  • Patent number: 8498268
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing a handover of network connections upon a mobile terminal moving from a first access network to a second access network. The method includes obtaining IP connectivity and a first IP address for the mobile terminal through the first access network. In response to the mobile terminal moving from the first access network to the second access network, the method further includes sending a request for a new IP connectivity and a second IP address over the second access network, the request indicating a need to handover the network connections from the first access network to the second access network.

  • Publication number: 20130188604
Abstract: Residential/Enterprise network connection management and handover scenarios. A method, system and device are provided for managing LIPA and/or SIPTO connection releases when UE moves out of residential/enterprise network coverage in case service continuity is not supported for the LIPA/SIPTO PDN connection(s). To address problems caused by not providing service continuity for LIPA/SIPTO PDN connections, the PDN connection/PDP context created in the HeNB/HNB by the MME/SGSN includes context information related to the UE indicating whether such connection is a LIPA PDN connection PDN connection or not. In particular, when the MME (1708) receives a handover request (17-1) from a source base station (1704), if it determines that the active PDN connections are LIPA PDN connections and that LIPA PDN continuity cannot be supported towards the target cell, the MME (1708) rejects the handover and sends (17-2) a Failure message to the source base station (1704).

  • Patent number: 8442011
Abstract: A networking system comprises a proxy mobility agent (PMA) module, and a home agent (HA) module. The PMA module sends a first binding update message including a unique identifier to a remote HA based on a trigger signal. The unique identifier identifies a mobile terminal associated with the remote PMA. The HA module receives a second binding update message including the unique identifier from a remote PMA, and selectively sends the trigger signal to the PMA module based on the second binding update message.

  • Patent number: 8351924
Abstract: A technique for protecting location information of a subscriber in a mobile network is disclosed. A User Mobility Server (UMS) receives a first query from a first call state control function (CSCF). The UMS transmits a call setup and a subscriber identity to a servicing-call state control function (S-CSCF). The S-CSCF may have no record of the subscriber identity due to a restart are some other event. The UMS receives a second query from the S-CSCF based in part of the subscriber identity. • Patent number: 8311021
Abstract: A method for saving power, at a mobile terminal, includes receiving a call, at a network entity, wherein the call contains information relating to transmission of the call from the network entity to the mobile terminal. The mobile terminal operates in first and second communications networks, which are different. The mobile terminal detects coverage of the first communications network and activates a first interface corresponding to the first communications network. The mobile terminal can also deactivate the first interface and activate a second interface corresponding to the second communications network while the mobile terminal is located in both the first and second communications networks. The mobile terminal can then enter a low power consumption mode supported by the second communications network.

  • Patent number: 8295830
Abstract: A mobile communication terminal includes a registration module that initiates a registration of the mobile communication terminal with Internet protocol (IP) multimedia subsystems (IMS) within a home network. The registration module initiates registration when the mobile communication terminal is roaming in a visited network. The mobile communication terminal also includes a session module that initiates a session set-up with the IMS to enable use of IMS resources. At least one of the registration module and the session module provide a first IP address to the IMS during at least one of the registration and the session set-up. The mobile communication terminal communicates with a first packet data network (PDN) that is local to the visited network using the first IP address in order to use at least one of the IMS resources.

  • Patent number: 8270978
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing a handover of a communication session from a non-3GPP access network to a 3GPP access network in which only a Gn/Gp-based Serving GPRS Support Node has been deployed in the 3GPP access network. The method includes establishing the communication session between a user equipment and an Evolved Packet Core through the non-3GPP access network, and performing a handover of the communication session from the non-3GPP access network to the 3GPP access network. Performing the handover includes providing information to the UE of a selected packet data network gateway prior to performing the handover, and providing the information of the selected packet data network gateway from the user equipment to the 3GPP access network during the handover to maintain continuity of the communication session between the user equipment and the Evolved Packet Core.

  • Publication number: 20120230277
Abstract: A network includes a database configured to store subscriber data associated with a wireless terminal, wherein the subscriber data indicates whether the wireless terminal requires allocation of an IP address during attachment of the wireless terminal to the network. The network module receives, from the wireless terminal, a request to attach to the network. In response to receiving the request, the network module retrieves the subscriber data stored in the database and selectively allocates an IP address to the wireless terminal based on whether the subscriber data stored in the database indicates that the wireless terminal requires allocation of an IP address during attachment of the wireless terminal to the network.

  • Patent number: 8260296
Abstract: A mobile terminal for reduction of data loss during transitioning of the mobile terminal between network devices includes a controller. The controller is capable of transmitting a request to transition and receiving queued data from an original network device prior to transition from the original network device to a target network device. The queued data is content data intended for and undelivered to the mobile terminal that is temporarily stored at the original network device from a time when the request to transition is transmitted to when the transition occurs. The controller is also capable of transitioning from the original network device to the target network device and receiving data stored at the target network device responsive to the request to transition following transition from the original network device to the target network device.

  • Publication number: 20120184266
Abstract: LIPA PDN Connectivity indicates a PDP Context (in the case of a GERAN or UTRAN femto cell connected to a GPRS core network) or a PDN Connection (in the case of an E-UTRAN femto cell connected to a GPRS core network) that gives access to services located in the local IP network of the femto cell subsystem. SIPTO PDN Connectivity indicates a PDP Context or PDN Connection that allows offload of selected types of IP traffic (e.g. internet traffic) towards a defined IP network close to the UE's point of attachment to the access network. Remote PDN Connectivity indicates a regular PDP Context or PDN Connection established neither according to LIPA PDN Connectivity nor SIPTO PDN Connectivity.
