  • Publication number: 20150326612
Abstract: Aspects described herein relate to detecting wireless network services. A network that advertises access to a service provider network via a cellular radio access technology (RAT) in an unlicensed frequency can be discovered at a user equipment (UE). The UE can then determine one or more user-defined or operator-defined policies related to selecting the network, and select the network for access based at least in part on the one or more user-defined or operator-defined policies.

  • Publication number: 20150304898
Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatuses for controlling offloadability of public data network (PDN) connections to wireless local area networks (WLANs) and detach from cellular wireless networks are described herein. An apparatus for wireless communication comprises a receiver configured to receive a first indication from a cellular wireless network that the apparatus may selectively offload all data connections except one between the apparatus and the cellular wireless network to the non-cellular wireless network. The apparatus further comprises a processor configured to selectively offload at least a subset of the data connections to the non-cellular wireless network based on the first indication. • Patent number: 9167506
Abstract: LIPA PDN Connectivity indicates a PDP Context (in the case of a GERAN or UTRAN femto cell connected to a GPRS core network) or a PDN Connection (in the case of an E-UTRAN femto cell connected to a GPRS core network) that gives access to services located in the local IP network of the femto cell subsystem. SIPTO PDN Connectivity indicates a PDP Context or PDN Connection that allows offload of selected types of IP traffic (e.g. internet traffic) towards a defined IP network close to the UE's point of attachment to the access network. Remote PDN Connectivity indicates a regular PDP Context or PDN Connection established neither according to LIPA PDN Connectivity nor SIPTO PDN Connectivity. Systems, devices and methods are described herein that enable the identification of the type of connectivity available to a UE and enable session continuity for local cellular coverage.

  • Patent number: 9161211
Abstract: A network includes a database configured to store subscriber data associated with a wireless terminal, wherein the subscriber data indicates whether the wireless terminal requires allocation of an IP address during attachment of the wireless terminal to the network. The network module receives, from the wireless terminal, a request to attach to the network. In response to receiving the request, the network module retrieves the subscriber data stored in the database and selectively allocates an IP address to the wireless terminal based on whether the subscriber data stored in the database indicates that the wireless terminal requires allocation of an IP address during attachment of the wireless terminal to the network.

  • Patent number: 9042308
Abstract: A system including (i) a first gateway providing access to a first network and a second network, and (ii) a second gateway providing access to the second network. A network device determines whether a wireless terminal is communicating with the first network via the first gateway and attempting to communicate with the second network via the second gateway. The network device determines whether the first gateway permits the wireless terminal to communicate with the second network. In response to determining that the wireless terminal is communicating with the first network via the first gateway and is attempting to communicate with the second network via the second gateway and that the first gateway permits the wireless terminal to communicate with the second network, the network device permits the wireless terminal to access the second network via the first gateway prior to the wireless terminal establishing a connection with the second gateway.

  • Patent number: 9042884
Abstract: A mobile communication terminal includes a registration module that initiates a registration of the mobile communication terminal with Internet protocol (IP) multimedia subsystems (IMS) within a home network. The registration module initiates registration when the mobile communication terminal is roaming in a visited network. The mobile communication terminal also includes a session module that initiates a session set-up with the IMS to enable use of IMS resources. At least one of the registration module and the session module provide a first IP address to the IMS during at least one of the registration and the session set-up. The mobile communication terminal communicates with a first packet data network (PDN) that is local to the visited network using the first IP address in order to use at least one of the IMS resources.

  • Publication number: 20150092665
Abstract: A method, system and device are provided for managing LIPA and/or SIPTO connection releases when UE moves out of residential/enterprise network coverage in case service continuity is not supported for the LIPA/SIPTO PDN connection(s). To address problems caused by not providing service continuity for LIPA/SIPTO PDN connections, the PDN connection/PDP context created in the HeNB/HNB by the MME/SGSN includes context information related to the UE indicating whether such connection is a LIPA PDN connection PDN connection or not. In addition, each UE may be configured to reconnect or not reconnect to the PDN corresponding to a certain APN or service, depending on how the PDN connection was disconnected by the network.

  • Publication number: 20150079973
Abstract: A technique for protecting location information of a subscriber in a mobile network is disclosed. A User Mobility Server (UMS) receives a first query from a first call state control function (CSCF). The UMS transmits a call setup and a subscriber identity to a servicing-call state control function (S-CSCF). The S-CSCF may have no record of the subscriber identity due to a restart are some other event. The UMS receives a second query from the S-CSCF based in part of the subscriber identity. The UMS transmits a home address of a mobile station to the S-CSCF. The UMS may also transmit a profile download to the S-CSCF.
