    Abstract: Provided are a method of chondrogenic differentiation from mesenchymal stem cells and a composition comprising chondrogenic cells differentiated using the method to treat diseases caused by cartilage damage. In the method, a centrifugal force is applied to human mesenchymal stem cells to be differentiated into chondrogenic cells. The chondrogenic differentiation may be achieved at moderate cost without using expensive cytokines or growth factors by periodically applying only a centrifugal force. According to the method of chondrogenic differentiation from mesenchymal stem cells in the present embodiment, chondrogenic cells may be also differentiated from human mesenchymal stem cells.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for assisting medication are disclosed. The apparatus includes a medication box and a medication service device. The medication service device includes a situation detector detecting a status of a user based on user identification and signal strength included in a radio frequency signal, and a status of the medication box, a situation recognizer recognizing a medication situation, and a service executor generating a service for medication. The user who has to regularly take a paper bag of medication for a long time can be assisted to take an accurate dose of medication on time.

A meal activity sensing apparatus collects sensor data detected through a plurality of pressure sensors installed in a smart meal mat, filters the collected sensor data, measures a pressure variance by using the filtered sensor data, determines whether a meal activity has taken place by comparing the measured pressure variance with a preset threshold value, and transmits meal activity information associated with the meal activity to an information processor communicating with the smart meal mat via radio frequency. Since this provides an advantage of more accurate detection of the meal activity, it can be useful in care services for eldercare facilities and for elderly individuals living alone, and further, in the efficient observance of an individual's daily meal patterns.

    Abstract: There are provided a filter chip in which a filter is mounted on a microfluidic device as a hybrid form, and a method of manufacturing the filter chip. The method includes: forming a bottom structure where a groove for stably mounting a filter is formed; mounting the filter on the groove; forming a top structure forming a fluid inlet for injecting a fluid into the filter; and covering the top structure on a top area of the groove to attach to the bottom structure, wherein the groove and the filter have a shape becoming narrow from the fluid inlet to a fluid outlet in such a way that the fluid receives a rapid change of a capillary force while passing through the filter. Accordingly, blood plasma is capable of being separated at a higher speed by increasing the capillary force of the fluid outlet, thereby obtaining the blood plasma as large amount as possible.

    Abstract: A context aware system and a context aware method thereof perform a reasoning to be aware of contexts in ubiquitous environments. The context aware method includes procedures of modeling a knowledge base describing context information including constraints; classifying the context information described in the knowledge base according to the constraints; filtering fact data having same constraints as input sensor data from the classified context data; storing only rules, which satisfy the filtered fact data and constraints, in an working memory; and inferring a service context by reasoning the stored fact data and rules. The method receives input sensor data, associated with a subject, continuously monitored and serviced by indoor sensors, performs a reasoning based upon the input sensor data, in order to be aware of the present contexts of the subject and also provide, in real-time, a service suitable for the present contexts, thereby promoting the convenience of life.
