  • Patent number: 8286297
Abstract: The present invention is directed generally to tools that are made, at least in part, more durable, particularly one or more working surface(s) of the tools. For example, various tools such as trowels, knives, and scrappers may be made having at least a portion of their blades heat treated to make at least their working edges more durable and extend their useful lives. For example, in various embodiments, a putty knife, taping knife, or scrapper blade may have at least one working surface or edge that has been at heat treated while an area of the blade where a handle is permanently attached is not heat treated.

  • Publication number: 20120203868
Abstract: Methods and systems for delivering scalable media content from a server to a client are provided. A server index is provided to a media server for indexing the layers of scalable content in the form of media data groups. The client transmits at least one media request comprising a scalable media presentation identifier, a requested quality identifier and a requested layer identifier. Based on the at least one request, the server identifies the requested media data groups and transmits the requested media data groups to the client. The client receives the requested media data groups, which may be a subset of all available media data groups, and reorders the media data into decoding order for subsequent decoding and playback.

  • Publication number: 20120066976
Abstract: In one aspect, a method of operating a movable barrier operator includes engaging a flexible driven member with a drive of the movable barrier operator. The method includes moving the flexible driven member in a first direction to move a movable barrier connected to the driven member and monitoring the position of the movable barrier. In response to the movable barrier reaching a given position, the driven member is moved in a second direction without moving the movable barrier to remove slack from the driven member. In another aspect, a movable barrier apparatus includes a movable barrier controller operatively coupled to a movable barrier operator. The movable barrier controller is configured to cause the movable barrier operator to reverse direction of a flexible driven member a distance after stopping movement of a movable barrier toward a limit position and without moving the movable barrier.

  • Publication number: 20110082945
Abstract: Methods and systems for creating and retrieving scalable media files using a chunking model. A plurality of network abstraction layer (NAL) units representing a scalable media presentation are grouped into a plurality of video chunks wherein each chunk represents only the NAL units of one layer and a specific time period. The plurality of video chunks are then stored in one or more scalable media files along with indexing information which provides information for retrieving the NAL units from each video chunk. In this manner, a client can request only the video chunks (and thus NAL units) that it needs or wants to achieve a specific bandwidth.

  • Publication number: 20070174988
Abstract: The present invention is directed generally to building tools that are high quality, durable, and in some case lightweight. Various tools may be made, at least in part, using a material including magnesium to reduce the weight of the tool. For example, a trowel includes a tang, support member or attachment member that may be made, at least in part, of a magnesium material so as to create a more light weight trowel. The tang, support member or attachment member connects the trowel handle to the trowel blade. The trowel blade may be made of a steel material or a high carbon steel material for high durability. The trowel may be, for example, a concrete trowel including a cross-ground trowel, a flat back end finishing trowel, or a round/round finishing trowel.

  • Publication number: 20070157470
Abstract: A process for attaching a wheel cover to a wheel in which a wheel cover and wheel are placed together and a foamable adhesive is injected into the gap defined between the wheel cover and wheel. After the foamable adhesive is injected into the gap defined between the wheel cover and wheel at an injection station, the cover/wheel assembly is transported to a station in which the cover/wheel assembly is heated to a temperature that is sufficient to effect the forming, expansion and curing of the foamable adhesive. The cover/wheel assemblies are supported and transported on carriers that are provided with clamping mechanisms.

  • Publication number: 20070062540
Abstract: A tracheotomy apparatus including a cuff, a port and a sensor. The cuff defines a chamber and wraps around a portion of the subject's neck. A fluid delivery system delivers a gas to the chamber through the port as the subject naturally respires. The sensor monitors carbon dioxide in another gas exhaled from the subject as the subject naturally respires. The sensor can be coupled to a controller that monitors pre-selected parameters, and optionally activates an alarm when those parameters are unmet. A related method includes aligning the tracheotomy cuff with a subject's tracheotomy tube; delivering a first gas so that the subject can naturally respire, drawing the gas from the apparatus; and monitoring a second gas exhaled by the subject into the tracheotomy cuff. Optionally, an alarm is activated when the monitored parameters fall outside pre-selected parameters.

  • Publication number: 20060280354
Abstract: Surrogate document indicator and methods of using same. A surrogate document image encoded on a storage medium as part of a database or repository of images includes a surrogate document image indicator. In example embodiments, images within the system, including surrogate document images are stored in tagged image file format (TIFF) and the TIFF header includes the surrogate document image indicator. When images are retrieved by an application from an archive or a check image management system, each one is programmatically examined to detect the presence of the surrogate document image indicator. If necessary, the image with the indicator is treated as an exception.
