    Abstract: A digital-to-analog conversion circuit includes a first digital-to-analog converter (DAC), a second DAC, and a control circuit to select which DAC to use for digital-to-analog conversion of a digital signal. Concerned with the noise level produced at a given out-of-band frequency, the control circuit bases its selection of DACs, at least in part, on a frequency distance between the given out-of-band frequency and the digital signal's frequency. The control circuit, for example, may select the DAC producing the lowest noise level at that frequency distance, or, if both DACs are able to reduce noise to a level below a noise tolerance specified for the frequency distance, the DAC consuming the least power. To reduce the chip area required for the digital-to-analog conversion circuit, the first and second DACs advantageously have topologies that permit them to share common components (e.g., DAC unit elements).

    Abstract: A method and system for controlling and adjusting light in interstitial photodynamic light therapy (IPDT) in a subject is disclosed. More particularly, a method for controlling the light in interstitial tumor photodynamic light therapy is described using calculation method for determination of status of tissue during the PDT treatment. The status is used in a feedback loop to control the continued PDT treatment. Methods are disclosed that constitute pre-treatment and realtime dosimetry modules for IPDT on the whole prostate glandular tissue. The method includes reconstruction of the target geometry, optimization of source fiber positions within this geometry, monitoring of the light attenuation during the treatment procedure and updating individual fiber irradiation times to take into account any variation in tissue light transmission.

One or more processing circuits, of the mobile node or a network node, determine the value of a control setting that defines a power efficiency configuration of the mobile node. In one embodiment, for example, the power efficiency configuration indicates the mobile node is configured to operate at the maximum power efficiency attainable without the data rate of the data transmission falling below a minimum data rate required by a quality of service. Regardless, the one or more processing circuits select from different possible bandwidths of the data transmission a bandwidth that supports a given data rate and that, according to a power efficiency model that models power efficiency of the mobile node for the different possible bandwidths, yields a power efficiency comporting with the power efficiency configuration.

    Abstract: In one or more embodiments taught herein, a multi-band MIMO repeater is configured to translate normal wireless mobile bands into other frequency bands in the physical layer. An advantageous, multi-hop repeater chain includes two or more such repeaters, for propagating downlink signals from a base station, and for propagating uplink signals to the base station. Each such repeater may use paralleled homodyne structure transceivers for better SNR, spectrum combiners for uplink signal aggregation, spectrum separators for downlink signal de-aggregation, water mark signal inserters for optimization, and, among other things, spectrum analyzers for frequency band selection. In at least one such embodiment, a multi-hop repeater chain is configured for MIMO operation in an LTE Advanced or other MIMO network, to deliver high data rate over larger distances—e.g., further away from cell base stations.

    Abstract: The invention provides an efficient technique for encoding a multi-channel audio signal. The invention relies on the principle of encoding (S1) a signal representation of one or more of the multiple channels in a first encoding process, and encoding another signal representation of one or more channels in a second, filter-based encoding process. A basic idea according to the invention is to select (S2), for the second encoding process, a combination of i) frame division configuration of an overall encoding frame into a set of sub-frames, and ii) filter length for each sub-frame, according to a predetermined criterion. The second signal representation is then encoded (S3) in each sub-frame of the overall encoding frame according to the selected combination. The possibility to select frame division configuration and at the same time adjust the filter length for each sub-frame provides added degrees of freedom, and generally results in improved performance.
