary communication code for communicating with a network, backup communication code also having copy code for copying code between portions of the firmware memory, and primary boot code for booting the target processor and having check code. The check code determines whether the primary communication code is corrupted, and if it is corrupted, employs the copy code to overwrite the primary communication code with the backup code. If uncorrupted, the check code determines whether the application code is corrupted, and if corrupted, prevents execution of the code.

  • Publication number: 20060281484
Abstract: A portable phone a portable phone is equipped with a personal area network (PAN) detection mechanism to detect all portable phones and electronic identifiers (e.g., key fobs) in its PAN. A buddy list is included in the portable phone. If an electronic identifier is detected, such as from a key fob, but its corresponding portable phone is not, a proxy signal mechanism signals to the wireless telephone network that the phone may receive calls for a different phone. In response, the wireless telephone network routes calls for the different phone to the proxy phone instead. In this manner a phone may change functions automatically as devices enter and leave the PAN.

  • Publication number: 20060276115
Abstract: A chemical-mechanical polishing apparatus is provided with a downstream device for conditioning a web-shaped polishing pad. The device may be used to condition a glazed portion of the pad, and then the conditioned pad portion may be used again for polishing. The conditioning device is preferably arranged to apply different conditioning treatments to different portions of the glazed pad. The conditioning device may have roller segments that rotate at different speeds. Alternatively, the device may have non-cylindrical rollers that provide different rotational speeds at the pad surface, or the device may apply different pressures at different portions of the pad. The device may be arranged to provide uniform conditioning across the width of the pad. The invention is applicable to methods of planarizing semiconductor wafers. The invention may be used to condition circular pads in addition to web-shaped pads.

  • Publication number: 20060234604
Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing conductive material from a microelectronic substrate. In one embodiment, the method can include engaging a microelectronic substrate with a polishing surface of a polishing pad, electrically coupling a conductive material of the microelectronic substrate to a source of electrical potential, and oxidizing at least a portion of the conductive material by passing an electrical current through the conductive material from the source of electrical potential. For example, the method can include positioning first and second electrodes apart from a face surface of the microelectronic substrate and disposing an electrolytic fluid between the face surface and the electrodes with the electrodes in fluid communication with the electrolytic fluid. • Publication number: 20060217040
Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing conductive material from a microelectronic substrate. In one embodiment, a support member supports a microelectronic substrate relative to first and second electrodes, which are spaced apart from each other and spaced apart from the microelectronic substrate. One or more electrolytes are disposed between the electrodes and the microelectronic substrate to electrically link the electrodes to the microelectronic substrate. The electrodes are then coupled to a source of varying current that electrically removes the conductive material from the substrate. The microelectronic substrate and/or the electrodes can be moved relative to each other to position the electrodes relative to a selected portion of the microelectronic substrate, and the electrodes can be integrated with a planarizing portion of the apparatus to remove material from the conductive layer by chemical-mechanical planarization.
