  • Publication number: 20140136732
Abstract: A wireless device includes first and second wireless network interfaces, first and second address determination modules, and a mobility control module. The first interface establishes layer two connectivity with a first media access gateway. The first address determination module assigns a first address to the first interface in response to a first address assignment message received from the first media access gateway. The second interface establishes layer two connectivity with a second media access gateway in preparation for a handoff from the first media access gateway to the second media access gateway. The second interface transmits an address request message, indicating a desire for the first address to be assigned to the second interface, to the second media access gateway. The second address determination module assigns a second address to the second interface in response to a second address assignment message received from the second media access gateway.

  • Publication number: 20140136709
Abstract: A network node for providing resource management in a wireless network based on indicated application. The network mode is configured to receive a service request message transmitted by a user equipment, the service request message comprising an application identifier associated with a mobile application executable on the user equipment and a request for network resources to be allocated to the mobile application. The network node is also configured to determine whether the network is capable of handling the service request based at least partly upon the application identifier. In response to the determination, the network node transmits to the user equipment a response message indicating whether the network node accepts the request for network resources to be allocated to the mobile application.

  • Publication number: 20140119353
Abstract: A mobile device may communicate through multiple access point names (APNs) through wireless local area network (WLAN) protocols. The APNs are data routes that may be accessible to a device through other non-WLAN networks (e.g. cellular), but can be accessed with a WLAN device through WLAN protocols. A sub network access protocol (SNAP) header may be modified and used for routing traffic.

  • Patent number: 8681739
Abstract: A method and apparatus for routing packets from a home agent to a user equipment through a first access network and a second access network. The method includes sending a first binding update message from the user equipment over the first access network to create a first binding cache entry at the home agent. The user equipment uses a home address assigned to the user equipment as a source IP address of the first binding update message. The method further includes sending a second binding update message from the user equipment over the second access network to create a second binding cache entry at the home agent. The user equipment receives packets from the home agent through the first access network and the second access network based on the first binding cache entry and the second binding cache entry.

  • Publication number: 20140045490
Abstract: A technique for protecting location information of a subscriber in a mobile network is disclosed. A User Mobility Server (UMS) receives a first query from a first call state control function (CSCF). The UMS transmits a call setup and a subscriber identity to a servicing-call state control function (S-CSCF). The S-CSCF may have no record of the subscriber identity due to a restart are some other event. The UMS receives a second query from the S-CSCF based in part of the subscriber identity. The UMS transmits a home address of a mobile station to the S-CSCF. The UMS may also transmit a profile download to the S-CSCF.

  • Patent number: 8634344
Abstract: A media access gateway includes a wireless network interface, an address assignment module, a proxy mobility agent module, and a profile module. The wireless network interface establishes a link with a wireless terminal. The address assignment module receives an address request message, including a mobility signal, from the wireless terminal. The proxy mobility agent module selectively transmits a proxy binding update to a local mobility anchor, and receives a proxy binding acknowledgement. The address assignment module transmits an address assignment message to the wireless terminal in response to the mobility signal indicating support or preference for proxy mobility. The address assignment message is based on address information in the proxy binding acknowledgement. The profile module retrieves a profile for the wireless terminal from a server. The address assignment module selectively transmits a second address assignment message to the wireless terminal based on the address information in the profile.

  • Patent number: 8634394
Abstract: An access router includes a wireless network interface, an address assignment module, and an availability module. The wireless network interface establishes a wireless link with a wireless terminal. The address assignment module determines a list of packet data networks for use by the wireless terminal. The availability module determines a mobile internet protocol availability for each packet data network in the list of packet data networks and generates an availability signal based on each mobile internet protocol availability. The address assignment module transmits an address assignment message that includes the availability signal to the wireless terminal.

  • Patent number: 8599790
Abstract: A media access gateway includes a wireless network interface, a tunneling module, a proxy mobility agent module, and an address assignment module. The wireless network interface establishes a link with a wireless terminal. The tunneling module establishes tunnels with first and second local mobility anchors, associated with first and second packet data networks, respectively. The proxy mobility agent module stores a mapping of assigned addresses to local mobility anchor identifiers. The proxy mobility agent selects a first or second local mobility anchor in response to the mapping and a source address of the wireless terminal, and the tunneling module tunnels the packet to the selected local mobility anchor. The address assignment module transmits an address assignment message, which includes the first assigned address and a prefix usage indicator, to the wireless terminal. The first assigned address includes a network-based or client-based mobility address according to the prefix usage indicator.

  • Publication number: 20130308527
Abstract: A method, system and device are provided for managing LIPA and/or SIPTO connection releases when UE moves out of residential/enterprise network coverage in case service continuity is not supported for the LIPA/SIPTO PDN connection(s). To address problems caused by not providing service continuity for LIPA/SIPTO PDN connections, the PDN connection/PDP context created in the HeNB/HNB by the MME/SGSN includes context information related to the UE indicating whether such connection is a LIPA PDN connection PDN connection or not. In addition, each UE may be configured to reconnect or not reconnect to the PDN corresponding to a certain APN or service, depending on how the PDN connection was disconnected by the network.
