Publication number: 20230282394Abstract: An RF plenum cable has an annular outer conductor and a coaxial inner conductor. Disposed between the inner and outer conductors is a dielectric spine which includes a sleeve that wraps around the inner conductor, and a plurality of circumferentially spaced ribs that project outwardly from an outer surface of the sleeve. Each of the ribs is defined by a tapered configuration having a first thickness at a first end portion coupled to the sleeve, and a second thickness at a second end portion coupled to an inner surface of the outer conductor, in which the first thickness is less than the second thickness. The dielectric spine may be formed of a plastic having a dielectric constant and loss tangent that, combined with the design of the dielectric spine and the dimensions of the inner and outer conductor, allows for a reduced insertion loss at high frequencies (e.g., 6 GHz).Type: ApplicationFiled: March 6, 2023Publication date: September 7, 2023Applicant: John Mezzalingua Associates, LLCInventors: Jeremy Charles Benn, Christopher P. Natoli, Brandon M. Stevens, Shawn Chawgo

Patent number: 9166306Abstract: Passive intermodulation (PIM) and impedance management in coaxial cable terminations. In one example embodiment, a method for terminating a coaxial cable is provided. The coaxial cable includes an inner conductor, an insulating layer, an outer conductor, and a jacket. First, a diameter of the outer conductor that surrounds a cored-out section of the insulating layer is increased so as to create an increased-diameter cylindrical section of the outer conductor. Next, an internal connector structure is inserted into the cored-out section so as to be surrounded by the increased-diameter cylindrical section. Finally, an external connector structure is clamped around the increased-diameter cylindrical section so as to radially compress the increased-diameter cylindrical section between the external connector structure and the internal connector structure, and via a single action, a contact force between the inner conductor and a conductive pin is increased.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2010Date of Patent: October 20, 2015Assignee: John Mezzalingua Associates, LLCInventors: Noah Montena, Shawn Chawgo

Patent number: 8661656Abstract: A hydraulic compression tool for securing a compression type cable connector to a prepared end of a coaxial cable. The tool can include a hydraulic assembly having an axially extendable ram, and a connector frame detachably attached to the hydraulic assembly. The connector frame can include a cable cradle configured to accommodate cables of various sizes and a sleeve for engaging a cable connector. The connector frame can further include a sliding guide structure attached to the cable cradle. The sliding guide structure can include a sliding bar and one or more sliding guides. The sleeve can be attached to the sliding bar. The sleeve can be configured to accommodate connectors of various sizes. Activating the hydraulic assembly can cause the ram to extend, which, in turn, can cause the sliding bar to move along the longitudinal axis of the cable connector compressing the compression member and connector body into operative engagement with the cable.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2011Date of Patent: March 4, 2014Assignee: John Mezzallingua Associates, LLCInventor: Shawn Chawgo
