  • Publication number: 20150063301
Abstract: Systems and methods for operator controlled APN routing mapping are described herein. In one embodiment, a method for routing policy evaluation in a wireless communication system comprises receiving, from a home network, a message comprising a home network policy associated with network node routing, and receiving, from a visited network, another message comprising a visited network policy associated with network node routing. The method also comprises evaluating the home network policy to determine whether to route data traffic via one of a wireless node offload or a designated access point name (APN), evaluating the home network policy to determine whether the home network policy has priority over the visited network policy, and ignoring a rule of the visited network policy associated with routing the data traffic in response to a determination that the home network policy has priority.

  • Patent number: 8971255
Abstract: A wireless device includes first and second wireless network interfaces, first and second address determination modules, and a mobility control module. The first interface establishes layer two connectivity with a first media access gateway. The first address determination module assigns a first address to the first interface in response to a first address assignment message received from the first media access gateway. The second interface establishes layer two connectivity with a second media access gateway in preparation for a handoff from the first media access gateway to the second media access gateway. The second interface transmits an address request message, indicating a desire for the first address to be assigned to the second interface, to the second media access gateway. The second address determination module assigns a second address to the second interface in response to a second address assignment message received from the second media access gateway.

  • Patent number: 8953609
Abstract: A wireless client terminal includes an application module, a service mapping module, and an address determination module. The application module determines first and second services requested by applications. The service mapping module stores a table that maps services to access point names. Each access point name identifies a respective packet data network. The address determination module transmits an address request message, including access point names corresponding to the services, to a media access gateway and receives an address response message. The address determination module determines first and second addresses based on address information in the address response message. The application module transmits a first packet to the media access gateway. The source address of the first packet is set to the first address when the first packet is related to the first service and to the second address when the first packet is related to the second service.

  • Patent number: 8937924
Abstract: A method, system and device are provided for managing LIPA and/or SIPTO connection releases when UE moves out of residential/enterprise network coverage in case service continuity is not supported for the LIPA/SIPTO PDN connection(s). To address problems caused by not providing service continuity for LIPA/SIPTO PDN connections, the PDN connection/PDP context created in the HeNB/HNB by the MME/SGSN includes context information related to the UE indicating whether such connection is a LIPA PDN connection PDN connection or not. In addition, each UE may be configured to reconnect or not reconnect to the PDN corresponding to a certain APN or service, depending on how the PDN connection was disconnected by the network.

  • Patent number: 8929265
Abstract: A first network configured to connect a terminal to a home network during a time that the terminal is roaming within the first network. The first network includes a plurality of attachment points, wherein a first attachment point is configured to receive an attach request from the terminal, and wherein the attach request includes a request from the terminal for an IP address from an anchoring point within the home network. The first network further includes an Authentication/Authorization/Accounting server proxy configured to determine whether the terminal is authorized to attach to the first attachment point, wherein in response to the terminal being authorized to attach to the first attachment point, i) a first tunnel is created between the first attachment point and a second attachment point, and ii) a second tunnel is created between the second attachment point and the anchoring point within the home network.

  • Publication number: 20150003228
Abstract: An example method to handle services during device backoff involves maintaining a device backed off from a packet-switched domain. When the device is backed off from the packet-switched domain, a request is sent to attach the device to an access network in a circuit-switched domain. A packet-switched backoff status of the device is sent with the request. The packet-switched backoff status indicates that the device is backed off from the packet-switched domain.

  • Patent number: 8923846
Abstract: A technique for protecting location information of a subscriber in a mobile network is disclosed. A User Mobility Server (UMS) receives a first query from a first call state control function (CSCF). The UMS transmits a call setup and a subscriber identity to a servicing-call state control function (S-CSCF). The S-CSCF may have no record of the subscriber identity due to a restart are some other event. The UMS receives a second query from the S-CSCF based in part of the subscriber identity. The UMS transmits a home address of a mobile station to the S-CSCF. The UMS may also transmit a profile download to the S-CSCF.

  • Publication number: 20140334318
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided for determining available uplink bandwidth as an achievable throughput for a link. An available link capacity of a link with a cell for a user equipment is estimated based on a communication quality measured in the cell. An available fraction of cell resources for the user equipment over the link is also estimated based at least in part on received assistance information. An available bandwidth of the cell is then estimated as an achievable throughput for the user equipment over the link as a function of the estimated available link capacity and the estimated available fraction of cell resources. Moreover, a network procedure can be performed based at least in part on comparing the achievable throughput to one or more thresholds.

  • Publication number: 20140331296
Abstract: A systems and method for gateway discovery and Layer-2 mobility is operable by an access terminal that connects to an access point. The access terminal determines security credentials and addressing and routing configurations used previously. The access terminal determines whether the security credentials may be reused by the access terminal to perform authentication with an access network and also determines whether the addressing and routing configurations may be reused by the access terminal. In a related system and method, a network entity receives an inquiry from an access terminal regarding whether a prior Trusted Wireless Access Gateway (TWAG) is reusable by the access terminal as a current TWAG. The network entity determines whether the prior TWAG is reusable and may send response to the access terminal indicating whether the prior TWAG is reusable.

  • Publication number: 20140287746
Abstract: In one or more mobile stations of a wireless communication network, a method for network node selection in a wireless communication system by a mobile entity may include receiving, from a home network, a message comprising a policy associated with network node selection, determining whether the home network policy has precedence over a policy of a visited network based on the message, and selecting a network node based on the policy of the home network, in response to determining the home network policy has precedence over the visited network policy. The policy may include at least one of mobility or routing policies. The message may include an indication of precedence between the home network and one or more visited networks. • Publication number: 20140269515
Abstract: A system including (i) a first gateway providing access to a first network and a second network, and (ii) a second gateway providing access to the second network. A network device determines whether a wireless terminal is communicating with the first network via the first gateway and attempting to communicate with the second network via the second gateway. The network device determines whether the first gateway permits the wireless terminal to communicate with the second network. In response to determining that the wireless terminal is communicating with the first network via the first gateway and is attempting to communicate with the second network via the second gateway and that the first gateway permits the wireless terminal to communicate with the second network, the network device permits the wireless terminal to access the second network via the first gateway prior to the wireless terminal establishing a connection with the second gateway.
