  • Patent number: 8073526
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and device to record and visualize drawing and writing movements during functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) of brain activity. The system includes a touch-sensitive tablet, an elevated mounting platform, a stylus, and a controller box, as well as the necessary cabling and software. All equipment residing inside the magnet room is non-ferromagnetic and does not interfere with scanner operation and does not affect fMRI data quality. Individuals lying inside the scanner interact with device in a natural, intuitive way, similar to writing with pen and paper. Drawing motions captured by the tablet are displayed through a pair of fMRI-compatible goggles or by using a projector and screen. Other visual stimuli can be concurrently presented with the drawing motions for the purpose of assessing specific aspects of human behavior. The system allows for a plurality of experiments to be performed, all while brain activity is measured and recorded.

  • Publication number: 20110290493
Abstract: Disclosed are compositions and methods for providing fluid-loss control in subterranean wells. Well-completion fluids contain fine particulate additives whose glass-transition temperatures are below the anticipated bottomhole temperature. The particles soften upon injection into the well, whereupon they soften and become deformable. The particles then migrate to the borehole wall and form a seal that reduces further fluid flow from the borehole into the formation. The additive may be supplied as a powder or in the form of a liquid suspension.

  • Publication number: 20110291782
Abstract: In a solenoidal electromagnet arrangement for a magnetic resonance imaging system, annular inner coils and annular end coils are provided, all concentrically aligned about an axis, the end coils being placed at axial extremities, axially outside of the inner coils. A pair of annular outer coils are provided concentrically aligned about the axis. An arrangement is provided retaining the pair of outer coils against an axial force urging the outer coils away from one another. The arrangement comprises strap elements which extend around a radially inner surface, a radially outer surface and an axially outer surface of each outer coil in certain circumferential locations. Each strap element on one of the outer coils is linked to a corresponding strap element on the other outer coil of the pair by a tensile member.

  • Publication number: 20110284221
Abstract: The external surface of a tubular body such as well casing is coated with a substance that, upon exposure to cement, is unstable and degrades. After installation in a subterranean well and subsequent cementation, the coating degrades and forms a gap between the external surface of the tubular body and the cement sheath. Forming the gap is useful for obtaining optimal stimulation during the hydraulic fracturing of unconventional shale-gas formations.

  • Publication number: 20110287178
Abstract: Anti reflective silica coatings are deposited on the glass ribbon produced during a float glass or a rolled glass production process using a flame pyrolysis deposition process which is preferably a combustion chemical vapour deposition process. The temperature of the ribbon is greater than 200° C. The process may be carried out in the gap between the float bath or rollers and the annealing lehr. The durability of the coating may be increased by sintering. The equipment preferably comprises an extraction unit positioned adjacent to each burner head. In a further embodiment additional oxygen is introduced to the vapour deposition process in order produce a coating having a lower effective refractive index.

  • Publication number: 20110207437
Abstract: Enhanced message notification is provided by an enhanced notification function element and a subscriber preference profile database. The enhanced notification function element queries the subscriber preference profile database to obtain subscriber communication terminal capabilities information, which it uses to select a message notification technology. The enhanced notification function element may then format an enhanced notification that is delivered to a communication terminal through a delivery system architecture appropriate for the selected message notification technology. The enhanced notification may contain: a message type indicator; an identifier of the party leaving the message; a date and time that the message was deposited; multimedia objects; and other enhanced information. The enhanced notification function element may also query a terminal roaming status database in order to determine if the enhanced message should be sent when the terminal is roaming.
