  • Publication number: 20120108118
Abstract: A sit-astride amphibious vehicle configuration which supports a high performance envelope both on land as well as in water. The vehicle has a planing hull and four retractable wheels. Handlebars provide for directional control in both modes of operation. Each road wheel is retractable by pivoting through at least 45° so as to maximize ground clearance when in the land mode of operation and to minimize drag at substantial lean angles when in the marine mode of operation. While a jet drive may remain directly connected to the engine at all times, the driven wheels are only connected during land mode via a speed-change transmission. The entire power train is supported by a frame that is separable from the hull which in turn has a detachable top deck portion, whereby such configuration simplifies the construction, repair and servicing of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 8141362
Abstract: A closed cycle heat transfer device comprising a boiler (10) and a condenser (13), the condenser being used to recover useful heat by latent heat evaporation. A circuit defined by the boiler (10), condenser (13) and ducts (12, 15) is to be liquid-filled at a pressure just above atmospheric pressure. An expansion device (16) maintains the working pressure in the circuit but will receive excess condensate in a liquid phase to compensate for expansion of the working fluid vapor which passes from the boiler (10) to the condenser (13). The expansion chamber contains a movable or flexible member which, when working liquid is received in the chamber, is displaced to compress a gas in the chamber.

  • Patent number: 8143747
Abstract: A flux control system for a three-phase active voltage conditioner that utilizes an injection transformer to apply calculated compensation voltage to a mains supply. The flux control system is configured to modify the compensation voltage to be applied to at least one primary terminal of the injection transformer so as to avoid magnetic saturation of the injection transformer. The flux control system includes magnetic flux model modules that are configured to calculate a core flux level of the injection transformer, flux offset modules that are configured to apply a first modification to the compensation voltage to gradually reduce any flux offset in the injection transformer, and peak flux modules that are configured to apply a second modification to the compensation voltage to prevent the core flux level from exceeding a preset range.

  • Patent number: 8109739
Abstract: A dosing pump for a liquid additive in fuel of a heavy fuel engine includes a piston, a cylinder, and a high resolution linear actuator, including a motor driven by a controller, for moving the piston axially in the cylinder. The pump includes a manifold, and a low friction dish-shaped seal having a peripheral portion forming a seal between the cylinder and the manifold in a fully extended position of the piston. The dish-shaped seal includes a top portion attached to the piston that moves with the piston such that the top portion of the seal is compressed against the manifold in the fully extended position. The shape of the seal minimizes non-linearity of the volume dosed as a function of movement of the piston, and the controller drives the motor so as to remove a remaining non-linearity of the volume dosed as a function of movement of the piston.

  • Patent number: 8091641
Abstract: A method of and an apparatus for treating a near zone and/or a far zone of a well is disclosed. The method comprises the following steps. (1) A tube that is permeable to a material is placed inside a wellbore, forming an annulus inside the wellbore. (2) A setting section surrounded by a sleeve is placed inside the tube. The sleeve is expandable and impermeable to the material. (3) The sleeve is inflated so that the sleeve is in contact with the tube, ensuring that the first zone of the tube is impermeable to the material, but leaving a second zone permeable to the material. (4) A treatment fluid is pumped to the zones that passes through the second zone still permeable to the material. (5) The near zone in the annulus and/or the far zone in the surrounding formation is treated with the treatment fluid.
