Abstract: A channel switching method and system for IPTV for reducing channel switching delay and improving bandwidth utilization efficiency is provided. The channel switching method includes pre-joining candidate channels while playing broadcast data on a main channel, the candidate channels being stored in a candidate channel table; releasing the pre-joined candidate channels, when a channel holding time of the main channel is greater than a predetermined channel holding time level; and re-joining the released candidate channels before a completion of playing the broadcast data on the main channel.

Abstract: A terminal apparatus is provided for receiving a broadcast service from a broadcasting system. A receiver receives a notification message from the broadcasting system. A message parser parses the notification message received by the receiver according to a certain format. A controller determines whether the received notification message is a notification message to be used by a user or a notification message to be used by the terminal based on content of the notification message parsed by the message parser, and performs an operation according to the determination result.

Abstract: A mobile broadcast system having a terminal is disclosed. The terminal transmits a message including a type-based identifier (ID) to a BCAST Subscription Management (BSM) in a corresponding network during network access. The BSM determines a type of an ID of the received message and then performs an authentication procedure according to the type of the ID.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for allocating channel bandwidths in a wireless IPTV system is provided. The method includes measuring, if an additional service offering request is received in a saturation channel state, remaining execution times until a service of each terminal that is currently receiving a service is terminated, and setting a minimum of the measured remaining execution times to a unit time; calculating a securable channel bandwidth per the unit time with respect to each terminal that is currently receiving a service; and allocating, if the summation of the securable channel bandwidths per the unit time is equal to or greater than a channel bandwidth required to provide the additional service, the requested channel bandwidth in order to provide the additional service.

Abstract: A method for changing a subscription status of a service in a mobile communication system, and a system thereof. A method is provided for changing a subscription status of a service by a terminal in a mobile communication system. The method includes transmitting a pause request message, in which a pause period of the subscription status is included, to a network entity; receiving, from the network entity, a pause response message including therein a possible pause period for the pause period included in the pause request message, and a trigger for changing validity for a Long-term Key stored in the terminal; and changing validity for the Long-term Key using the trigger for the possible pause period included in the pause response message.

Abstract: A method for mapping first coded TFCI symbols and second coded TFCI symbols to a radio frame in a transmission apparatus of a mobile communication system for encoding k first TFCI bits and (10?k) second TFCI bits, a sum of the first coded TFCI symbols and the second coded TFCI symbols being 32. The method comprises multiplexing the coded symbols such that the first coded TFCI symbols and the second coded TFCI symbols are uniformly distributed according to a transmission mode and a data rate of the radio frame, and outputting 32 coded symbols; and mapping the 32 multiplexed coded symbols to the radio frame to satisfy the number of the coded symbols that can be mapped to one radio frame, determined according to the transmission mode and the data rate of the radio frame.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for delivering a Control User Interface (CUI) using an Electronic Program Guide (EPG) is provided for a broadcast system. A transmission apparatus for a digital broadcast system includes a provider that provides one or more of services and content. The apparatus also includes an information generator that generates EPG information including CUI information. The apparatus further includes a transmitter that transmits the EPG information and the one or more of the services and content. The CUI information is provided per service and per content.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for sharing content in an Internet broadcasting system that supports broadcasting services using an Internet protocol. The method includes creating, by a bookmark creator, a bookmark for contents, transmitting, by the bookmark creator, the bookmark to a service provider, receiving the bookmark by the service provider, notifying, by the service provider, that the bookmark is updated to a content-sharing party, receiving, by the service provider, a transmission request for the bookmark from the content-sharing party, sending, by the service provider, the bookmark to the content-sharing party, and accessing, by the content-sharing party, the contents by executing the bookmark.

Abstract: A service provision method in an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network is provided. A service request message is transmitted from a first user terminal to a second user terminal for requesting a service. The service request message includes global identifiers (IDs) allocated to the first user terminal and the second user terminal. A service response message is transmitted from the second user terminal to the first user terminal. A service session is established between the first user terminal and the second user terminal, when the service response message is received by the first user terminal.

Abstract: A service guide provision method and system for a digital broadcast service is provided for distributing a rich media-enabled service guide. A rich media-enabled service guide provisioning method for a digital broadcast service includes creating a Rich Media Solution (RMS) template for a service guide with reference to service guide fragments; creating a service guide delivery descriptor containing RMS information on the RMS template and service guide fragment information on the service guide fragments; and broadcasting the service guide fragments, the RMS template, and the service guide delivery descriptor.

Abstract: A method of providing DRM content, including transmitting, by a content issuer, when a request for a specific main content of a communication terminal is input, a DRM content including the main content and a preset sub-content corresponding to the main content to the communication terminal; transmitting, by a rights issuer, a rights object having constraint condition information for securing reproduction of the sub-content to the communication terminal; and reproducing, by the communication terminal, when the DRM content and the rights object are received, the sub-content by analyzing the rights object and reproducing, when reproduction of the sub-content is complete, the main content. Reproduction of a sub-content in a communication terminal can be secured through constraint condition information of a rights object, and waste of resources required for providing a sub-content can be suppressed.

A service providing server inserts a content control access criteria descriptor into a transport stream and transmits content and the content control access criteria descriptor to the receiver through the transport stream. The receiver receives the transport stream and processes the content according to the content control access criteria descriptor, which can contain lock control information and coupon provision information. The lock control information indicates whether a control function of the receiver is locked or unlocked for specific content. The coupon provision information indicates whether a coupon available for the purchase of pay content is granted depending on execution of specific content.

Abstract: An Internet Protocol (IP) TeleVision (IPTV) service provision method and system is provided for providing both fixed and mobile device users with IPTV services. The IPTV service provision method of the present invention includes establishing, when a Mobile-IPTV terminal function (M-ITF) including a first Open IPTV Terminal Function (OITF) having a plurality of functional entities and an embedded gateway having a plurality gateway functions detects a gateway function of an IPTV Terminal Function (ITF) including a second OITF having a plurality of functional entities and a plurality of gateways, a link with the gateway function of the ITF; disabling the embedded gateway; requesting a service provider network for an IPTV service via the gateway function of the ITF; and establishing a service link with the service provider network to received the IPTV service.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing preferred contents to a user in an Internet broadcasting system that provides a broadcast service using an Internet data transport protocol. A user terminal sends a request for a broadcast service to a service provider. The user terminal receives an authentication key from the service provider, and delivers the authentication key to a third display terminal in which a user of the user terminal is not registered. The third display terminal delivers the authentication key and connection information of the third display terminal to the service provider. The service provider authenticates the third display terminal. The user terminal transmits information selected by the user to the service provider, which transmits broadcast service data related to the selected information to the third display terminal for being displayed.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing content in a broadcast system is provided. Upon receipt of a request for synchronization from a mobile terminal, a set-top box creates a recommended content list based on user information received from the mobile terminal and delivers the recommended content list to the mobile terminal. The set-top box receives from the mobile terminal a content list, selected from the recommended content list and included in a Personal Information Management System (PIMS) updated using the recommended content list. The set-top box determines whether a user of the mobile terminal intends to view content from the received content list at a start time of the content. Upon receipt of view acceptance information from the mobile terminal, the set-top box sends a request for the content to a service provider at the start time, receives the requested content from the service provider, and provides the received content to the mobile terminal.
