    Abstract: In an IPS mode liquid crystal display device, a counter electrode is formed flat on a first insulating film. A second insulating film is formed in the peripheral portion of the counter electrode. A third insulating film is formed so as to cover the counter electrode and the second insulating film. A pixel electrode is formed on the third insulating film. The second and third insulating films are present between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode in the periphery of the pixel. The third insulating film is present between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode in the portion other than the peripheral portion of the pixel. An electric field between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode is smaller in the periphery of the pixel than in the vicinity of the center of the pixel, to prevent the occurrence of a domain in the periphery of the pixel.

    Abstract: An air intake route leads air drawn in from outside into a diesel engine. The air intake route is provided with an air intake manifold and an EGR device is provided which supplies some of the exhaust to the air intake route. An introduction path for introducing exhaust supplied from the EGR device is provided inside of the air intake manifold, and an exhaust port of the introduction path is arranged downstream from and near the intake entrance in the air intake manifold. By this means, exhaust gas performance can be improved without increasing the engine size.

    Abstract: A provided is a liquid crystal display device for reducing power consumption by increasing efficiency of a backlight. The liquid crystal display includes, on a TFT substrate, a semiconductor layer and a gate electrode are laminated via a gate insulating film. A TFT is formed by the semiconductor layer and the gate electrode. A base film is formed of an insulating film and at a lower layer of the semiconductor layer. As seen in plan view, a reflection film is formed on a lower side of the base film at an area corresponding to the TFT. The reflection film is independently formed for each of the TFTs. Each of the reflection films is electrically floating. The reflection film has a reflectance of 70% or more at a lower side thereof. The use efficiency of the light from a backlight can be increased because of the existence of the reflection film.

    Abstract: There is provided a method for processing an inner wall surface of a micro vacancy, capable of reliably etching or cleaning even if the hole provided to the substrate to be processed is narrow and deep. An aspect ratio of the micro vacancy being at least 5, or the aspect ratio being less than 5 and a ratio of a micro vacancy volume to a surface area of the opening being at least 3. The micro vacancy is exposed to an atmosphere for forming a silicon oxide film so as to form a silicon oxide film on the inner wall surface of the micro vacancy.     Abstract: In an IPS mode liquid crystal display device, an interlayer insulating film is formed on a common electrode formed in a planar shape, and a pixel electrode is formed on the interlayer insulating film. The distance between the TFT substrate and the counter substrate is determined by a columnar spacer. The pixel electrode includes one comb-shaped electrode and a contact part. The tip of the comb-shaped electrode overlaps the columnar spacer as seen in a plan view. The columnar spacer is present in the area in which an electric field that allows the liquid crystal molecules to rotate backward occurs when a voltage is applied to the pixel electrode, so that the reverse rotation of the liquid crystal molecules does not occur, and it is possible to prevent the domain from occurring.

    Abstract: A pixel electrode is configured of one comb tooth portion and a contact portion whose width is widened from the end portion of the comb tooth portion in a first direction that is the extending direction of a scanning line. The width of the contact portion is not expanded in a direction opposite to the first direction, and the production of a domain is prevented. A picture signal line is bent in the direction in which the width of the contact portion of the pixel electrode is widened, so that the comb tooth portion of the pixel electrode can be disposed in the center between the picture signal lines, and the width of the contact portion can be formed in a sufficient width in the direction in which the picture signal line is bent. Thus, the contact margin of the pixel electrode can be provided.

    Abstract: It is possible to suppress carrier light with a simple configuration when modulating the carrier light to generate optical sideband components. An optical carrier-suppressed signal generator includes first splitting means used to split input carrier light into two light beams, an optical modulator which modulates one split carrier light beam and outputs light including optical sideband components, a phase modulator which phase-modulates another split carrier light beam, and second or third splitting means used to split the output light of the optical modulator into two light beams. The output light split by the second or third splitting means and the output light of the phase modulator are multiplexed to obtain the amplitude of the signal waveform of optical power, and the optical modulator is controlled such that the obtained value is minimized.
